(NOTE: I wrote this two years ago for a school project. It's pretty terrible because I wrote it all the night before it was due.) Medieval Romance in which a girl leaves home, a wizard makes a deal, and a prince finds true love.

7. The Woman

The woman knew her only chance to make it to the midwife alive and save her baby was to take the short cut through the dark forest.  No one entered the woods because no one was absolutely sure what lived there.  There were rumors of witches and werewolves.  Once, a passing shepherd claimed to see a unicorn.  Despite what may or may not live among the trees, the woman entered anyway without another thought other than of her unborn child.

As the woman made her way through the woods, she tripped and fell.  It was hard, but she was able to heave herself up.  She was walking for a reason, but she couldn’t remember any more.  Her feet meandered in front of her, leading her farther and farther into the heart of the forest.  She felt sick to her stomach and there was blood dripping down her legs.  She didn’t understand what was happening.  The tall trees provided shelter from the rain and the rest of the outside world.  It was dark, but the woman kept seeing lights appear behind her eyelids.  The canopy of leaves was spinning above her.  Faster and faster it went until it suddenly became the mossy floor.  The lights were fading.  Everything was getting dark again, and it kept getting darker until only deep black filled her vision.  She couldn’t feel any pain anymore.
