Wednesday after the exams. A person gave me a poster from the broadway cast and said that I should sign up for a part in the TV show that's going to be airing next year. I looked at it and it said, "Victorious." I looked at the back and the address was right down the street. I smiled and got into my car.
I got in and greeted the judges after two hours of waiting.
I got my self ready and said, "This is my bibble. My bibble." I slowly trailed off and they applauded. "Can you do something else? That was good, but really short. How about singing?"
I nodded and sang, "Love the way you Lie (Part II)"
They all looked at me in astonishment and said, "That was amazing." I smiled and said, "I can do--" "No, we'll call you." I smiled and walked away.
I was in my car and thankfully got through exams. When I got home, I looked at my neighbor, Kate, and she was on her porch. She had her purse on her lap and she was on her phone, but looked exhausted as ever.
I looked over at my house and everything was calm. Another car pulled up the drive way and I looked over to see my mom and dad. I ran over to them and then Jasper came out of the car. I haven't seen him in forever. I pushed past my parents and forgot all the troubles we had in the past.
I could tell that me parents were a little sad so I turned and gave them hugs too.
I smiled at them and said, "We should--" "Young lady, we just came home from a flight and you just finished exams. I think we're all tired." "You can't all be tired my broadway show is tonight."
My mom looked at me in surprise and said, "You do broadway?" Jasper laughed and said, "I wanna see this."
I was backstage and the broadway was about to start. I was really scared. I've never been in a broadway.
I looked into the mirror and the stage manager said that I should be out now. I nodded and got up. It was show time.
I sang my heart out and didn't miss a single line. I looked over and me and Kate were acting our hearts out to not kill each other under the spot light. I smiled gracefully and we were prancing around the stage being the best of friends.
The scene changed and I looked around and saw that Eric was there standing with Harry, and he sang, "I thought that you were the one." I looked back at him and went over and sang, "But I guess you were wrong. I did have feelings for you, but my heart was taken away by him." "My friend? Oh, how I could've seen this coming." "The love I have for him is endless." "The love?" "Yes, I am in love!"
I felt so awkward singing that. I was going to kill Kate later for writing that cliché line. Now I knew why she wanted the part so bad. I knew during practice, but now I see the type of attention that's going to be brought, but I'm graduating next week. So, it won't matter.
I walked out of the backstage after the show was over. A person came up to me and said, "I'm Mrs. Brad from Juilliard, and I see that you are one of the Seniors. I'm the professor for the broadway major. Do you maybe want to change your major?" "No, I like it the way it is."
She shrugged it off and I tapped her on the shoulder and said, "I can't change it because I got accepted into something big that I'm majoring in, and I'd like to tell my parents first."
I went over to my parents and tapped them on the shoulder. The spun me around and said, "Ow, shouldn't have done that. You know you've grown." I looked at them and shook my head saying, "I'm still five feet." "Well then, you need to grow young lady."
I smiled and said, "I have some news to tell you. I've got a part in a TV show."
My brother started to jumped up and down yelling congratulations all over the place and I looked at my parents and they both had stern looks and they said, "You know how I feel about show business." "Mom, I tried out and they accepted me! You saw how I was up on the stage tonight. Just think of me on live TV."
She looked at my and said, "I'll think about it. Only because you chose Princeton." I smiled and said, "Please. If anything goes wrong I'll step out of it." "I'll still have to think about it."
I grunted and walked away. My dad put his arm around me, but I shook it off. "That's not a way to treat your father." "That's not a way to treat your daughter." "What did I do?" "Not accept me on getting a part in a TV show." "I bet that show won't even get that many views. You're worth more than that."
I glared at him and said, "You'll never know." He sighed and my mom yelled at him saying, "Don't fall for that guilt card that she's playing on you." He glared at me and said, "It already worked." He winked and looked back up.
I smiled and said, "One parent down, one more to go." "What was that sweetie?" "Nothing."
I went over to my brother and said, "Jasper, you want to go drink so coffee or something?" "This late at night? Pass." "Come on. I need to tell you something." He looked at me and said, "It won't get me in trouble will it?" "No, just some bad news and I'd like to tell it in a coffee shop." "Like Starbucks?" "Yeah."
He knew me so well. I smiled at him and he guided me toward my car. He rode with my parents here so of course I drove him in my car, while my parents drove back home.
When we got there and our orders were finally done. We sat down and I looked at Jasper and said, "I know you don't really want to hear this from me, but more like Eric or someone like that, but Jack's cousin died in a car reck."
Jasper looked up and said, "That's impossible. I just talked to him a few days ago." "A few days ago is when he died."
He wasn't smiling anymore. I couldn't look at him so I just looked down at my coffee and said, "I'm sorry."
I looked up, but he wasn't looking at me. I took a sip out of my coffee and waited for this awkward moment to end. I looked to the side and the waiter was packing up. The shop was closing. "Jasper, we need to go. The shop's closing." "Yeah. How's Jake?" "Mom and dad didn't tell you?"
He looked at me worried and shook his head. I said, painfully, "He died a month ago."
He took a shaky breath in and said, "I'm really sorry Spence." I looked down and said, "You wanna just get a bottle of beer and share it to wash it all out?" "I'm not like that." "Just think you were." "I look like that kind of person?" "Yeah."
He smirked and then the smirk disappeared. "Come on Spence. Mom dad are probably waiting for us." "Yeah."
Graduation day. I've been looking forward to this all of my high school life. I looked to my left and Harry was smiling his ass off. I giggled and said, "So, after this you're leaving for the X Factor huh?" "Yeah. My planes literally thirty minutes after the reception."
I looked at him and smiled. "Babe, don't worry. Nothing will change between us."
I was worried about that. Josie came to my side and held my hand saying, "Glad this day is finally here." "Yeah." I looked at her, and she was smiling. I smiled at her and when she looked at me she said, "I'm only smiling for this day."
I looked away and I wanted to cry because of the reason why she wasn't smiling for the real thing. Her and Jake were suppose to be walking down the isle because they were voted as the cutest couple runner up, but now she's going to be walking down alone.
I looked at her and said, "Walk down with us during the reception." She looked at me and said, "I'm not a lesbian." "I'm not saying that." She looked at me and then nodded and smiled saying, "It's fine. I can handle it." I squeezed her hand tighter and looked forward.
We were all standing outside the doors of the auditorium. A dean came up to us and lead us over toward the back stage. We were already wearing our gowns and hats.
I looked over at Harry while we were walking and he just looked straight ahead. I was still holding Josie's hand and walked down the hallway to meet the rest of the school. Everyone was smiling and jumping up with joy. While some were crying and needing to fix their makeup because it was ruined.
The boys were in the corner trying to be tough and others were laughing their heads off because they were too stupid to even have feelings.
They started to call our names to walk across the stage and my heart rate started to pump faster. I looked over at Harry as they started to get closer to my last name. "Eleanor Calder. She will be attending Baylor University for Law." She walked past me and handed me a tube of mascara. She smiled back at me and I did a wave.
"Spencer Calder. She will be attending Princeton University." I handed the tube to Harry and he put it in his pocket.
I walked onto the stage and smiled while the crowd roared. I got my certificate and shook with the other hand. "Congratulations Spence." I looked into the Principle's eyes and nodded.
I walked down and sat in the seat reserved for me. I waited for everyone to be seated. The girl after me almost tripped because of her gown, but she walked it off pretty well. I knew right then that she wasn't going to be a model.
When they were finally done they were ready to say the valedictorian and the salutadictorian. I was nervous because for the past few weeks I haven't really been doing my best in school, but hopefully past four years in high school made up for that.
I looked up and the principle said, "And now a few words from our salutadictorian. Eric Standler."
My heart calmed and then raced again recognizing that Eric has done better then me for the pst few weeks of school. I gulped and looked around. No one was around me that I wanted to talk to about this.
I sat back and listened to Eric's speech.
"All throughout the years, I have been studying and learning other things than just studying." The crowd laughed and he smiled and looked down at his paper and cleared his throat and said, "I have lost people on the way to get here today." He stared into the crowd and I knew he was looking at Josie.
"But it was all worth it for teaching me things that I didn't know before." His voice cracked. "I don't know what to say, but that's just a cliché phrase that all people say. I learned that being cliché is not always the answer. You must change to become who you really want to be."
He cleared his throat and looked up and said, "My friends and teachers taught me that. Mostly in the time frame of one year." He paused and said, "Senior year."
I heard agreements in the crowd and I smiled. "I learned that you need to lift yourself up in order to become a better person when someone pulls you down. There are thing in my life that I never thought I would do that happened in senior year, but they happened. I actually got a girlfriend."
People chuckled and he continued and said, "Now ex, but we are still good friends, but I have to say that she taught me more then anyone will ever teach me. She taught me that life is black and white, but sometimes you need the grey. This can be placed in many categories, but the main one that I focus on is when you see the good and the bad, but there will always be those hazy moments in life that you don't know what to do with and you just need to step back and accept that it just happened and move on."
He looked down and took a deep breath and said, "Now, I'm moving on from high school to a college. Princeton to be exact. My friends and I happily got into that school, and we all are moving on together into the independent decisions that we will be making, and moving on to become the people that we are meant to become. Thank you."
He nodded and walked off the stage. Everyone cheered and the principle walked up and said, "That's going to be hard to beat as a speech." The crowd laughed and the principle cleared his throat and he said, "Now the valedictorian. We didn't tell this person that they were because there was a tie, but this person broke it because of the role that they played in the broadway."
I stiffened up and he said, "Spencer Calder."
Everyone cheered as I went up to the podium. They didn't tell me that I was the valedictorian like they were suppose to because there was a close tie, but they saw that I did a broadway so I guess that's what triggered it.
"Hi, I didn't write up a speech because they didn't inform me about this. So, this is something that's just me ad-libbing." I looked around, but I couldn't find anyone. Great.
"I want to thank the faculty for choosing me. This is a great honor to be given this title." I gave out a shaky sigh and giggled everyone started to laugh. I looked up and said, "I was planning to just congratulate my friend Eric on getting salutadictorian, but I guess it's going to be more of him congratulating me on my title."
I chuckled and everyone laughed. "Umm, everyone probably knows me as the nerd of the school because of this, but I want to tell that I had a social life too and that I learned a lot from just studying all of my life. I learned things that I wish I would've learned earlier in my life, and mostly those things wouldn't happen to me."
I took a shaky breath and said, "I've lost people that were dear to me, but even more dear to my best friend. He was a like a brother to me and he always told me to just not be afraid. I didn't listen to him cause it's a natural instinct for me to be afraid like right now."
There were scattered chuckles in the crowd. I looked up and said, "But that taught me to go the distance and achieve things that I only knew deep inside I could do. Without him, I wouldn't be this brave to even talk without running off stage and having a spaz attack."
I smiled and continued, "I really just want everyone to know to step out of your comfort zone because that's the only way you can achieve things. Thank you."
They all applauded me while I went and sat down. As I walked down they started to stand up, but I knew that was just a valedictorian specialty. My sister hugged me when I came back. I knew that I made the right choice for the speech.
After the reception, me and Harry went to the airport and he changed into some comfortable clothes to ride the plane.
We said our last good byes and he said, "Just watch me on the TV and everything will be fine." I smiled and said, "I love you." "I love you more."
He kissed me one last time and then the rest of his friends showed up. I hugged Louis and then just waved the rest of them off. Louis ran back and gave me a piece of paper and said, "Give this to Eleanor. You speech helped me choose the right thing."
I smiled at him and said, "I can still make Harry beat you up if you hurt my sister through this note." He smiled and said, "Sure."
He ran off into the baggage checking area and then they all walked into the waiting room with each other. I couldn't go, but then their plane got called and Harry waved his last goodbye to me.
