It turns out that not all the victors came to the Capitol; there was only two or three from each district. Katniss is swarmed by everyone at the dinner, wanting to feel the baby kick or ask her loads of questions. Of course we didn't want to seem rude but Katniss shoots me a look that tells me that she has had enough of them and wants them to leave her alone. So eventually I shout at them to leave her alone. President Paylor and Plutarch join us for the dinner which consists of chicken in a creamy orange sauce and other delicious delicacies.
The next two days consist of Katniss and I spending time together in the training centre. We mainly sit with arms wrapped around each other on the roof or couch telling each other stories. On the morning of the third day I wake up from a horrible nightmare which consisted of me having to watch Katniss be tortured to death. I sit up in bed breathing heavily, telling myself that it isn't real. I think about waking Katniss up but when I glance over at her, I forget about it. The look on her face tells me that a nightmare isn't haunting her and that she is actually having a peace full sleep so I decide to let her enjoy her sleep for once plus it is her birthday. I glance over at the clock which tells me that it is half pat nine. I want to do something special for Katniss today. I quickly throw my legs out of bed and head into the kitchen.
Within an hour a picnic basket is sitting on the side filed with delicious treats along with a blanket.
"Would you like another blanket Mr Mellark" After the war Paylor had all the Avox's fitted with voice box's which are fitted around their necks so then they could speak.
"No thank you" I reply and the avox walks off to get busy with other jobs. I take the basket up onto the roof with the blanket and quickly get everything set up.
"What is the surprise" A very eager Katniss asks me as we climb the stairs to the roof where the picnic is laid out.
"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you"
"I don't like surprises"
"You will like this one though"
I cover her eyes with my hands and lead her over to where the blanket is.
"Happy Birthday Mrs Mellark" I say in a posh tone. She giggles and turns around.
"Why thank you Mr Mellark" She replies in her poshest tone. I laugh and plant a small kiss onto her lips. We sit down on the blanket under the apple tree and I get us both a portion of lamb stew with dried plums. Katniss' favourite. Katniss practically shoves the whole bowl down her within seconds where I am only halfway through mine when she is helping herself to thirds.
"Sorry but it is just so delicious" She says between spoonful’s. I laugh.
"There is no need to be sorry for it; it is your birthday anyway. Plus you do have to eat for two people"
When all the lamb stew is gone I get out some cheese buns that I made yesterday along with a large bottle full of orange juice. We sit cuddled up together, enjoying each other’s comfort. The only noise we hear is the noise from the streets below us. Roaring traffic, bellowing people, laughing children. The list is endless.
"Peeta, you're going to be a wonderful daddy" I smile at the thought. I can't wait to be a dad; I can imagine Willow being a baker, hunter and a painter. Shooting arrows with Katniss, and baking and painting with me. When I was little I used to think babies fell from the sky and if you wanted one all you had to do was look up into the sky and shout 'Baby.' I laugh at the thought.
"What are you laughing at" Katniss asks with curiosity.
"When I was little I used to think babies fell from the sky and if you wanted one all you had to do was look up into the sky and shout 'Baby'" Katniss shakes her head laughing.
"I love you Peeta Mellark"
"I love you too Katniss Mellark" I reply whilst planting a kiss onto her head.
As it is Katniss' birthday dinner that night consisted of more Lamb stew, other side dishes and a chocolate cake that I had made. Effie, Venia, Octavia and Flavus join us to celebrate Katniss' birthday and by the looks off it they all are super excited to be here.
After we finish dinner everyone hands their presents to Katniss. Clothes, ornaments, chocolate, candy. I wait till last, so when everyone is finished I get out the present from my pocket and hand it to her.
"Oh, Peeta it is beautiful. Thank you." I smile. I got her a real silver necklace with a heart on. The heart has diamonds inside and it says 'I love you with all my heart.'
"You welcome" I Reply.
"Can you please put it on me"
She lifts her hair up whilst I fasten the necklace around her neck.
"There you go beautiful" I say when I am finished.
"Thank you" She smiles. I lean over and give her a small kiss.
"I don't know whether I am ready for this. I mean I don't really want to talk about the games again" Katniss says while we are waiting for Caesar to finish the interview with the remaining victors from District 11. I take hold of her hand.
"Katniss, we will do this together, okay?" She sighs.
The hour rushes by and soon enough we are greeted onto the stage by Caesar.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the victors from District 12, Haymitch Abernathy and of course the star crossed lovers, Katniss and Peeta Mellark" Everyone cheers when we walk on stage and I can feel Katniss' grip on my hand getting tighter and tighter with each step we take towards the chairs.
"Don't worry" I whisper.
"Welcome, welcome. How are you all" Caesar asks as we take our seats.
"Fine" Haymitch grumbles. I can tell he is not very happy to be here right now as well.
"We’re good" I reply for Katniss as well as myself.
"Good. Not long now is it"
"No" Katniss says with slight smile. I can tell she is excited but nervous at the same time.
"How long now"
"Four and a half months"
"Is it a girl or a boy" Caesar seems overly excited.
"It is a girl" I reply.
"Have you got a name for her?"
"Willow" Katniss and I say in unison.
"So, I can guess you know why you are here in the Capitol. What do you think of it?"
"I don't exactly know, a slight part of me feels happy. Happy that we are destroying the things which brought horror upon our country, but another part of me feels angry that we are being brought here to remember our living nightmares" I say.
"Hmm, ok. And how do you feel about that Haymitch"
"Peeta said it perfectly" Haymitch replys.
The interview drags on, Caesar asking up questions again about our time in both arenas.
"Now, if you don't mind me asking this one last question. How do you all feel about Panem now" He asks us.
"I feel it is a safer country for, not just the children to live in but the adults too. We are free" Katniss replies.
"Before I let you go, I heard it was somebody's birthday yesterday." Caesar says looking at Katniss.
"Yeah" She laughs.
"Well I think that we should all sing happy birthday to her for yesterday" The crowd goes wild, cheering and clapping.
We all sing a traditional birthday song to her that everyone in Panem sings on birthdays, it is an old song but it has a lot of meaning to people’s lives on their birthday.
