Deep breaths Jaycee, deep breaths, I told myself as I bolted through the back alley on my way home. My mother would kill me for being late, if the thug chasing me doesn't kill me first.
I glanced behind me to see that the bald man had disappeared. I let out a sigh and slowed my pace to a walk. Pulling out my phone, I checked the time.
Shit. I'm so dead. I picked up my pace again and ran through the front doors of my house. We where considered 'rich' in my community. I never liked the idea of posh, fu-fu crap.
" Jaycee Alexandra Davis! Where on god's green earth have you been?! The part is starting in 10 minutes young lady! " my mom scolded as I stepped into the living room.
I rolled my eyes. " I was being chased, not that you would care anyways. "
She shook her head at me and motioned to the stairs. " Go put on your party gown. "
I scowled as I trudged up the stairs. I hated having to seem fancy all the time, It was stupid. My mom said I disgraced the family when I dressed like I normally do, skinny jeans and a t-shirt.
Slamming my door shut, I flopped down on my bed and let out a groan. I felt paws climb on top of my stomach and I looked down to see my kitten, Loki. Yeah, I like avengers, get over it.
" Hey little furball. " I said quietly as I petted his black fur.
He meowed in amusement and I sat up, hearing the door open quietly.
" Knock knock. " I heard a thick Cheshire accent say,
" Come in Haz. " I said.
He peeked his full head of curls in and smiled, his dimples showing. I returned the gesture as he walked into my room.
" Anything I can help you with Miss Jaycee? "
" Harry, how many times do I have to say it? Just call me Jaycee. I don't like treating you like a servant. " I replied.
" But I am a ser- "
" I know, I know. But still. " I said, cutting him off.
He smiled and sat next to me on the bed.
" So how was your day? " he asked. I always enjoyed his company, even though he wasn't supposed to talk to me.
" Eh. " I shrugged. " I almost got jumped by this bald guy. "
His eyes went wide. " What? "
I giggled. " You act like it's the first time. I've gone through it before. For some reason I always get away. "
He sunk back on the bed so he was staring at the ceiling. Loki climbed out of my lap and over to him, curling up in a ball on his chest.
" Maybe you have a guardian Angel. " he joked.
I rolled my eyes. There was a knock at my door before a maid spoke loudly.
" The party starts in 5 minutes, Miss! " she shouted.
My eyes went wide. I looked at Harry who was already up and handing me my dress. I thanked him and he turned around while I slipped into it.
I was used to changing around Haz, we had been close friends ever since we where little. His mom was a cook in our kitchen. I hated that he was a servant, I always talked about getting him to be free one day. He always told me that was rubbish.
" Done. " I said and he turned to sip it up.
I heard classical music begin playing downstairs, causing my heart beat to quicken. The party was starting and I so wasn't ready.
" Hair? " Harry asked.
I sighed and looked in the mirror.
" Boring and straight will have to do for tonight. " I said, slipping on uncomfortable heels and walking out of my room, Harry following.
I made my way downstairs and was greeted by many of my mom's friends. They all called me by my middle name, Alexandra, which bothered me to hell and back.
I reached my mother, who was talking to some dude I didn't know. She faked a smile towards me and introduced me to the guy.
" Jeremy, this is Alexandra. Alexandra, this is Jeremy. " she said.
" My name is Jaycee. " I stated bluntly to my mother.
I glanced at the Jeremy guy and recognized him as the bald man that was chasing after me earlier.
" You.. " I said, backing away.
He raised his eyebrow, playing dumb. I shook my head and tried to blink him away.
" Alexandra what has gotten into you? Say hello to Mr. Jeremy. " my mom said, slightly annoyed.
I shook my head again and continued to back away. No no no.. he knows where I live now!! I backed away until I bumped into someone's chest.
" Hey! "
I whipped around to see a lilac-haired boy. Around my age of 17 or 18. I had accidentally made him spill his drink on the front of his shirt. Was that a Sum 41 shirt?!
" Sorry.. " I muttered. I needed to get out of here.
I rushed outside into the garden. It was my getaway. I always found peace and relaxation here.
I sat down on the swing-my swing-and swayed gently. I was so sick of this stupid stuck up life. I just wanted to be normal.
" Psst. " someone whispered.
I turned and saw the Sum boy standing next to me.
" Uh..hi? " I said, more like asked.
He smiled. " I'm Michael. "
He stuck out his hand. I shook it and glanced at his shirt which now seemed completely mess-free.
" I'm Jaycee...sorry about your shirt and all. "
He shrugged. " It's cool. You like Sum 41? "
I smiled and nodded.
He crossed his arms and smirked. "Prove it, what's your favorite song by them? "
I rolled my eyes. " Why should I prove myself to you? "
" Fine, guess you're not a real fan. " he taunted.
" In Too Deep. " I stated.
" Really? I like that one a lot too! " he said.
I laughed and we spent the majority of the night outside talking about everything from bands to school to even what our favorite colors where.
It was almost 10:00 p.m. when Harry came out into the garden. He looked somewhat angry and that scared me. Haz hardly ever got angry.
" Jaycee your mother has been worried sick about you! She said you walked out here talking to yourself or something. "
I raised my eyebrow and turned to Michael, who just shrugged.
" What are you even doing out here? " Harry asked, calming down a bit.
" Talking to Michael. " I said, gesturing towards the lilac-haired boy.
Harry looked at me blankly.
" Who? "
" Michael. " I said, pointing this time at him.
" Jaycee are you playing a prank on me or something? " Harry asked, backing away slowly.
I shook my head, dumbfounded. Michael was right there!
" There is no one there.. "
