“So I was thinking” I turned my attention on Beau. “That because you only knows things from what people have told you, let’s go and find out the hard way” Beau grinned, he obviously had a plan in his head. “I’m going to take you to three different places around town and you’re going to try three different types of food” He said.
“You’re going to make me eat how much food?” I asked, shocked a little. I know one thing for sure and that’s that I don’t eat loads.
“We’ll just order side dishes. And I’m paying!” He said, jumping up and already rushing towards the door. I thought for a moment and frowned.
“But I don’t have a key to lock the door” I sighed, but Beau just grinned at me. He put his hand in a bowl that was next to him and held up a key. “Um, also. We can’t leave just yet” I said, looking down at my pyjamas I was still wearing. “Hold on” And then I was up the stairs already trying to find something of Ruby’s I could wear. She had left my suitcase of clothes in the car which she had taken. I settled for a green flowy top, with a pair of black skinny jeans. On my feet I just wore a pair of black flats.
“What was wrong with the hoodie you were wearing?” Beau had a slight frown upon his lips.
“What did it say jano-what?” I furrowed my eyebrows not knowing.
“Janoskians” He laughed, and took hold of my hand leading me out of the house. I locked the door behind me and Beau told me how the three places were in walking distance. Beau had let go of my hand now as we walked side by side. We were close enough that our hands lightly brushed against each other.
“So you liked the Janoskians hoodie? Whatever that even means” I scrunched up my face, indicating I didn’t think it was the nicest name for anything. Beau frowned a little, but soon after had a smile on his face.
“I can show you later today if you want” He told me, I nodded as I noticed we were approaching a small store. Once at the door Beau held the door open like the gentleman he is and soon joined me by my side straight after. We sat at an empty table together and we both immediately started looking through the menu. As I read, it became rather obvious quickly that this was a sushi place. “I’ve never had sushi before, and I’ve wanted to for a while. I thought it would be a great place to start” Beau told me honestly, and I smiled.
“We’ll see if we like it soon enough” I giggled. I read through the menu reading names that I couldn’t tell what it consisted of until I read the description. “I’m just going to order at random, I don’t think I could eat an octopus whilst knowing I’m eating an octopus” I said, putting the menu down. We ordered our food and Beau started to look worried.
“Maybe I should have thought this through first. I don’t exactly have the best stomach around” He sighed. I raised an eyebrow at him, giving him a questioning look. “I’m known to throw up a lot” He stated.
“And how much is a lot?” I asked, as we waited for our sushi.
“That depends. I don’t throw up eating normal food, it’s just when it comes to things you wouldn’t normally eat” He rested his arms on the table watching me. “Oh, and milk” He said.
“Milk?” I laughed, not really having heard of someone vomiting after drinking milk.
“I did the rainbow milk challenge. I think you should try and do it. It’s really fun” He grinned.
“Care to explain?”
“You have a 3 litre bottle of milk, you use any food colouring of your choosing and you drink as much as you can as fast as you can. The idea of it is to throw the milk back up, but because of the food colouring you end up making a colourful mess of vomit” I must have pulled a disgusted face because Beau reassured me and told me how it was actually really fun. “I’ll even do it again if it means getting to see you do it”
“Purposely vomiting doesn’t sound that fun, but what the heck? I don’t know what I do and don’t think as fun” I shrugged and just then our food was placed on the table in front of us. There were a number of plates and Beau and I would take it in turns to pick a plate for the other to eat. “You pick first, I really want to try something” I smiled, looking down at the 6 plates in front of us. Each plate had the name of the sushi on a piece of paper, which didn’t help us determine what the food was.
“I think you should eat this one first” He pointed at a plate with 3 white pieces of some sort of sushi on. I picked a piece up and brought it to my nose, thinking maybe the smell would make it easier for me to eat. But I had totally forgotten that the smell of fish wasn’t one of the nicest smells. I put it in my mouth and started chewing. It was a strange texture in my mouth, but the taste was okay. It wasn’t the most delicious food I had tried, but it also wasn’t the worst. Beau had a look of disgust on his face, but I gave him the thumbs up. Once I finished chewing and had swallowed I picked up another of the pieces of sushi and ate that too.
“This one tastes good” I sighed with happiness. I then pointed to pink little rectangles that looked nice. “I don’t think this will taste bad at all” I smiled, wanting to try one myself. Beau picked one of the two up and put it straight into his mouth. For a couple of seconds he just kept it in his mouth, not chewing or anything. When he finally started chewing he put his thumbs up to me.
“It tastes just like shrimp. You should try it” He said, pushing the plate closer to me. I didn’t have an idea what shrimp tasted like so I put the last one into my mouth and started chewing. The taste was indescribable. I couldn’t find the words, it just tasted so amazing. We tried the rest of the sushi, realising that what we found out to be raw tuna chunks were not our favourites. Beau paid for the food and then we headed out of the store, he kept looking at his phone and typing away at it.
“I don’t think we have time for the other places. How about we try something new each day so I can help figure out what you do and don’t like?” Beau asked, looking up from his phone.
“I would like that” I smiled, tucking a piece of my long dark hair behind my ear.
“What’s your favourite colour?” Beau randomly asked as we headed towards a park I could see in the distance. I hadn’t really thought of that, it didn’t seem to be an important question to know. I looked into Beau’s eyes and knew the answer immediately.
“Green” I sighed with happiness. He nodded and then we walked the rest of the way in silence. A comfortable silence.
“Are you okay with meeting the guys? I don’t want to overwhelm you, especially with your memory loss” Beau looked at me with concern.
“It’ll be alright, if they’re friends it’ll be okay” I replied and soon we were sat on a bench in the park waiting for his friends to turn up. Beau was tapping away at his phone again, and I just was left to my own thoughts. I had only met Beau this morning and it already felt as if I’ve known him my whole life. We get along so well. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard loud voices coming towards Beau and I. I looked up into the distance and instantly recognised Jai. I waved to him and gave him a hug.
“What are you doing here Fae?” Jai asked a little shocked to see me. I pointed over to Beau and smiled. “You know Beau?” He had a confused look upon his face.
“I met him today” I replied and then I looked over to the other three guys that were with Jai. I looked to the right of Jai and almost froze. The identical boy to Jai with the lip piercing was stood grinning at me. “I’ve kissed you before” I whispered, but it seemed to be loud enough for others to hear. What had Ruby said his name was? “Luke?” I cleared my throat and blushed as he laughed at me.
“How do you know that?” Jai asked me, wanting to know how I knew I had kissed Luke.
“I dreamt about it. But it wasn’t a dream, it was a memory” I explained. “I thought it was you at first, but Ruby explained to me about Luke” I said. Luke was grinning beside Jai, biting his lip ring. “Have I ever met them?” I whispered to Jai as I pointed to his two friends. He shook his head, no. Well that was a relief. Beau came and stood next to me, resting an arm on my shoulder.
“We got the milk and the food colouring Beau. Please tell me we’re not doing the rainbow milk challenge again” one of their friends said.
“Fae, this is Daniel and James” He pointed to his friends and then turned to Jai and Luke. “It seems as if you already know my brothers” He said and I nodded, feeling stupid for not knowing they were brothers. Beau then took the milk from his friend, Daniel. “I believe you agreed to do this challenge with me” He had turned his attention on me. Jai seemed to be explaining to Luke about my memory loss and James and Daniel seemed to be in their own little worlds.
“Do I have to do this in front of everyone?” I questioned, suddenly feeling a little insecure.
“Not at all” Beau told me, and handed me a bottle of milk and some green food colouring. So that’s why he wanted to know what my favourite colour was. I sat down on the grass, Beau sat next to me. I watched as Beau tipped the whole bottle of food colouring into his bottle of milk. As he shook the bottle it turned blue. I did what Beau did, as I shook my milk I watched as it turned green.
“How is it the one person I feel like I’ve known for years is the one person I only met today? I’ve known Ariana for years, but yet when I’m with her it just feels a little awkward and uncomfortable at times” I sighed, thinking back to when I first saw Ariana yesterday.
“There’s a difference. Ariana, Justin and even your sister they knew you before the accident so they’re wanting to help you remember your past. They’re trying so hard for you to remember who you were before that you can’t really be yourself around them. With me, I didn’t know you before so I can’t be missing that person you were before” He shrugged, but he made perfect sense.
“I know your brothers, but I don’t actually remember how I met them or anything. Ariana told me about how I met Jai but I honestly don’t remember. I try to think but it only makes my head hurt” I told Beau.
“Then don’t try to think, you mentioned to Jai that you had a dream of kissing Luke. It was a memory?” He questioned, just checking that he was getting it right. I nodded. “Then you’ll eventually get your memory back. You just need to stop trying. It’ll come back when you least expect” He smiled and stood up with his milk. “Now are we going to do this challenge or not?” He held the milk up to me.
“I’ll soon see if this is as fun as you make it out to be” I laughed. Beau held a hand out for me to take and he helped me off the floor. I picked the milk up and I followed Beau back over to his friends. Jai and Luke both came over to me whilst Beau talked to James and Daniel about something.
“Was that your first memory you remembered?” Luke asked me and I knew instantly that he was talking about this kiss with him. I nodded my head, blushing a little.
“Why did we do it? I remember Harry being there, and he didn’t look very happy” I said, not really knowing what else to say. That caused Jai and Luke to both roar with laughter.
“Yeah, I remember Harry was pretty jealous that night. We were playing truth or dare” Jai spoke, after he had calmed down a little to talk. “So how did you meet our brother” Jai asked, nodding his head towards Beau. My cheeks went red as I remembered that the first thing he did was kiss me.
“He came around looking for Ruby, so uh, she wasn’t home” I replied, I could feel my cheeks burning. “He thought I was Ruby” I shrugged, trying to make it less of a deal, but my cheeks were saying otherwise. Luke and Jai burst into fits of laughter again which caused the attention of the other three over.
“What’s so funny?” James asked, and I could feel my cheeks burning still.
“Uh, Beau. Shall we, uh, do this now?” I asked embarrassed as I held the milk up. But all that was running through my mind was how I wanted Beau to kiss me again. This time for real. But I knew he wouldn’t because he was dating my sister. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and I took it out to answer without checking the caller ID.
“Hello?” I spoke into the phone. Beau had started walking to a more enclosed part of the park and I was following close behind him.
“Oh thank god! Why haven’t you been answering my calls or texts?” I heard a voice shout into the phone, it took me a while to realise it was Ruby.
“Uh, sorry? I didn’t realise it was going off? It didn’t vibrate or anything” I sighed, I really didn’t understand why she was shouting at me.
“It was going straight to voice mail, you had your phone off?” She yelled at me.
“No. I’ve had it on this whole time” I frowned, Beau looked back at me with a questioning look.
“You must not have had signal. Where are you anyway?” She suddenly seemed calmer.
“I’m at a park” I replied. “Don’t worry I’m with Beau” I added.
“Beau? As in my Beau? That’s why he’s blew me off?” She sounded upset.
“What?” I didn’t realise Beau and Ruby had plans today.
“Nothing. Just come home” She sounded angry now.
“I’ll come back when I want to” I told her.
“You don’t remember anything. So come home” Her tone of voice was harsh.
“Just because I can’t remember my past, that doesn’t make me a child. So please stop treating me like one!” I yelled into the phone and hung up instantly. Beau gave me that same questioning look, as if waiting for me to tell him who it was. “Ruby’s mad at me” I sighed. “How well do you know her?” I asked, sitting down on the grass where I was.
“Not very. I’ve only been on a couple of dates with her. And even then it was only to the movies or something. We haven’t actually spoken much. She doesn’t like to talk. It’s either take her somewhere where she doesn’t have to talk to me or we make out” He replied, he looked a little sad. “I really wanted to get to know her, because she seemed like a great girl. But now I’m not so sure” He replied, looking into my eyes.
“Well if anything she appears to have a short temper” I gave a weak smile. “But you might want to apologise for ditching her for me” I told him. “She’s really not happy about that”
“I ditched her for someone who actually wanted my time, someone who actually wanted to talk to me. I don’t care what we talk about. You’ve made the effort to want to talk to me. And that makes me want to spend my time with you instead of her” Beau admitted truthfully.
“That’s fair I guess” I smiled, I looked down at the milk bottle. “Are we actually going to end up doing this?” I laughed a little. Beau stood up and started drinking his milk, so I started drinking mine as I stayed sitting down.
