Peeta left at 12:00 to go to the bakery and then to meet Beetee at the train station so while he is gone I tidy up and make sure everything is looking presentable. The last time I saw Beetee was the day I was supposed to assassin Snow. We did invite him to our wedding but he couldn’t make it. We have been given news that there is a mandatory speech on the television later so I make a note to myself so I don’t forget. Annie and Finley left this morning along with my mother. I head upstairs into the room where my mom was staying and strip the bed and tidy things up a bit. I then head into the room Annie and Finley were staying in and do the same and I get some clean bed sheets out of the cupboard and make the bed up again, ready for Beetee.
Soon enough I hear the front door open and close so I walk downstairs to greet Peeta and Beetee.
""Hey Beetee" I smile. I greet him with a friendly hug.
"Hello Katniss, how have you been" He asks me.
"Not bad" He smiles.
I walk up to Peeta and give him a hug. I breathe in the warm bakery scent that surrounds him.
I lead him into the kitchen along with Peeta and sit down at the table with them. Beetee soon brings up a subject that I didn't want to go anywhere near.
"Paylor wants to destroy all the arenas" he says. I sigh and lean into my chair. Even thinking of the games makes me feel sick.
"She also said that she would like all the remaining, living Victors to be in the Capitol when it happens, especially you two"
"Is this what the mandatory speech is going to be about tonight" Peeta asks.
"I presume so” Beetee replies. Peeta glances over at me.
"Katniss are you ok" '
"I would rather not talk about the games"
Even though the games ended a couple of years ago, I don't want to talk about them. They bring back bad memories that I would rather not relive. I get up and make us all a drink while Beetee talks to Peeta about the physics project he is planning to do with the kids at the school. He seems really excited about it and thinks the kids are going to love it. The kettle takes forever to boil but once I hear the click I pour the water into three cups along with a tea bag and two sugar cubes into mine and Beetee's. Once I have finished the drinks I place them onto a tray along with some cookies that Peeta baked yesterday and I place the tray onto the table. I hand Peeta and Beetee their drink before sitting back down with mine.
"Thank you Katniss" Beetee says politely. I just give him a short smile. The front door bangs open so Peeta and I hurriedly make our way down the hallway to find Haymitch standing there. A gust of wind blows into the hallway which makes me shiver to the bone.
"Sorry, I slipped" He murmurs. He walks into the kitchen. Peeta shuts the door.
"Since when has Haymitch ever apologized" I ask him as we make our way down the hallway.
"Since now" Peeta laughs. Hatmitch and Beetee are already deep into a conversation when we walk into the kitchen so I just help Peeta get dinner ready. I grab the spaghetti, tomatoes, onions and peppers out of the pantry. Peeta makes the sauce whilst I put the spaghetti into a pan and onto the cooker to cook. When everything is cooked I help Peeta dish everything up and put the plates onto the table. I tuck into my meal and it doesn't take long for me to finish it. Peetas sauce is just too tasty.
Soon after we head into the lounge to watch the mandatory speach on the television. I sit down and take hold of Peeta's hand. He turns the TV on and the Capitol seal appears and fades away with Presidant Pylor on the balcony overlooking the Capitol citizens. They all have to work now every single one of them. I will give that to Paylor, she is a fair leader.
"They sit there empty, holding the souls of the many tributes whom died within their walls. They will be destroyed. A week from now there will be a special airing, we will destroy all 75 of the arenas which brought horror too our country and people"
There is a lot of clapping and cheering from the citizens who stand below the balcony. The Capitol seal appears again and Peeta turns the TV off. It isn't long after when Peeta goes to answer the phone. I just sit there thinking that line President Paylor said,
"They sit there empty, holding the souls of the many tributes whom died within their walls"
I think of all the souls which are trapped inside the walls of all 75 arenas. No one deserved to play their brutal, fatal game. No one.
