8. Chapter 8

~~Bella felt extremely bad for Sam the next morning as she walked into the spare room to find her sitting up on the bed with her head in her hands.

"Good morning."

Sam's head shot up quickly as Bella spoke which only made her groan in pain as she dropped her head back down in her hands. Poor thing she thought.

"Is this your house?" Sam asked groggily.

"Yeah , you were really drunk last night."

"Uhh, please tell me I dreamt of playing 10 minutes in heaven," she murmured.
"Super," Sam groaned again, raising her head slowly.

"Here, drink this," Bella said, handing her a milkshake with a special few ingredients inside. "It helps with the hangover."

Sam took the drink and sniffed it, "What's in this?" she asked with a look of disgust on her face.

"You don't wanna know!"

Bella took a seat at the end of the bed as Sam took her first sip, she couldn't help chuckling at the faces she was pulling as she swallowed.

"So what else happened last night?" Sam asked.
"Uh oh! What did I do?" A worried looked plastered on her face.
"Not you...I kind of played 10 minutes in heaven," she told her.

Sam looked at her with a slight grin on her face. "Let me guess, Deano boy?"

"Yeah," Bella blushed, looking away before continuing, "I don't know what I was thinking? I just couldn't say no!"

"He has that effect," she told her giving her an almost knowing look. "So, how was it? He as good as they say he is?"

"Oh he's definitely good and he knows it!" She watched as Sam took another sip. "Thanks for letting me crash here Bella," she smiled.

"You're welcome," she smiled back. "We have about an hour until school if you want to shower? You can borrow whatever you want from my closet."

"Oh god I think I'm gonna throw up!"

Bella quickly jumped off the bed and watched as Sam held her hand to her mouth and ran towards the bathroom.

"I'm never drinking ever again!"

Sam could barely stand straight as they had finally arrived at school later that morning. After throwing up a couple more times she decided to call it a day and ditch school altogether. Bella quickly ran to her locker after Sam left and shoved her books straight into her bag, she had already missed first period and really didn't want to show up late for English. Hearing the bell ring, Bella quickly shut her locker and collided straight into her cousin Scott.

"Geez, what are you made of metal or something?"

"I need to talk to you."

"What's up?" she replied quickly, closing her bag up.

"In private," he pushed on.

"I can't, I'm running late for class, I really can't miss -"

"I know what happened at the party," he interrupted her. Bella's heart immediately stopped, she hadn't even thought about what Scott would do if he found out. How did he even find out?

Bella decided to play this one out, maybe she could convince him that it was just a stupid rumour or something. "What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb Bells, you know what i;m talking about,"

"How do you even know?

"What did you expect? You were making out in a closet. He's a bad guy Bella."
"Look it was just a game ok, no big deal," she tried to convince him.

Unable to look at him anymore she turned to walk to her class but came face to face with a smug looking Dean. Could today get any worse!

"Hey," he smiled down at her.

Before she could reply, Scott moved in front of her so that he was facing Dean instead.

"You stay the hell away from her!"
"And if I don't?" he grinned, both boys glaring at each other. "What are you gonna do?"

Scott immediately reacted, moving closer towards Dean. Bella quickly ran between them and pushed Scott back a little, knowing if she didn't try to do something this wouldn't end well.

"Scott don't, just leave it," she begged him.

"Get out of the way Bella." His gaze never leaving Dean's.

"Scott please!" Bella tried pushing him back but he didn't budge, she suddenly noticed the people that had stopped to watch probably hoping to see a fight.

"If you think for one second that she's going to become one of the many on that list of yours, you're wrong," Scott growled. "If you ever touch her or come near her again I will put your ass back in hospital. I'm not gonna let you hurt her, not while i'm around."

"I guess I can redeem myself, whether or not she can though is a different story," Dean smirked back.

Now was really not the time to be smug she thought, and why had he been in the hospital she wondered?

Scott scoffed before answering, "If that's what you have to believe. You're not even worth her time." He pulled Bella gently at his side as he walked away.

"Is that right?" Dean called back, causing them both to turn around. "Because if I remember rightly, she didn't mind touching me the other night," he finished, winking at Bella.

Fury suddenly washed over Scott. He let go of arm and quickly marched back towards Dean. Before she could say or do anything, Scott had punched Dean in the face causing him to fall back against the lockers. Bella watched in shock as Dean quickly recovered and hurled himself towards Scott,  tackling him straight to the ground. Not stopping there, Dean swung a punch of his own as he hovered above Scott attempting another, but Scott was too fast and ended up rolling him off so they had switched places.

Bella wanted to do something, anything to stop them, but she didn't know how, she knew they wouldn't listen to her. Everybody around them was either cheering or just like her was watching with helplessness.

"Both of you stop!" she yelled at them, "Stop it, Scott please!"

They both continued to roll around on the floor trying to throw punches at one another wherever they could reach. Bella continued to yell at them but they continued to ignore her. Before she knew it she found herself running towards them, grabbing hold of Scott's hoodie and trying to pull him off but was having no luck. She couldn't believe people were just watching and weren't even trying to help her. As if her prayers had been answered Mr.Collins came from around the corner, the fight immediately coming to his attention.

"What's going on?" he yelled. "Enough the both of you!" Bella continued pulling at Scott again but they continued to ignore them. "Scott, please stop!"

Bella was suddenly lifted by a pair of strong arms that were wrapped around her waist and had moved her away from the scene before gently placing her back on the ground. Confused, she quickly turned around to find the person to be none other then Liam. Before she could say anything he rushed over towards Scott, using all his strength to pull him off of Dean before he could get in another shot. Now free, Dean attempted to lunge at Scott but was immediately pulled back by Mr.Collins.

"That's it, both of you straight to the headmasters office, now!" he yelled. He lightly pushed Dean in front of him as he followed leaving Scott to follow behind them.

Bella watched as Liam let go of Scott, readjusting his clothes before he followed. She wanted to say something to him but where would she start?

"Scott," she muttered quietly. He looked at her for a second, a look she had never seen from him before, it was almost like...disappointment. He walked past her without saying a single word, leaving her to stand there speechless.

"Everybody back to class." Mr.Collins called back, before disappearing around the corner with the two boys. She couldn't move. Her whole body felt numb. Why did he look at her like that? It's not like she did anything wrong. All this over one stupid kiss?

"Are you ok?"

Bella snapped her head up to look at Liam, forgetting that he was still there. "I can't believe that just happened," she replied, looking down the hall where Scott had been just seconds ago. Scott's protectiveness was nothing new, but this side of him was different, she had never seen him react like that before.

Liam seemed to consider what she had said for a minute, he shrugged his shoulders lightly. "I can't exactly say I blame him." He watched her intently as silence sipped through them. The halls were now empty, leaving them both to stand there alone.

"I take it you've heard too," she mumbled, unable to look at him. "It was just a game."

Bella started to feel slightly uncomfortable as the silence continued, but relaxed as soon as she heard his voice. "That's the thing Bella," moving in front of her so they were now facing.  "Everything is a game to him."

Bella could tell he was holding something back but she knew now wasn't the time to push him on it, she didn't need a second person pissed at her. "You should get to class," he told her quietly, she thought she saw a look of pain in his eyes for a second but before she could really be sure he began walking away from her. Was he mad at her too?

"Liam." He turned to look at her the minute she called out to him. "Are you mad at me too?" she asked quietly. Bella watched as he walked back towards her, confusion written all over his face. "Why would you think that?"

"I don't know?" she shrugged, looking down once more. "You are Scott's friend."

Liam moved his hand gently under her chin making her look him in the eye. His focus on her made her knees feel wobbly and his touch was so warm and inviting, she almost groaned in annoyance as his hand left her face, but luckily it wasn't loud enough. "I'm also your friend," he said sincerely. She could have sworn that his gaze focused on her lips for just a second. "I could never be mad at you Bella."

She couldn't help the smile that crept on her face as he said that. The effect he had over her was unreal and it only seemed to be with him. Even Dean couldn't make her feel this way. Sure he made her nervous and blush just like Liam could, but it wasn't the same. When she was with Dean something always felt wrong and made her feel a tad bit uneasy. Whereas around Liam, he could make her feel nervous, but in a good way.

Bella was unable to concentrate the rest of the day, the fight replaying over and over in her head. If only she could turn the clocks back, she would have just gone home that night like she wanted, she should have said no, but like an idiot she wanted to fit in. She cursed herself for not wanting to look like a goody goody in front of Dean, she knew her behaviour was the complete opposite of what she's usually like, but for some reason she didn't care! Maybe Dean was a bad guy, but he still made her feel a little more free whenever he was around her, he made her forget.

Bella had skipped lunch that day and spent it at the back of the library where she sat and thought about everything. When school had ended, Bella took her time packing her things away, she didn't feel like facing anyone right now and decided to leave from the back of the school which lead to a park a few minutes away. She was glad to find it empty and made her way towards the bench that overlooked a small lake which from the cold weather was now frozen ice. She could feel the cold wind rush over her body and through her hair making her shiver.

After a while. she got that feeling that she was no longer alone. Bella glanced over her shoulder to find Dean slowly approaching her, avoiding his gaze she paid her attention back to the lake.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, now sitting beside her.

Bella continued to ignore him, she was furious with him. If  he had just kept his mouth shut then Scott would have never hit him to begin with.

"The silent treatment huh?" he continued. "It's ok, I'm used to it," he muttered. The sadness in his voice surprised her, she gazed over at him slightly and couldn't help feeling a little bad for him.

It was moments like this that made her doubt the person that everyone was warning her about, he never showed it often but she could see that other side to him. Whether it was sincere or not...she didn't know and that's what confused her more. Bella looked away before he caught her staring, she heard him chuckle, obviously aware that she had been. They stayed in silence for a little while until she couldn't take it anymore.

"Why did you say that to him? You knew it would make him mad." Bella observed his face as he sighed heavily before answering.

"Yeah, I know."

"Then why?" she pushed on. Dean studied her, his gaze darting back and forth between her eyes, she noticed a frown appear on his face.

"In case you haven't noticed, we're not exactly buddies," he simply stated.

"Seems like a lot of people aren't so buddy buddy with you," she said, probably a little harsher then she intended. The frown on his face slowly changed into a small smirk.

"You seem to have an idea why," making it sound more like a statement.

Bella observed him once more, not missing the sadness in his voice again. "Actually I don't; not really anyway. But judging by what happened earlier, I could take a pretty good guess."

"You know, you're kinda hot when you're pissed off!" he said, with a half grin.

Bella rolled her eyes in annoyance. "I don't think I've ever seen Scott so angry before. I mean he's always been protective, maybe a little overprotective sometimes. But nowhere near as bad as earlier and I know there's a reason behind it. Why were you in the hospital?" she asked, looking him straight in the eye.

She noticed him tense up at this, he never answered her though, she didn't really expect him to. "I'm having all these people telling me to be careful around you, to stay away and I know I should but..."

"But What?"

"I think you can be a nice guy Dean, but I don't get it, do you want people to hate you? What did you do to make everybody I know warn me about you?"

Bella waited for an answer, but Dean sat there in silence and gazed over the lake in front of them. It was clear that he wasn't going to open up, but instead of pushing him about it she decided to let it drop.

"I should get home!"

"Let me take you," he offered.

Bella scoffed in bewilderment. "I don't think so!" She sat up from the bench to walk away but he cut in front of her and blocked her path.

"Come on. Just a ride home," he stated, she searched his face for the slightest smirk but was surprised to find his expression completely genuine.

Bella let out a sigh before answering him, "Fine." She knew this was a bad idea but it was just a ride home right, what's the worst that could happen?

After what seemed like the longest ride of her life, they finally pulled up outside her house. She didn't hesitate to sit there like she normally did with Liam, instead she undid her seat belt and went to open the car door when Dean's voice suddenly stopped her.

"About earlier, I'm sorry."

Bella sighed and eased back into the chair. "I don't want you to be sorry. Besides, I'm not the one you should be saying it to." Making it obvious as to who she meant.

Dean scoffed and shook his head "Not happening sweetheart."

"Why am I not surprised?" she said, in a mocking tone. Grabbing her bag, she opened the car door and slid out. "Thanks for the ride," she muttered before slamming his door shut and heading towards her house.

After a few hours of being home, Bella tried calling Scott, but every time she did it said he was unreachable! She was getting annoyed at this point! Attempting one last time, she waited and was relieved when it finally started ringing.

"Hello," She heard Scott's voice, he still sounded upset.

"Scott....Are you there?" She heard a low sigh before he answered, "I'm here."
"How much trouble did you get in?"
"Barely none. Advantages of having a coach," he told her.

Scott was apart of the football team at their school, so obviously if their star player suddenly couldn't play, there would be a lot of unhppy people.

"Oh good....Scott, I wanna say I'm sorry but, I don't know what I'm supposed to be apologizing for?" she explained, trying to keep her voice calm so he wouldn't fly off the handle.

Bella heard him sigh again, probably trying his best to keep his cool. "Scott, it was just a kiss! It didn't mean anything!" she tried to tell him.

#"Don't you see Bella!? That's exactly how it starts. He makes a girl fall for him, takes what he wants and then leaves them, it's what he does Bella!"

"That's not going to happen to me!"

"Oh don't be naive Bella! He does this all the time, he's playing you right into his hands!" he told her.
"No he's not!"
"Why are you defending him?" his voice growing angrier by the minute.

"I'm not. He hasn't done anything to me."

"Not yet he hasn't. This is exactly what happened to your sister Bella. Don't you even see? Do you really think she would want this?"

Bella felt her heart drop at that, had he really just said that to her?

 "Sh*t! Bella I'm sorry I - "

"You can't say stuff like that to me!" she muttered, her voice cracking at the end.
"I know Bella, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it!"
"Just leave me alone!"
"Bella - "

Bella quickly hung up the phone not wanting to hear anymore. She wrapped her arms around herself and let her tears fall free. Her phone rang but she didn't bother picking it up, she knew it would be Scott. As soon as it stopped ringing it rang once again. Furious this time, she grabbed her phone and threw it at her wall where it scattered into pieces. Bella stood there for a second before realizing what she had done and immediately tried putting it back together, but it was no use, she couldn't fix it.

Bella continued to sob as Scott words continued to play over in her head. The one person that she could always rely on, the one person that was always there for her and could always manage to put a smile on her face had just hurt her. Would her sister really be disappointed in her because she kissed a guy? Maybe she had a poor choice in the guy, but it was harmless, she wasn't hurting anybody. If Scott could make out with anyone and do whatever he wanted then why couldn't she?
