Nora and Luke are the most popular people in school. You'd think they'd get along, right? Nope. Nora gets a crush on Luke but freaks out because he's a player and of course she's supposed to hate his guts. 2. Be-friending a nerd

Nora's POV

My group and I were walking onto the oval. We sat under a tree that we claimed years ago, and people knew was ours. "What do you guys think of my new nails?" Bree asked showing off her long black sparkly fake nails. "Haha. Finally you got your nails done like the rest of us." Paisley said grabbing Bree's wrist and looking at her nails. "Yeah, I really couldn't be bothered after my last ones fell of." Bree said. Each of us all had our nails done to match our personalities. I had baby blue nails with light green vines over top and baby pink flowers that grew off the vines. Violet had obviously black nails with dark blue and purple violets painted on top. Ari had neon pink nails with white polka dots, and Paisley had suns, moons and stars painted on hers. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Luke's voice behind me. I turned around to see Luke and his group all looking down at a person I couldn't see. I got up. "I'll be right back." I said to my friends. I walked over to the tree Luke was standing by. As I got closer I could see them looking down at a girl who had strawberry blonde hair. She had a book in her hand. "Fuck off Hemmings!" The girl yelled.

"Woah! Watch out guys! This girl knows how to swear!" Luke joked.

"Get away from me!" She shouted.

"Or what?!" Calum said.

"You wanna fight?!" Luke yelled pulling out his fists in front of him. The girl got up and said, "I'm leaving!" Luke punched her in the arm. She gently placed her hand over where she was punched. "What? Can't take a punch?" Luke spat slamming her against a tree pinning her down. "Back off Hemmings!!!" I snapped. Luke turned around. He let go of the girl and walked towards me. "Well! Nora!" I saw Ashton, Michael, and Calum all whispering to each other. Luke stepped really close to me. "Why are you all up in my grill?" I asked.

"I'd shut my mouth if I were you. Unless you want me to give you what I gave her." He hissed pointing to the girl he was harassing before. "I don't think so!" I hear behind me. I turn around to see my girls glaring at Luke. Luke slowly backed away and left dragging his friends with him. The girl that was getting bullied ran up to me. "Thanks for sticking up for me so much!" She smiled revealing her braces.

"No problem." I replied. "What's your name?" I asked.

"My name is Maddi!" She said with wide eyes looking up at me.

"What are you reading?" I questioned looking down at her book. "Oh..." She lifted up the book showing me the cover. "Just Harry Potter. I'm reading the whole series again for the 3rd time." She answered.

"The THIRD time?" Paisley said in disbelief.

"Yeah. The last time I read it, I was 9 so I can't really remember what happened." She giggled.

"When was the first time you read it?" Paisley asked.

"When I was 6." She responded smiling. We all looked at each other with our eyebrows raised. "Hey, Maddi, you seem like a nice girl. Wanna come to our sleepover next Saturday?" Bree offered.

"A sleepover? Sure! I've never been to one!" She replied.

"NEVER?!" We all gasped at the same time. Maddi shrugged. "Shut up!" Ari said giving Maddi a playful shove. "None of my friends were into sleepovers, so I never had one." Maddi admitted.

"Ok, well you're gonna have the best time ever." Bree addressed.

I rummaged through my locker trying to find my lipgloss. "Looks like Nora hasn't got her minions with her this time!" I heard Luke say behind me.

"Minions?" I said turning around.

"Yeah, you know, those girls you call your "friends"." He chuckled. I raised my eyebrows at him. "So how's you and your ugly face doing? Do you still cry yourself to sleep?" He teased. I ignored him. A blonde girl walked past and he slapped her butt. "That's your ex..." I stated.

"Oh, she is?" He said with a blank look on his face.

"Yes!" I replied shoving him causing him to stumble back onto a short brunette girl. "Oh hey." He flirted grabbing her by the waist. He leaned in and started to kiss her. I rolled my eyes and carried on looking through my locker. "Hey Nora, why don't you join?" I heard Luke say after a couple of seconds of silence. "Why?" I asked turning around again.

"Cuz you're hot." He responded.

"So you call me ugly, then you pick a fight with me, then you randomly start making out with a girl, and then you call me HOT?"

"Yep, pretty much." He laughed.

"Cuz logic." I hissed, glaring at him. The bell rang, which meant I had gym. I let out a sigh and headed off. When I entered the gym, my hopes lifted. I saw Maddi sitting alone behind everyone. I ran over to her and sat next to her causing her to smile. "I've never noticed you in gym class before!" I began.

"Yeah... I'm not a very noticeable person." She replied.

"Well you must be if Luke had noticed you enough to start picking on you!" We both laughed.

"Right class! Today we'll be playing volleyball! I'd like you to find a partner in a second that you'll be playing with!" The gym teacher cheered as he entered. Maddi and I straight away knew that we were going to pair up. The gym teacher demonstrated a couple of ways to hit the ball back and how to serve. "Ok everyone! In your pair, I'd like you to find another pair to go up against!" The gym teacher instructed. I felt someone tap on my back. Of course, it's Luke and Ashton. "Let's do this." Luke declared.

"You're on!" I responded. Maddi gave me an unsure look. I tied my hair up in a high ponytail. Ashton grabbed a volleyball and we headed to one if the many courts in the gym. "Dibs serving!" Luke called out snatching the ball from Ashton. Luke threw up the ball and hit it. The ball went towards Maddi. She stood there and did nothing. I forcefully shoved her out of the way and hit it back over the net. Looks like I'll be playing this game alone. Maddi took a step back. I now had full responsibility for both sides of the court. Maddi was obviously not a sporty girl, and neither was I, but I was determined to put Luke in his place. After a while I actually broke a sweat. I barely ever break a sweat unless I'm going on a jog with my girls. I know that sounds really girly, but I just hate the feeling of sweat on my skin. Besides, I am really girly. Luke and Ashton started to get more tricky to beat. They were upping their game obviously, because they realised that I wasn't as prissy as I looked. As the ball kept on going back and forth, I got bored. I stepped in a bit closer to the net. I was in the perfect position. This time, when I hit the ball I went and spiked it. It went straight down onto the floor, scoring me a point. Luke and Ashton glared at me. "Is spiking even allowed?" Luke protested.

"Yes it is!" I said poking out my tongue.

"Ok class! Everybody come in! We're done for the day!" The gym teacher announced.
