30. Chapter 30

Wow! That was the only word that came to Scott's mind. He has known Bella his whole life and not once has he seen her act like that. He had to admit he was quite proud of her. It's about time she stuck up for herself. She's been doing that a lot lately....he would know. He felt terrible about the way he's been towards her, but what was he supposed to do? Just sit back and watch her get hurt, again! He didn't want to ignore her, he could see how much it was affecting her. But he couldn't make up without being ok with her and Liam, which he wasn't!

Deep down he knew Liam would never intentionally hurt her, but he's known him for a long time now. After what happened with Cammy he's never been in a relationship since. Who says he ready for another one now? Even though Bella told him that they haven't done anything, it's only a matter of time. Liam may be a nice guy but he's still a guy, meaning even he can only wait for so long until he starts getting impatient.

He hated Liam for what he has done! How could he do this to him! They have been best buds for years and now.... He warned him to stay away and he swore he wouldn't go near her, but he went along and did it anyway! He couldn't wrap his head around it all! How could Bella still want to be with him after what happened with him and Jennifer! He wanted top rip every bone out of his body but the sneaky bastard was nowhere to be seen.

"Still pissed at me?"

Scott turned his head to the side of his locker and found Chase standing there with an annoying smug on his face.

"*F**k off Chase!" he muttered, loud enough for him to hear.

"Ah come on, you know you can't stay mad at me forever."

"Does it look like i'm joking!" he raised his voice hoping he'd get the message and piss off.

"You know what, you're an as*hole," he said matter of factly, instantly gaining Scott's attention.

"Is that right?" Scott asked, facing Chase as he crossed his arms together.

"Yeah, that's right! You can think whatever you want about me, because I really don't give a s**t. But i'm not gonna stand around and watch you treat Bella like this!"

Scott scoffed at him and turned away, facing the inside of his locker. "Do me a favour and save the speech for someone that cares. I think we both know you don't really give a crap about her, or not until she's had the tour of your bedroom anyway."

"You would think that wouldn't you," Chase laughed sarcastically.

Scott turned around to face him again. "What, you're telling me you like her as well? That it's got nothing to do with you wanting to get some?"

He laughed and turned away once more. "We both know, that coming from you is a joke."

"You know what, i'm gonna be honest with you," he said confidently. "I tried to kiss her the other day."

Scott's temper immediately flared up. "What?" he shouted, slamming his locker shut as he faced Chase properly.

"Yeah," he muttered, looking almost disappointed. Good, Scott thought smugly.

"She turned me down, for him." Chase moved in a little closer and lowered his voice. "Maybe the next time you accuse her of getting around, you should get all your facts straight."

He wanted to punch Chase clear in the face....but he was right. He saw them both together that day and didn't even think to ask what it was about. He just jumped to conclusions and accused her of something he knew she would never do. She wasn't that person. But he knew it would hurt her and so he didn't care. The look she had given him before she had walked away made him feel worse about it. It held sadness and confusion and a whole lot of disappointment. He didn't mean to hurt her feelings like that.

"Incoming," Chase whispered before walking away.

Scott turned his head and immediately cursed to himself. "Here we go!"

"Scott! That little tramp cousin of yours -"

"Don't even go there with me Jennifer!" he snapped, really not in the mood for this.

"I will not let her get away with this," she threatened.

"Whatever you say, Jen." Not really having a care in the world, she was all talk anyway.

"You're not even going to help me!"

"Why would I help you Jennifer?"

"Oh please. It's not like you and Liam are on speaking terms at the moment, or even Bella for that matter," she smiled, making Scott want to tear her a new one.

"We both know where it's leading and we both know how it's gonna end. So what do you say, you help me get Liam and i'll help you gain back your precious little cousin."

"And how are you gonna do that?"

"Well, after i'm done with her, she's going to need a shoulder to cry on once her heart is broken. Thank god that she'll have you there to help her through it."

"Wow, you're good."

"You would know," she winked mischievously. He didn't answer, no need to go down memory lane.

"Why Liam?" he asked suspiciously. It's not like her to cling onto used toys, he knew her all too well.

"Can't get enough of him?" he teased, expecting some slutty comeback in return.

Instead, she turned her gaze away and crossed her arms, she couldn't have looked more disappointed.

He opened his mouth in shock. "It never happened, did it?"

"It will, once I win." Jennifer looked at him with a sly grin on her face. "So, you in?"

He thought for a second before returning her grin. "You know what I think? I think you're a very clever..." he started, moving closer towards her.

"Hmm?" she moaned, flirtatiously biting the bottom of her lip.

"Conniving.... little whore!" he snarled, making her whole body stiffen. "You so much as make her cry or lie one finger on her or upset her in any way, I will end you! You think you're popular now? Once i'm through with you, you will no longer be the queen bee of this school. You'll be a laughing stock. Am I making myself clear?"

Jennifer nodded her head quickly, slowly trying to slide against the wall to get away. Seeing this Scott put both hands against the wall to trap her making her quiver. He would never hurt a girl, but she's gone one step too far. A little warning never hurt anybody.

"Good, now you leave them alone!" he growled quietly before turning away from her. "Oh, one more thing Jenny, put some ice on it!"

"Stop teasing me!" Bella whined, hiding her face in her locker. Liam couldn't help but laugh at her, she was really cute when she got embarrassed.

"What? There's nothing wrong with being a little feisty. It's kind of a turn on actually."

She blushed slightly and leaned against her locker. "Maybe I should apologise."

Liam couldn't believe what he was hearing, how could she be so forgiving! "After everything she's done!" Jennifer has been nothing but a total b**ch towards her and yet she wanted to say she was sorry! She really did amaze him.

"You're too nice you know," he told her making her roll her eyes playfully.

"Now you sound like Scott," she smiled slightly before gazing down at the floor like she had just realised what she had said. "I have to get to class."

Liam took hold of her hand before she could walk away and wrapped his arms around her. "I love how I can hold you whenever I want now. I'm glad we nuked the baby steps."

She laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck, "Me too." Standing on her tiptoes she pulled his head down and kissed him. He would never get tired of this he thought.

With a small blush and a smile she gradually walked away leaving him to stare after her, he laughed to himself as he counted the amount of times she looked behind to see if he was still watching or not. As she rounded the corner Liam finally turned around. He looked up in surprise at the person standing in front of him.

"We need to talk."

The last bell of the day finally rang! Bella didn't know if it was just her or if the class was that boring, but the time had gone so immensely slow!

"God, I didn't think it was ever going to end!" Santi complained while giving out a big yawn.

"I know, I feel like a zombie!" Sam agreed as she too yawned.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow," Bella quickly announced, hoping they didn't think she was being rude by leaving so abruptly.

Sam looked at her carefully with a sly smile across her face, "Busy plans for tonight?"

"Bye!" she sauntered away, a big grin on her face as she did.

Surprised not to find Liam already there she decided to make a quick trip to her locker. As she was putting all of her books away she felt two strong arms wrap around her.

"Hey Princess," he murmured in her ear making her heart beat faster. She closed her locker door and turned around in his arms.

"Hey, you ready to go?" she asked him as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

His gaze left hers for a moment. "Actually I have to stay a little longer."

"You do?" she asked, watching him carefully. She could tell he was acting weird as he couldn't even look her in the eye.

"Uh yeah," he muttered, shifting his gaze anywhere but her face.

"Just some make up test in maths from when I wasn't here. It won't take long and then i'm all yours," he told her, this time looking her straight in her eyes before slowly kissing her.

"Ok," she muttered as she pulled away, still finding his behaviour slightly off. "I'll just walk then."

"Actually," Liam started, watching as he pursed his lips together, his eyes quickly focusing on something behind her. "Somebody's already giving you a ride."

"Really, who?" Bella watched with curiousness as Liam continued to gaze behind her. She spun her head around and silently gasped in surprise. "Scott?"

"What's going on?" she asked, looking between them both.

"I'll leave you to it," Liam muttered nodding towards Scott before his eyes fixed onto her. He gave her an encouraging smile probably sensing her confusion and nerves about the whole situation.

"Thanks," Scott muttered back, his voice strong yet gentle at the same time. She could have just imagined it but, she thought she caught a small smile on his face as he and Liam exchanged glances before he left them alone.

"Hi," Scott said after a couple minutes of not saying anything to each other. "Hi," she replied back half heartily.

"Can I take you home?"

"Fine," she said, ignoring him completely as she walked ahead of him.

She could feel his stare on her the whole way to his car but she made no effort to be the one to start wherever this was going. Knowing Scott he would be all nice to her and then probably make her choose between himself and Liam, something she was completely not prepared for.

Bella sighed to herself and leaned her back against his car door. "What is this about?"

"Because I am really not getting in the car if you're gonna yell and scream and tell me to stop seeing Liam because I don't care what you say! I'm not - "

"Bella!" he interrupted her. She rested her hands on her hips and patiently waited, ready for anything he was about to give her.

"I'm sorry."

Ok maybe not everything. "What?"

"I'm sorry," he repeated, making sure she wasn't hearing things. "I was a jerk. Everything I said to you, I didn't mean any of it." He stayed silent for a moment before continuing.

"I need you to know that. I was just so pissed off!"

"I know," she muttered quietly, finding herself looking at the ground in shame.

"You should have told me sooner Bells!" Sternly looking her in the eye.

"I wanted to," she said quickly. "But...I was afraid."

"Of me?" he asked hurtfully.

"Of how you would have reacted! No matter how you would have found out, you still would have acted the same way," she told him straight. He looked away for a moment probably realising how true that was.

"I just, I don't want him to hurt you."

She wrapped her arms around herself and looked him straight in the eye, "It's not like that."

"You really in love with him?" he asked, watching her carefully.

"Yeah, I am," she smiled. "He makes me happy."

"I know," he sighed, walking towards her. "I'm sorry Bella, I really am."

Without another word she rushed straight into his arms and wrapped hers tight around him letting out a small cry as she did. "I'm sorry too! I'll never keep anything from you again, I promise!" she wept, missing his big suffocating bear hugs.

"I missed you," she sobbed against his shoulder.

"Same here little cuz," he said softly before pulling away. "Look, this whole thing between you and Liam is weird for me ok."

"I know," she nodded.

"But, i'm starting to see the old Bella come back and I know he somewhat helped do that," he admitted grudgingly.

"So, it's ok by me, I mean i'm not telling you.....I mean....." He took a deep breath and tried again. "I don't entirely hate it."

"I'm ok with it," he repeated, finding her disbelief amusing.

"You are? Seriously!?" Trying to find any hint as to whether he was secretly plotting some kind of revenge or something.

"Seriously. But!" Oh no she thought, here we go..... "I've warned him! If he ever hurts you in any way, I don't care how much you beg me not to, I will beat the s**t out of him!"

"You mean you guys have already talked?" Ignoring the little threat she knew would never least she hoped not.

"Yeah, sorry about the whole thinking you guys had slept together, he told me you haven't done anything."

"I wished you had just believed me."

"I'm sorry Bella, I was just...."

"I know," she finished for him. "So, we're ok?

"We're ok," he smiled. "Come here," he said, pulling her into yet another bear hug.

"Hey Scott," she started as he settled her down. "I just want you to know, no matter how much I care about Liam, he could never replace you. You know you're more of a brother to me then my cousin. You've always been my hero. Don't ever forget it."

"I wasn't worried," he smirked, though she could tell he was just putting it on.

"Oh sure," she mocked, playfully rolling her eyes.
