They woke up to sunlight pouring through the windows. It felt nice. They hadn't felt this for a long time. Michelle took little things like this, away from them. She might be planning on how to get back at Brittany at this very moment, but she wasn't here was she?
There was a knock on the door. Nothing majorly loud, so they didn't worry much. Gabe got up to answer the door this time. he saw a total stranger at the door.
"Excuse me, but does Chance Taylor live here by any chance?" the stranger asked. Gabe nodded to him.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" Gabe said. The man looked very nervous, and he fidgeted a little.
"I - um, I need to speak to him. It's important. My name's Edward." the man said. Gabe motioned for him to come in. Chance looked up and looked confused.
"Hi, who are you?" Chance asked. The man looked really nervous. Chance waited for him to answer, he looked confused. The man finally decided to answer.
"Chance, yes, I know your name. Um, I'm Edward. Your mom didn't want to tell you who I am. But, you're not going to see me any time soon, or her, so I wanted to tell you. It's been too long anyway. I'm your... real father... I know you either don't belive me, or you're really nervous and shocked. Me too, but I just wanted to meet you since it's been 15 years. I'm sorry." Edward said to Chance. Chance's eyes got big.
"Wait! You're my real dad, that makes no sense. Where did you go after I was born? You have to explain this whole thing to me. I don't get this." Chance said, his eyes filling with tears. Edward looked okay, but his eyes were filled with tears too.
"I know, this is a lot to take in. I will explain. I'm sorry, Chance. I should've come sooner, but your mom..." Edward said. Chance nodded, and let the tears come. Brittany held his hand, and she tried to let him know that she was there for him.
"I was there when you were born. That's what you really wanted to know. I was there, I promise you that. I know this is a lot, and I'm so sorry for this all, but I couldn't tell you earlier. Your mother... I guess we should start there." Edward paused, "Okay, she was a good girl, and I'm sure she still is, I haven't seen her since the day you were born. You were so small, and I only got to hold you once. Your big brown eyes, you were adorable. But, she didn't want me near you. I held you once, and she screamed at me to let you go. I didn't do anything to you, I promise. She didn't want me anywhere near you. I don't want to tell you this..." he said. Chance looked up at him, still crying. Edward couldn't hide any more from Chance. Not now.
"Okay.... Your mother didn't want a child, she never wanted you, and I did. I wanted a child, and she didn't. She was going to put you into adoption, but when I first held you, was when I was trying to get you away. I - I just..." he took a breath.
"After your mom won, and got you. I was forced to leave, and I went and packed my things. I left, and waited years. I heard about every award you got, and I kept every picture of you that was in the paper. I just, I never got to see you, until I heard you left three years ago. Then, I searched to find you after a year. I never did, until I met a girl named Krissi. She helped me find you. I'm sorry. I can't imagine how you feel right now." Edward said. Chance didn't say anything. He was in shock. But, he finally built up some nerve to talk to Edward.
"You tried to take me so I would be in a place where someone wanted me? You paid attention to the things I accomplished after you had to leave? You wanted to see me?" Chance said through tears. Edward looked at Chance and nodded. Chance had found his real father.
Chance got up and embraced his dad, and for the first time in his life, Chance felt safe. He couldn't believe his real dad had come all this way to find him. He couldn't believe he had found his real dad in general. This was amazing.
