~~Hurt. That was the only word that came to Bella's mind, she couldn't remember a time where she and Scott weren't speaking, because that's how little they fought. He did the one thing that he swore he would never do...he made her cry. She couldn't help thinking about what he had said to her, it had played on her mind that entire night, she had barely slept at all, not that it made much difference, she barely slept most nights anymore. Bella wondered if her sister was to really be here with her; would she really be disappointed in her? Just thinking about that tore a slice out of her already damaged heart.
Bella heard the house phone ring from downstairs, but ignored it knowing full well that the person calling was probably none other then Scott. He had called several times last night, probably realizing that he wasn't getting anywhere with her mobile. She had ignored him until her mum had come home and answered it, she immediately told her mother that she didn't want to speak to him which sparked a lot of curious questions. Thankfully her mum was too tired from her long day to bug her about it that much which she was grateful for, where would she even begin?
The dull sun was beginning to dimly brighten her room that morning, but not even wanting to think about school, Bella decided to stay home. Yes her mum would probably be livid, but there was no way she was up to facing anyone today, especially Scott. It might have been a cowardly thing to do, but Bella was done caring anymore.
That afternoon Bella was laying on her bed while reading a book when she heard the doorbell ring. She knew by not going to school Scott would be worried about her, but he knew full well that when she was pissed and was asked to be left alone that it was best to listen.
She waited a few more seconds before hearing the doorbell ring again. She groaned in annoyance as she made her way downstairs, she couldn't believe that he had showed up. She was in two minds to ignore him, but she didn't have it in her to be that mean. Bella swung the door open ready to pounce but was surprised when she came face to face with the one person that was to blame for all of this.
"Dean! What are you doing here?" she shrieked.
"You left this in my car," he said, handing over her English book.
"Oh, thanks," calming down as she took the book from him. "I didn't even realize."
"You ok?" he asked with genuine concern. "You weren't in school today."
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just wasn't feeling too good this morning," she lied. He nodded his head in a way that told her he didn't believe her for a second.
"So aren't you going to invite me in?" he asked innocently.
"I don't think that's such a good idea." In fact it was a very bad idea.
"Who's gonna know?" he winked playfully at her. "Come on, I did bring you your book back."
"Fine. But you can't stay long, my mum will be home soon," she lied again. Just to be on the safe side, she knew he would try to find any excuse he could find to stay so she needed a good excuse of her own to kick him out if need be.
"Do you want something to drink?" she asked him as he stepped inside.
"Sure, water is fine," he smiled as he looked at photos on the wall of herself and her family.
"Ok." She lead the way to the kitchen expecting him to follow.
"Can I use your bathroom?"
"Sure, it's up the stairs, the second door to your right," she said, pointing her finger to show where she meant.
"Thanks," he grinned, making his way upstairs.
Bella grabbed a glass from the kitchen and poured him some water from the fridge. She sat on the counter nibbling on some chocolate as she waited for him. A couple of minutes had gone by and he still hadn't come back down, he was taking a long time she thought. She walked out of the kitchen and quietly headed upstairs. Making her way to the bathroom she noticed that the door was open with the light was switched off. Something out of the corner of her eye grabbed her attention as she passed her room, she walked inside to find Dean standing by her desk.
"What are you doing?" she snapped. He didn't even look at her as he continued snooping around her room, almost like he knew he was going to be caught and didn't care.
"It's a nice room," he said, easing himself onto her bed as he continued to stalk her with his eyes.
"You shouldn't be in here." Crossing her arms as she looked down at him.
"Why? Am I making you nervous?" he smirked up at her, his arms resting behind his head as he laid himself out comfortably.
"No I just- " She was cut off as he suddenly stood up from her bed and glided towards her, he was so close now...too close.
"You just what?" His eyes focused on her lips as he moved his head down closer to hers. Bella found herself unable to move, cursing herself silently, she was supposed to be avoiding this, she had told herself so many times last night that she wouldn't let this happen again and yet here they were again.
He was just about to kiss her when she quickly turned her head away from him. "Dean don't, I think you should go," she told him keeping her eyes to the floor, afraid that the moment she looked into his gaze she would give into him.
He bit down on his lip, his gaze never leaving hers. "Ok, I'll go. Only, if I get a kiss," he smirked, making her turn her head up to look at him in shock.
"Just one kiss. If you tell me to go after that, I'll leave you alone. Promise."
Bella stared up at him hoping to hear him say that he was just messing with her, but only watched as the smirk on his face grew even wider, she almost scoffed in annoyance. "Dean," she warned him.
"One kiss," he repeated, his body now inches away from hers. She knew she shouldn't. Tell him no, tell him no Bella told herself! He placed his hand on her cheek, his body now touching hers. So many thoughts were going through her head and she didn't know which one to listen to.
No, I have to stop this she thought. She opened her mouth to tell him no but he took the opportunity to capture her lips with his own. A little taken back from the sudden contact, she allowed him to kiss her, thinking if she did he would leave like he promised, but before she knew it his slow kisses were making her feel all tingly and she was kissing him back. He pulled back to look at her briefly, a small smirk back on his face before kissing her again.
Bella tried to pull back but his hold on her was too strong as he continued kissing her. She moved her hands on his arms in attempt to push him off but his tongue quickly started teasing her lips like he had done in the closet that night. The next thing she knew she was being laid down on her bed with Dean hovering above her. He positioned her legs so they were on either side of his waist before lying on top of her and kissing her neck. She could feel his whole body being pressed into her own, the feeling was incredible, but at the same time completely nerve racking!
"God you feel so good," he moaned in her ear before lightly sucking on her earlobe. Bella opened her eyes wide as he grinded into her, she could feel him as he started to rock his hips lightly against hers.
Panic shot through her body as she realized what she was doing, what he wanted. It was like a bullet had shot through her and reality had finally hit her. What seemed like a flashback took over her mind and she was suddenly remembering her sister telling her about love and feelings and how you know when your ready because you get all these butterflies and your whole body just feels right. You're not supposed to feel scared, you're not supposed to have doubts. You're supposed to feel safe and right now she felt the complete opposite and wanted to get as far away from Dean as possible.
Dean's hands quickly moved their way around her waist and he started kissing her with more force this time that he was actually starting to hurt her. Bella moved her hands to his chest in order to push him off, but he wouldn't budge. She quickly moved her head to the side.
"Dean wait, I can't!" She pushed him off, this time succeeding and quickly scrambled away from him and off of her bed; pulling her top down from where his hands had been.
"What is it?" his voice slightly annoyed.
"I can't do this right now. You need to leave Dean," she told him, her heart beating incredibly fast.
"I really think I should stay," he teased as he slowly stood from her bed and began gradually walking towards her. Why couldn't he just listen to her for once?
"My mum will be home soon."
"Dean please, just go before..." Like she could really force him out she thought sarcastically.
"Before what?" She felt the nerves increasing as he came even closer.
"Before I make you." A familiar voice said from behind her. Bella turned around to find Liam standing in her doorway with an angry expression on his face.
"Well look who it is!" Dean announced.
"Liam? What are you doing here?" she queried, concern etched across his face as he stared back at her. "I was just coming to see if you were ok. Your front door was unlocked."
"Aww isn't that sweet," Dean smirked, looking over at Liam.
"You shut the hell up!" he warned Dean as he stepped inside, Bella now in the middle of the two.
"Or what?" Dean prodded, attempting to wrap his arms around Bella's waist but didn't get very far as Liam suddenly grabbed him by his shirt. Bella quickly moved out of the way in time to watch Liam shove Dean up against the wall. She rushed over and grabbed hold of Liam's arm and tried to pull him away. "Liam don't!"
"Well, this is like déjà vu all over again," Dean grumbled, making Liam tense up immediately. "You just don't know when to stop do you?" Liam growled at him. Bella was so confused, what were they talking about? Déjà vu?
"What can I say? It was just too easy," glancing over at Bella before continuing, "Still is." She saw anger flash through Liam's eyes as he shoved him up against the wall again making Dean grunt in pain. Bella had never seen Liam like this. She didn't even know he had this side to him. The anger in his eyes was almost scary as he glared at Dean, he looked almost dangerous yet oddly sexy at the same time... really Bella, talk about inappropriate timing she scolded herself.
She watched on as Liam was about to hit Dean but she quickly grabbed his arm once again and urgently tried to pull him back. "Liam please, don't!" she pleaded.
Bella knew Liam could easily take him if he wanted to, but she was afraid that he wouldn't be able to stop, she had no idea what he was capable of after all. He held his arm up slightly as if he was contemplating whether or not to hit him.
"Liam," she repeated softly. He glanced over to her, his eyes resting on her own. He watched her carefully almost like he was searching for something. "Please."
The anger in his face slowly washed away as he allowed her to pull his arm down to his side. His jaw tightened slightly before he let out a sigh of defeat and slowly let go of Dean. Liam shifted his eyes back to Dean, continuing to glare at him.
"Dean," Bella started.
"Yeah, I'm going," he told her, rearranging his now creased shirt. "See you later gorgeous." Giving her one last wink making Liam growl lightly before disappearing from her room. They both stood there in silence, neither one looking at one another until the sound of her front door slammed shut announcing that Dean had finally left.
They stood there for a few minutes more until she could feel his gaze upon her. "What was he doing here Bella?" he frowned. What was she supposed to say? He's going to hate me she thought. "Bella!" he repeated softly, their eyes now locked.
"He...he just...dropped off a book I left at school," she stuttered. Why was it so hard to lie to him?
"How did he know where you lived?" he asked, looking down at her with confusion. Oh crap! "I...I don't know?" she replied quietly.
"Bella!" She could tell by his voice that he was getting impatient.
She let out a sigh before looking up at him nervously. "He gave me a ride home from school ok," she said quickly.
"What!" he gasped, anger in his eyes once more.
"It was just a ride home, nothing happened!"
He ran his hands through his hair and moved towards her. "Bella... what are you doing?" His voice full of concern as he watched her carefully.
"Nothing!" she shrieked, ignoring his intense stare that was making her feel slightly uncomfortable. What is she doing? This wasn't her, she knew that. Scott was right... what her sister must think of her. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes.
"I don't know?" She bowed her head down slightly, placing both of her hands on top of her head before letting out a gently cry. "I don't know?" she repeated.
Bella could feel him slowly approaching her, feeling a light tug at her sleeve as he tried to embrace her, but she quickly pulled away knowing the moment he held her she would break. "Don't please. I...I can't...Scott was right...about everything."
She noticed him shift slightly, "He told me what happened. That's why I'm here, he asked me to check up on you for him."
Bell didn't know how to respond to that, she thought he had come because he cared, but of course he was made to come...she knew it. Then why did he act like that with Dean? Was that on Scott's behalf as well? It didn't make sense.
"He feels really bad about what he said," he told her, his voice so soft and comforting. She knew Scott hadn't meant it...but it still hurt.
She felt more tears come down her face and it was no use wiping them away this time, they were still going to fall. Liam slowly moved towards her again giving her enough time to stop him, but she let him approach her this time as he gently held her arm, softly squeezing it before he engulfed her in a hug and wrapped his strong arms around her petite figure making them fit perfectly. Bella allowed herself to cry into his chest, breathing in his amazing smell every now and then. The way he embraced her was so sweet and his hold on her was strong yet gentle at the same time, she felt like nothing or no one could hurt her as long as she stayed like this. He moved so that one hand was rubbing her back soothingly as she continued to cry while the other was lightly playing with the end of her curls.
"I think maybe...maybe you're acting out of grief, with this whole Dean thing," he said hesitantly. Bella moved her head up to look at him a little taken back. "What?"
"People deal with loss in different ways, I mean it's completely understandable Bella," he said, looking down at her. She moved out of his embrace and stepped away from him frowning slightly.
"Why does everyone keep assuming that every time there's something wrong it has something to do with my sister?" she sobbed, feeling slightly hurt at his accusation.
Liam gazed dwn at her silently for a few seconds, his eyes oddly serious. "Doesn't it?"
Bella looked away from him, leaning her back against the wall. "You don't know anything," she replied softly with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
"Don't I?" Moving to stand in front of her before continuing, "From the moment I met you, there's been this...sadness inside of you. I see it all the time, even when you try to cover it up by smiling or making some kind of joke, I can still see it." She shifted her gaze to the floor unable to watch him any longer. She had no idea he had paid so much attention to her.
"I know it's tearing you apart. I know that you feel like life will never be the same again, that nothing or no one will ever make it right. Even though it feels like you've moved on, a part of you is still holding on, making it seem like a bad dream," he goes on his eyes still watching her. "At some point you have to let go Bella. You have to move on," he finished.
Bella let her head come in contact with the wall behind her as she shut her eyes, tears flowing down her face. "I can't." She slid down the wall feeling the weight of everything come crashing down on her.
Liam knelt down in front of her, his face full of sympathy as he spoke to her. "I know it's hard, unbearable even, but you have to let go Bella, before it destroys you." He grazed her cheek lightly before he sat down beside her, both of their backs to the wall. She knew that everything he was telling her was the truth, she knew he was right and that oddly surprised her. Her own family had tried to talk about this with her before even Scott, but she shut them all out refusing to talk about it. Yet here was some guy that she has only known for a short amount of time and yet she wasn't pushing his away.
"If you think you're gonna go through it alone then you can forget it. You have so many people that care about you and just want to help you, including Scott. You've gotta stop pushing them away Bella," he told her. She turned to look at him. "You make it sound so simple, but... I fell so broken inside Liam, how am I supposed to fix that? It's not that easy," she sighed.
"I know, but I can try," he said, smiling down at her lightly. "Why?" she asked curiously. She waited as he watched her intently, too intently, she wanted to look away but, she saw a small smile appear on his face.
"Someones got to," he stated sweetly. "Come here." He moved his arm around her pulling her close to him so she could lay her head on his shoulder. Bella turned slightly so that she was now cuddling up to his side. They stayed like that for what seemed like forever as her tears finally came to a stop.
She could feel herself fighting to stay awake, her body felt completely worn out. Bella embraced the heat radiating from Liam's body as he had his arms wrapped around her once more with one hand slowly running through her curls. Bella couldn't remember a time where she had felt this content. She didn't want it to end. But her eyelids finally gave in allowing sleep to overtake her.
