16. Back home

**Riya's P.O.V.**

As we walked back to town, everyone had dispersed. It was so strange how everyone hates us for comng out alive. You'd think that it would be a good thing that we survived... But, this was just the start of it. We would be spending weeks, and months trying to get our wounds cleaned up.

Kye's hand holding mine, we walked farther into town. The only person that was outside their house was a little girl with dark brown hair, and deep blue eyes. She was just sitting in a swing on a tree in her yard. As we passed, the little girl's mother came rushing out to bring her inside.

"We're not serial killers! Do you think we wanted to kill our closest friends?" I thought as I looked down at the ground. We approached my house, and Kye started to pull his hand from mine.

"No, you can come in. My parents can't do anything now." I said, and grasped his hand again.

He nodded, and I tried to open the door. It was locked. My mother peered out the window, and shook her head. The door opened, and she stodd there. Her face was expressionless, and blank.

"Mom... Could I come in?....." I said, and my voice trailed off into nowhere. She nodded, and stepped away, saying nothing. I walked in to see my dad stading there, almost in horror.

"How- Riya? You're.... alive..... Kye too?...... Oh my god........." he said.

I said nothing. My mind was running elsewhere, and it was not focused on the fact that I was standing at home. My parents said nothing else to me, so I walked up to my room. Kye followed me.

"This is my room." I said, as I gestured to a small room with black painted walls, and a gray ceiling. My room had thick purple curtains, and a dark wood floor. It wasn't exactly a cheery room, but walking in it after so long felt good. The smell of my candles on my night stand filled my nose, and I smiled. It was good to be home.

I stepped over my CD's on the ground, and laid down on my bed. Kye laid beside me, and smiled.

"Nice to be home?" he asked.

"Yeah. I missed my room a lot. I especially missed my music." I said.

He laughed, and closed his eyes for a moment. I closed my eyes too, and I started to drift to a long needed slumber.

**Kye's P.O.V.**

I had fallen asleep, but when I woke up, I saw Riya asleep beside me. I was okay, but my arm really hurt. After all that had happened during the testing, I was kind of surprised that I was still alive at all.

Riya stirred, and then opened her eyes. Her eyes were bright.

"Did I fall asleep?" she asked, her voice almost cracking. She was exhausted.

"Yeah. It's okay, though. You really need the sleep." I said, trying to seem kind. I felt like I was a mass murderer at the moment, because of the testing. All the lives I had taken haunted me, and it hadn't even been a day since it had ended.

She looked at me kindly. She laid her head on my chest, and closed her eyes again.

The door suddenly opened, and her mother walked into the room.

"What's going on here? I know you two have been through a lot, but that doesn't mean you should.... Explain. Now." she said, harshly.

Riya opened her eyes, and tried to comprehend what had just happened.

"Explain." her mother said, again.

"Mom, it's nothing. I fell asleep." Riya said, annoyed.

I rolled my eyes.

"She's not lying. She fell asleep, and so did I. After what we went through, do you honestly think we'd be up for anything? We're exhausted, and covered in scars, and scabs. Okay?" I said.

Her mom nodded, and left. There was whispering in the hall, but after that, nothing happened. We both drifted back to sleep, and tried to excape the pain for a few hours. The good thing about sleep, is you can escape the pain.

When we woke again, there was no sunlight coming through the windows. It was dark outside already. Riya was not asleep by my side, she up and standing by the window.

"You're awake." she said. I nodded, and got up. I put my arm around her, and looked outside at the emptiness. The moon shone down, brightly. She laid her head on my shoulder, and started to cry.

"I just don't see why we had to go through that... I killed people..." she sobbed. I rested my chin on her head, and told her it was okay. She kept crying. I wished I could help her...
