Chance was still trying to get over the shock of finding out he had been living with an adopted dad for years. And, his mom didn't even want him? This was a lot to take in, but he was living it, so he had to suck it up.
"Umm, mind us? Hello, I'm Gabe. Chance's best friend." Gabe said. It's always Gabe who has that kind of stuff to say.
"Oh! Hello Gabe, sorry... um, and who's everyone else?" Edward asked. Madison felt kind of confused, but she hid it pretty well.
"Hi! I'm Madison. I'm Chance's best friend's girl friend. If that makes any sense!" Madison said, giggling. Edward laughed.
"Hi Madison. I'm Edward. I assume you're Gabe's girl?" Edward said. Madison nodded. Brittany stood up, and smiled.
"Hello! I'm Brittany, I'm Chance's girlfriend." Brittany said. Edward looked kind of shocked.
"Wait, you are Chance's girlfriend? I didn't think Chance would ever be with anyone from Michelle's family." he said, in almost digust. Chance didn't look happy anymore.
"Wait, what? Did you just say that to her? No, you don't tell her any of that stuff, she's had enough to deal with. She doesn't have to deal with you on top of it. If you want me to get to know you, you have to accept Brittany too. If you can't do that, you're not getting anywhere near me." Chance said, defensively.
Edward didn't look happy at all. He hated Michelle's family for no reason, and it aggravated Chance.
"Look, I am sorry. But, please, if you want to get to know me after 15 years, you have to know that Brittany is nothing like Michelle. There's a lot to explain, but you have to accept her if you want to hear it, dad...." Chance said, softening his tone.
Edward nodded, and glanced at Brittany with an unsure look.
"Okay, first, thank you for accepting Brittany the best you can right now. But, you have to hear the whole story from three years ago." Chance said. He continued to explain what had happened three years ago. What happened when Brittany and Chance first met, and all after that. Edward had to know all of it.
After Chance finished, Edward wouldn't look at him.
"I asked you to listen. You listened, and that's all I asked, now are you going to accept Brittany? Or not?" Chance asked, with little hope in his voice. Edward shook his head no. He was disappointed in Chance's decisions made in the fifteen years. Chance looked at Brittany, and slipped his hand into hers. Edward got up, and left. He only said one thing as he left. He said, "No, I was wrong." and he left. Never to come back.
"I'm sorry." Chance said. Brittany looked at him in disbelief.
"Why are you sorry? It's just him. If anyone should say sorry, it's him. I'm sorry Chance...." she said, her voice trailing off. Nobody said anything after that. Gabe and Madison left, and wanted Chance to soak this all in. This was hard, and they wanted Chance to take it the best he could. This wasn't going to blow over well. For any of them. The last thing they needed was for Edward to hold a grudge like Michelle.
Chance didn't say anything. Neither did Brittany. Brittany just wanted him to take it in the best he could. She had been in a similar situation before. She lived with her step dad for years, then she found her biological dad, and she met him in person once. Only once, and never again. She missed him, but she knew she'd probably never see him again. So, she wanted to help Chance out the best she could.
She leaned her head on his shoulder and he embraced her. His face was wet with tears, but he didn't care. He just wanted her close.
"I'm so sorry, Brittany. I just met my real dad, and I can't believe he'd treat you like that. I'm so sorry." he said still letting the tears flood down his face. Brittany looked at him with big green eyes.
"Don't apologize to me! It's him, not you." she said, and kissed his cheek.
"Okay, but I still feel bad for the way he treated you. I'm sorry on his behalf, even though he probably doesn't feel sorry. I am nothing like him." he said. She smiled.
"That's a lie. You may not act anything like him, but you do have his cheekbones. And freckles." she said giggling. He laughed.
"Yeah, I guess. How do you make me laugh when I was bawling my eyes out?" he asked. She shrugged and smiled.
"I guess it's just who I am." she said. He grinned, and pressed his ips on hers. It felt nice to have someone there for him as he went through a struggle of his own. She snuggled closer to him after they drew back.
"Are you okay?" she asked him. He nodded. She accepted it, but she knew he wasn't okay. He laid down beside her, and she laid her head on his chest. Nothing was said. It was just silence in the apartment. But, that was okay. It felt good.
