As I walked through the alleyway that led to my street as I did every day after school, Luke swirled through my mind, consuming my thoughts.
I was so concentrated on thinking that I didn't hear Michael land beside me.
" What are you thinking so hard about? " he asked, making me jump.
I glanced up and relief washed over me. I mean, 3 weeks without seeing my literal angel made me worry.
" Michael! " I exclaimed and threw my arms around him.
He chuckled lightly. " Missed me that much, huh? "
I shrugged and let go. " Well I mean, you tell me I am the reason that Eternity will end and then I don't hear from you for 3 weeks. That's scary. "
" I'm sorry. " he said quietly.
I nodded and continued walking to my house, just slower. I wanted to talk to Michael.
" So you never answered my question. " he said after a few moments of silence.
I looked up at the sky. It was grey and it looked as if it were about to storm.
" I was just thinking about someone I met today. " I replied.
I could practically hear Michael's smirk as he mimicked a girl voice.
" Oh my gosh, is it a so totally cute guy?! "
I rolled my eyes, " Yes, actually, and his name is Luke. "
That shut him up.
We walked the rest of the way to my house in silence, but a comfortable silence.
When we arrived to my house I immediately knew that something was wrong. My mother was sitting on the steps crying, the door behind her wide open.
I glanced at Michael worriedly who just shrugged.
I motioned for him to follow me as we walked quietly past my mom. When we walked in, my heart dropped to my stomach.
Harry's mother, Anne, was sitting down on the couch. She was clutching a tissue and I could see tears at the corners of her eyes.
" Anne? " I called, my voice cracking.
She looked up and a single tear rolled down her cheek.
" A-Anne what's wrong? " I asked shakily, suddenly feeling anxious.
She patted the couch next to her and I looked back at Michael, who nodded.
I sat down beside her and she wrapped her hand around mine.
" Jaycee.... Harry was driving to the store.. your mom called him and in the midst of his distraction...h-he got into a crash... " she said.
This isn't happening, this is a dream..
" He's okay right?! " I practically screamed.
She took a deep breath.
" He's in the hospital...the doctor says he doesn't know when he will wake up. "
I stood up quickly.
" He's in a coma?! " I scream-asked before falling to the floor, sobs wracking through me.
All I remember is two strong arms wrapping around me so gently and being carried up the stairs to my bed.
When I awoke, the two arms where still wrapped around my body and I was pressed against someone's bare chest.
I shifted to sit up and realized the person was Michael. He looked like a kitten while he was asleep, so I let him be.
I rolled out of my bed and suddenly I remembered how I got here and why I felt like I had cried for years.
And the tears came back.
I leaned against the wall as they began streaming down my face. I slid down the wall and pulled my knees up to my chest as sobs began to escape my mouth.
I tried to stay quiet so Michael wouldn't wake up, but I guess I failed since he began shuffling around.
I buried my face in my knees and began full on sobbing. I heard Michael sit down beside me before I felt his arms pull me into his lap.
He hand one arm snaked around my back and the other around my waist in the front, kind of holding me like a baby.
I sobbed onto his shoulder and he rubbed my back, trying to calm me down.
" I-I'm sorry " I hiccuped.
" For what? " he whispered.
I sniffled and looked up at him.
" I woke you up... "
He smiled softly. " My mortal needed me. "
