After playing in the ocean and several failed attempts at building a sandcastle, Luke and I were walking along the beach searching for pretty shells.
A shiny purple/blue one caught my eye; it was spiral-ish and as far as I could see completely intact.
I held it in my hand watching the light reflect of the shell when something slimy and poky started tickling my palm.
I slowly lifted the shell screaming when I saw a little creature wiggling it's creepy legs.
I dropped the shell jumping up and down still screaming.
Luke lifted me up trying to calm me down, "you're okay, it can't get you."
I buried my face in his neck trying to hide from the disgusting wiggly thing. "That was the scariest moment if my life." I whispered wrapping my legs around his waist.
Luke chuckled still carrying me. He walked along the beach keeping a good distance between us and where I threw the inhabited shell.
When I finally allowed him to put me down the sun was near setting.
"I guess we should head back." I suggested dreading walking all the way back in the dark. I didn't know where we were or how to get home, if have trouble in broad daylight let alone in the dark.
"Are you sure you don't want to watch the sunset? You don't live that far from here."
"You live like fifteen minutes away." He led me to a clear spot in the sand-that had no shells-sitting down.
I reluctantly sat beside him double checking that there were no creepy-crawlies anywhere near us.
"So I take it that incident back there, with the shell scarred you." Luke said glancing at me.
"I'm never going to look at a shell the same way again." I shuddered. "Hell, I probably won't even be able to look at one again period."
He chuckled, "Good thing I was there to save you, or who knows what it would've done to you." He joked.
I punched him in the arm lightly before resting my head on his shoulder. "I would've died." I said honestly. "Thank you for 'saving' me, I don't know what I would've done if you weren't there."
Luke wrapped his arm around me pulling me closer as the sky started to change.
Different shades of pink, orange and red spread across the horizon, while the ocean mirrored the sky.
I could hear waves crashing against rocks as a soft wind blew against my skin sending shivers through my body.
"Are you cold?" Luke asked pulling me closer, his body heat instantly warmed me up.
Too soon the whole sky was a dark blue. Luke pulled me up, keeping me against his side so I didn't get cold?
"Do you know how to get home?" I asked.
"Of course." He pulled me toward the car park, then the footpath.
After just a few turns I was completely disoriented, I didn't know where the beach was let alone my house. How Luke managed to navigate his way around Sydney in the dark was a mystery. Hell I couldn't even do it during the day.
When buildings started to get familiar Luke stopped walking. "Can we tell people now?" His bright blue eyes were so hopeful, I didn't want to disappoint him.
I looked away "not yet."
"Because I don't want this to end, I don't want other people to ruin this."
"This won't end," he cupped my face in his hands "I like you too much, and who cares what other people think."
"Just give me a couple days, then we'll tell them. After mum gets back."
"Deal," he glanced at my lips "seal it with a kiss?" I smiled reaching up to his his smirk.
The house was lit up like a Christmas tree, I swear every light was on.
I reluctantly detached myself from Luke before entering the house.
"Where have you been?" Ashton shouted engulfing me in a hug, if you could call it that. He was squeezing so tight u could barely breathe.
He pulled back checking for injuries.
"I'm fine Ash."
"Where were you?" He repeated. "We were so worried."
"We?" I looked around seeing Michael, Cal and Savannah on the sofa with relieved faces.
"None of us could get a hold of you or Luke." Calum said.
"Sorry my cell must've been dead."
"I think I forgot mine at home." Luke said from behind me, I forgot he was still here. Shit this must look bad.
"Were you two together?" Ash asked.
"It's a simple question, were you two together or did you just coincidentally arrive here at the exact same time?"
"Ashton calm down," Savannah said resting a hand on his arm. "They're alive, in one piece. Stop freaking out."
"You're right, but that doesn't change anything." Ash said stubbornly. "You know what, mum can figure out what happened. She'll be here in a couple hours." He said before walking off.
I stood there letting what he said sink in, mum was coming home. Which meant I'd have to tell everyone about me and Luke.
