When the Night Changes
And that's when I hugged him. “It's been so long, Harry. How are you?”
“Well, I've been-”
Lightning shoots from no where, making us lose our embrace. A hooded figure in a long black robe flies in and chants, "Destiny! Destiny! DESTINY!" The figure sounded feminine. She lifted her hands, causing the floor from under me to open wide, and swallow me whole. I screamed for Harry, but he just stood there, not doing much of anything.
I shot up from my bed, feeling my forehead. “Damn.” I muttered under my breath. Another shower of sweat after a recurring nightmare. Great. I checked my alarm clock: 5:15 AM. I leaped from my bed, proceeding to go to my bathroom and wash my face with cold water. As I splashed icy water across my face, I began to ponder. What the hell does that recurring dream mean? I dried my face with a towel, dashed out of the bathroom, and plopped back into bed, to stare at my ceiling I painted to look like the night sky and its constellations.
Was it a bad idea to tell my mom about this? She and dad both don't know about me dating Harry. Not even Chelsea and Sarah know. Well I don't have to worry about Sarah to find out because she moved back to Virginia to go to Old Dominion University. Unfortunately, we fell out of touch after she moved during sophomore year.
Chelsea, however, is another story. She is super obsessed with this K-pop band named Exo. Before that happened, we promise each other that we would at least go to a One Direction concert before going to Indiana University.
Well, we decided to to go this year, our junior year at IU. Both of us didn't have extra cash laying around to go, but Chelsea suggested to enter a radio sweepstakes. “C'mon Chelsea!” I told her, “There's no way we're going to win those tickets. Zayn isn't even in the band anymore.” Man was I wrong...She actually won; one in a million, and she was that one in a million.
“Looks like some one owes me an apology.” She teased that Monday in the beginning of May.
Instead of sleeping 'til ten, I woke up at eight this morning. After showering, I picked out my outfit for the day: my jeans shorts, my tank top that had lace by the collar and vertical stripes with roses in between, and my Sperries with patches of pink with white polka dots. Of course, I would never forget about the necklace that Harry gave me. Well, technically I bought it, but whatever. It is sterling silver, a half heart pendant clasped around the chain, engraved with Harry's name and on the back it says 'I love you'. I emerged from my room and headed to the kitchen for breakfast, greeted by none other than the morning person herself, my mother.
“Good Morning Diana.” She says.
“Morning mom,” I mumble, still groggy from last night. “did dad leave already?”
“Yes. Did you sleep well? You don't look well.” My exhaustion has physically appeared for the entire world to see. Fucckkkk!
“I, um, did sleep well.” I lied.
"Hmm. It doesn't sound like you slept well,” She handed me a plate of pancakes. “Care to explain?” I debated in my head whether to tell her or not.
My mother looked me in the eyes. “Diana, you can tell me. I won't tell dad, I promise.”
I told my mom everything that happened in the summer of 2009. When I say everything, I mean everything. I didn't hold back.
“Oh honey,” She says, “You think your own mother couldn't tell from the necklace you wear everyday? I think it's beautiful you had your first relationship with him.”
“Thanks mom. I haven't told anyone.” My mom looked puzzled.
“Really? Not even Chelsea or Sarah?” She added.
I proceeded to wash the dishes as I told her about my recurring dream. “It seems as though your mind is trying to tell you something.”
“Am I going to fall into a black hole?” I was concerned about my future.
“Not exactly.” As she dried the dishes, she explained that maybe I will see Harry again since he is a member of One Direction. Also, the black hole in the ground most likely represents how I am feeling in my heart since we broke up. Maybe my mind doesn't trust him as an ally anymore.
I grabbed my laptop and signed into my Indiana University online classes. IU is about 20 minutes from my house, but I didn't want my weird mind to get in the way of learning, especially with the recurring dream. Plus, the semester is almost over, I'm graduating early because I took online courses since freshman year, and I had earned many college credits in high school. Call me an overachiever, but I wanted to get out of school as soon as possible.
After the excruciating five hours of Calculus BC, creative writing, and business classes, I took my lunch break. I just needed one more class to go: my anatomy class. My anatomy teacher is pretty laid back, but he wanted us to write a short story involving the human body. He said anything goes, and we don't need to hold back. Since when is he our creative writing teacher?
After turning the really shitty story I wrote, I decided to see what Chelsea was up to.
Me: hey Chelsea, you still in chem class? :P
Chelsea: duh :1
I got to go
Need to write report for my last experiment
Me: can you at least tell me when the concert is? ^-^
Chelsea: July 31.
I really got to go
Wow. July 31. I can't wait to see my baker boy again.
Sorry it took so long, but here's chapter 1 of Girl Almighty.
