(NOTE: I wrote this two years ago for a school project. It's pretty terrible because I wrote it all the night before it was due.) Medieval Romance in which a girl leaves home, a wizard makes a deal, and a prince finds true love.

1. Prologue

There had been a drought for twenty-and two days.  A fortnight ago, the clouds closed up over the land and set down upon it a storm so horrific that the parish priests were claiming it to be Great Flood.  At first the farmers and other villagers were glad for the rain, but it soon became too much.  The rivers and lakes were getting too full.  Most of the crops had already drowned.  The king was getting really worried as the kingdom pondered what great sin they had committed to deserve such bad fortune.

The drought had caused everyone to starve.  Cats and dogs could no longer be found roaming the streets for scraps.  There was no food to give.  There was no food at all.  If the poor creatures were spotted, they would be caught and cooked.  Now the water was washing away any plants that were still around.  Mothers feared for their children’s survival.  If the famine continued, the kids would either die of malnutrition or cannibalism.  People were becoming desperate.
