~~The last bell of the day rang loudly making Bella's stomach flutter nervously. She hadn't even been able to concentrate on any of her lessons after lunch, all she could think about was the thought of being alone with Liam in his car. Not only did she have to ride with him alone, but she would also have to spend the whole afternoon alone with him as well! Dismissing her thoughts she quickly shoved her books into her bag and slowly walked out of the classroom.
Everything will be fine she told herself, she would just have to make sure not to make eye contact with him while being in his car and when they get home she will just make up some excuse about the amount of homework she had and lock herself in her room. Yeah that could work she thought as she walked on but quickly stopping in her tracks.
There right in front of her was Liam, leaning with his back against the lockers, his arms crossed and a tiny smirk on his gorgeous face. She had never known anyone to be so handsome, as corny as it sounded, it made her heart skip a beat every time.
"Ready to go Princess?" he asked, using her nickname he had chosen for her. She smiled shyly and nodded her head.
"Come on," he smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as he led her down the hallway. It was times like this that made her nervous to be around him, not that having him close was a bad thing, she loved being in his arms.
As they carried on walking she couldn't avoid the amount of stares she was receiving, she tried not to let it bother her but she couldn't help it, it was. As if he could read her mind, Liam tightened his grip around her and smiled at her reassuringly. Bella smiled back and couldn't help imagining for a second what it would be like if they really were a couple.
Once they had reached his car Bella felt herself becoming nervous again and she quickly wished she had just asked Sam for a ride home.
"Uh, yeah. You know what, I think I'm gonna walk home," she told him, avoiding the curiosity on his face. "All the way home?" he questioned.
"Yeah, it's not that far and you know how I like the snow so...see you later."
"Whoa whoa, what's going on?" he asked, quickly standing in her way. "Nothing," she blurted out. "Bella, I'm not letting you walk home."
"I'll be fine," she tried reassuring him.
"Are we really gonna do this again?" glancing down at her with a half grin. She immediately blushed knowing exactly what he was referring to, the whole reason why she was trying to avoid this.
"Come on, you can't say no to this car," he said, pretending to be all serious.
"Yeah, I bet you say that to all your girls!"
Bella watched all the amusement drop from Liam's face and immediately wished she could take it back. She meant it more as a joke, so then why did it come out so differently? She quickly moved to open the door on the passenger side of his car but felt Liam grab hold of her arm, gently pulling her back. Now trapped between the car and Liam she felt herself growing nervous again, their bodies so close from touching.
"Bella, I'm not that kind of guy," he told her. "I have been with a few girls before but, it didn't mean anything."
"Is that what Jennifer means to you?"
"No Bella," he answered straight away, watching her carefully. "She means nothing to me, at all. Not even that."
"Then why are you dating her?"
When he didn't say anything she tried to move away but he trapped her against the door again.
"I wish I could tell you," he said to her oddly.
"Come on," he said, pulling her gently towards his chest with one arm while he opened the car door with the other. "You hungry?"
Bella smiled up at him nervously and nodded her head before she slowly creeped out of his arms and into his car.
After making a quick trip to the supermarket, Liam drove them both home where he immediately began preparing the food. Bella would occasionally offer to help but he would always decline and would tell her to sit back and relax. Leaving Liam in the kitchen she plopped herself on the couch and began flicking through the channels.
Bella had never had a guy cook for her before except for Scott of course, in fact if it wasn't for Scott she probably wouldn't even be able to make toast. Her parents were always busy a lot when she was younger so Scott would come over and teach her how to make all sorts of things. She giggled to herself remembering a time when they had gotten into a food fight and forgotten all about the food they were cooking, almost setting the whole kitchen alight. Her parents were not impressed.
Within a few more minutes Liam was done and walked into the living room with a big smile on his face. She watched in amusement as he sat beside her placing a big bowl of...something on the coffee table.
"Wow. It looks..." like a pile of eww!
"Disgusting, I know," he chuckled, making her laugh.
"What is it?" she asked, wriggling up her nose.
"It's called 'Poutine'." Bella raised her eyebrows questionably. "It's french fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy," he explained, looking proud of his achievement.
"Really?" Thinking it looked nothing like what he described.
"I know it looks like crap but I promise you, after one bite that will all change," he said sincerely. Loving how sweet it was of him to cook for her she decided to give it a try.
"I guess there's a first time for everything," she smiled, earning back a cheeky grin. "Exactly."
Taking the fork that Liam gave her, she plunged right in making sure to get a bit of everything on there before taking her first bite. Liam was right, what looked like a disgusting heap of crap was actually surprisingly delicious!
"Mmm," she moaned lightly, taking another mouthful.
"I take it you like it then?" he said amusingly.
"This is really good!" she told him. "See I told you," he grinned taking a mouthful himself.
"What do you call this again?"
"Poutine," he repeats.
"I've never heard of it before."
"It's Canadian," he explained. Bella noticed something in his eyes suddenly change as he grew silent, after a few more mouthfuls he put down his fork and let out a sigh. "My mum lived in Canada her whole life before she married my dad. She would make this on occasion when it was just me and her."
Bella put down her own fork and stayed quiet waiting for him to go on. "I would hang around the kitchen and watch her," he continued, looking down in his lap. "Pouring the gravy was always the part she let me do. It was our thing I guess..." he trailed off quietly, running his hand through his hair.
Bella didn't know what to say, it was very rare of Liam to open up about his parents or anything to do with his life. He had only once opened up with her and even then it was brief. She knew not talking about it was his own choice, but when he did he revealed that sad, broken boy inside of him. It broke her heart hearing him talk about how his mother left him and how horrible his dad treated him, he didn't deserve it. Seeing the look on his face brought tears to her eyes, this was the first time he really talked about his mother openly. She could see in his eyes how much he missed her, even if he wouldn't admit it.
She gently placed her hand on his arm, silently letting him know that she was there for him. Liam turned his head towards her and smiled at her sweetly.
"Am I interrupting something?"
Both their heads shot around to find Scott looking between her and Liam with a slight frown upon his face.
"No, I was just thanking Liam for cooking for me," she said, feeling slightly guilty about lying. Scott stared at Liam with confusion, "You cook?"
"If that's what you can call it," he smirked, making Bella smile.
"It looks...disgusting!" Scott grimaced, eyeing the food.
"You know it really is, if I were you I would stay far far away," she told him, trying to sound as genuine as possible.
"Please, I always try everything at least once," he said, grabbing the bowl from the table. "Mmm!" he moaned, taking a mouthful.
"Scott!" Bella complained.
"I take it back man, this is great!"
"Scott stop! You're gonna eat it all!" Getting up from the couch and attempting to take it off of him but failing as he dodged her and started running away. "Hey," she yelled, running after him leaving Liam to laugh at them both.
"So darling, what's on your mind?" Judy questioned Bella who was currently sat at the kitchen counter eating a bowl of cereal. Knowing her Aunt Judy, she wouldn't let her "nothing" excuse slide. To be honest she didn't know where to start?
"Is it a boy?"
"What? No!" she answered quickly, slightly caught off guard.
"It is isn't it!" Judy pressed on, grinning widely.
Bella's cheeks were already turning red earning a huge smile from Judy.
"Tell me everything! What's he like? Is he cute? Tall, dark and handsome? Is he smart?"
Bella gave a soft chuckle at her aunt's enthusiasm, "Yeah he is."
"And tall dark and handsome?" Bella nodded her head, "That too."
"And?" her aunt gently prodding her arm signalling for her to continue.
"And... I don't know, he just gets me. I feel different around him.
"Do you love him," she asked, surprising her a little.
Bella's stomach filled with butterflies at just the thought of that. She had told herself many times that she was in love with Liam, but how could she really know that? She had never been in love before.
"How do you know? When you're in love I mean."
"Your heart will let you know. And from the smile on your face, it looks like you already know," she smiled knowingly. "So, do I know him?"
As if right on cue, Scott came strolling into the kitchen followed by the boy who made her heart beat a million times faster each time he was around, he caught her eye and gave her a sweet smile sending her heart into a frenzy. Returning his smile she quickly darted her eyes away remembering who he had a date with tonight. Bella felt her heart drop a little at that, she couldn't deny the fact that she was jealous, just the thought of them being together made her heart tear a little. Her Aunt was right, I guess your heart really does let you know.
Bella noticed Judy secretly smiling at her as she walked past and left the room. Did she know it was Liam? Was she really that obvious?
That day at school had been just like yesterday, slow and torturous. It seemed like every time she turned her head, there was Jennifer, shoving her face in the fact that Liam was taking her out tonight. She even took it upon herself to sit on Liam's lap at lunch which luckily didn't last long as he quickly made an excuse saying he had to use the bathroom.
She almost cheered with happiness when the last bell rang, finally the day was over! Bella wanted nothing more then to go home and change into her pj's while curling up to watch her favourite show Gossip Girls. After school was over she began walking towards Scott's truck but noticed that he wasn't there yet. Great, how long was he going to be this time?
While she waited for Scott she watched as all the other kids were coming out of the building and driving off home. She couldn't get over how long it had been since she and her family had moved here. Even though it had only been a few months, to her it felt longer, whereas other things...not so much. That horrible day still felt like it had happened just yesterday, she wasn't sure if that would ever change?
Bella quickly jerked her head up, recognising his face immediately. "Hi, Chase right?"
"That's right," he smiled. "You waiting on Scott?"
"Yeah, he should be out soon," she replied.
"So, given any thought to Saturday? Or do I have to convince you some more?" Raising his eyebrow amusingly making her chuckle. "Actually, I was thinking I might come after all."
"Good. I promise it will be fun," he said, making her smile.
Out of the corner of her eye she spotted Liam with Jennifer, both of them were walking towards his car. Jennifer caught Bella's stare while Liam opened the passenger door for her. Bella watched as she quickly pulled Liam's head towards her and planted a kiss on the side of his neck, grinning evilly at her as she did so. Bella quickly turned her head away not bothering to see his reaction, she wasn't sure she wanted to know. She had accepted the fact that they were dating, but that didn't mean she wanted to see it. What did Liam see in her anyway? Why can't he see how horrible she really is?
"You're into him huh?" Chase muttered. Bella didn't say anything back, she was still unsure about whether or not she could trust him yet. "Don't worry too much, it won't last long. The girl is a walking nightmare."
She raised an eyebrow after he said that, "You would know?"
He met her eyes briefly before turning away with a cheeky grin, "Sadly yes."
"Hey man," she heard, turning her head to see Scott walking towards them. "What's going on?"
"Just keeping Bella company while you were putting your makeup on," he joked, making Bella laugh.
"Funny," Scott laughed, lightly punching Chase in the arm. "You need a ride?"
"Nah, I'm good thanks."
"Alright well catch ya later."
"Yeah and remember coach wants us in the gym after school tomorrow."
"Alright, see you later Bella." He smiled, quickly winking at her before leaving.
It was six o'clock in the evening, exactly two hours since Liam had left with Jennifer on their date. Bella had finished all her homework, done some laundry and even spent forty five minutes trying to beat Scott at video games. All these distractions and still nothing worked getting Liam off of her mind.
As she laid down on her bed, Bella couldn't help but imagine what going on a date with Liam would be like? Would he take her to dinner? A movie maybe, or both? Thinking about that regrettably got her mind wondering about where he had taken Jennifer? Would he hold every door open for her? Would he watch Jennifer the way he would watch her with that same intensity in his eyes? Would he smile that same gorgeous smile? Would he kiss her at the end of the night, or more?
Thinking about that made her stomach twist, she knew she had no say in the matter, it was none of her business whatever Liam decided to do, or whoever he decided to do it with. She just wasn't sure if she would be strong enough to handle it?
"Hey," Scott appeared at her door. "You hungry? I was thinking about ordering Pizza."
"Your mum working late?"
"Yeah, she said she might be pulling an all nighter," he said, like it was the most bizarre thing he had ever heard.
"Yeah, I'll give her until midnight," they both laughed at that, her Aunt Judy had always been a hard worker but staying up until all hours was something she had not yet accomplished. "So Pizza it is?"
"Sure," she said, getting up off the bed. "I'm gonna go take a shower before it comes."
"Bella." Scott grabbed her arm back lightly, "You alright?"
"Yeah why?" Hating how obvious her emotions always showed.
"I don't know? You just seem...sad." Worry spread across his face. "Do you wanna talk about it?"
"I'm fine, really," she fake smiled, hoping he wouldn't see through it.
He let go of her arm and said, "Ok." Uncertainty still in his voice.
"Ok, call me when the pizza's here," she responded quickly. "Oh and can you please order some extra cheesy bread, thanks."
"Alright, two maxi sized Pizza's and extra cheesy bread," Scott announced as Bella entered the living room.
"Perfect, I'm starving."
"Me too. So what movie you in the mood for?" he asked her.
"Umm, you choose." Letting Scott decide for a change, the amount of times he had put up with watching chick flicks and re-runs of Gossip Girls and never once complained, he really was too good to her sometimes which made her feel extremely guilty. If only he knew just how much she had been keeping from him, he would be so disappointed in her, she knew that for a fact.
"You sure that's safe?" he joked, knowing full well that every time he picked a movie it had her jumping out of her skin or ducking her head in a pillow.
"Don't worry, I've got plenty of pillows to keep me safe." Grabbing the nearest pillow from the couch and hugging it close.
Scott chuckled and nodded his head, "Alright, if you say so." Knowing she was going to regret it.
The front door suddenly swept open and Bella's breath caught. It was that moment right there that she envied Jennifer for what she had. Liam's lips curled into a small smile while his deep brown eyes were locked into her own. How she wished she could call this guy hers. Quickly remembering Scott was in the room, she forced her eyes away from him and hugged the pillow she was holding even tighter.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked when he saw Liam, an odd look spreading across his face.
"Wow, feeling the love man," he replied sarcastically, finally closing the door.
"It's almost eight o'clock and you're already home?" A small frown appeared on Liam's face before he answered, "So?"
"What about Jennifer?" Scott continued asking.
"What about her?" Liam replied blankly, shrugging his shoulders.
"Don't tell me you made your move before the date even started? Dude!" he grinned.
Bella had never felt more out of place then she did at that moment. She debated on taking her pizza and leaving, but she didn't want to make it obvious, she knew Scott would see right through it.
"Nothing happened alright," Liam responded, sounding a little annoyed. Was that true she wondered?
"Yeah, whatever," Scott mumbled to himself. "Here, pop the movie in, I'm getting the drinks." Tossing the movie over to Liam before heading into the kitchen.
Bella slowly walked towards the sofa and flopped herself down while avoiding Liam's face the whole time. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him taking off his leather jacket revealing his strong, well defined arms that were no doubt wrapped around Jennifer a few hours ago. She hated the jealousy she felt towards her, but she couldn't help it. It's like she couldn't control it. She watched as Liam started the DVD up before taking a seat next to her.
"Nice Pj's," Liam mumbled, a small smile across his face. Bella gazed down at her pyjama bottoms that were covered in love hearts and immediately felt herself blush. Way to impress a guy she silently scorned herself.
"Thanks," she mumbled back, hearing Liam lightly chuckle. She hated how easy he could embarrass her.
Scott came back into the room just as the movie was starting with two beers and a soda for her. Bella nervously scooted closer towards Liam to give Scott some space, noticing Liam tense up slightly as she did. Did he not want to sit next to her she wondered? She suddenly wished she had never agreed to a movie.
Bella squirmed when she realized Scott had chosen Final Destination 4. Scott had taken her to see the first one when it came out in the movies which she hated every second of. She could now no longer sit behind a truck full of logs without freaking out and she made a promise to herself to never use a tanning bed ever! Yep, that movie had scarred her for life. She wanted desperately to change the movie, but she knew Scott loved these sorts of films and remembered Liam once telling her that he liked the famous Saw movies, she figured he probably enjoyed this too. So she decided to keep her mouth shut and watch the movie.
An hour had passed and Bella had already jumped and hid her face several times causing both boys to snicker. She hated this movie! She mentally made a note to add car washes to her little list of freak outs. Quickly glancing over at Liam she couldn't help noticing how uncomfortable he looked. Was it because of her she wondered? He turned to look at her, an odd look on his face, almost like he was contemplating with himself. Turning away she focused back on the movie wishing it would be over already so she could disappear.
It was coming up to ten thirty and the movie was finally over! Hearing a light snore Bella turned her head to find Scott completely out of it. She looked at Liam and nervously smiled. He smiled back, chuckling when he noticed Scott.
"Should we wake him?" he whispered.
"Good luck! Once Scott is out, there's no waking him up," she giggled. Giving him one last smile before she stood up and started clearing away the plates on the coffee table, trying not to make too much noise.
"Here let me help you," Liam offered, gathering up the rest of the rubbish.
"That's ok, you don't have to."
"I don't mind," he smiled.
"So, how was your day?" Liam asked once they were in the kitchen. "Fine," she lied. "I had a lot of homework." He simply nodded.
As she began washing down the plates she asked him, "How was your date?" Why was she asking him!? It's not like she wanted to know, entirely.
"I didn't go," he said, making her head spin around. "What? But, you guys left together."
"I just drove her home," he told her, an almost sad expression on his face as he watched her.
He just drove her home? All that time she had spent wondering where they were, what they were doing and the whole time he was - wait. If he just drove her home then what was he doing the whole time? Oh who cares, he didn't date Jennifer!
"I told you Bella, I don't want to date Jennifer," he muttered, weirding her out for a second that maybe he could read her mind. "She's not who I want," he added, avoiding her gaze and walking away.
It was like she was frozen to the spot, she couldn't move. What had he meant by that, she asked herself? Did he mean her? Could she be who he wanted? She didn't know what to think? The amount of times she had gotten her hopes up wishing it were her he was talking about and every time it turned out not to be. So then why did it feel different this time?
