3. A New Beginning

A New Beginning

I woke up refreshed and ready to start for the day.

A day I've already lived.

Gemma was gone, so I made her bed. I go into the bathroom and shower. After that, I put on a blue green T-shirt, black sweatpants, and my black and hot pink Nikes. I walked out of Gemma’s room and go into the kitchen for some breakfast. After breakfast, I found a note by the sink:

Dear Diana,

Harry and I have gone to work. Gemma has gone to university. We will be back at 15:00.  If you don’t mind, please do the chores on this note. You do not need to do our laundry, but I hope you know how to do your own. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Let’s see: Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, wash dishes. Not bad. I am glad I woke up earlier than last time. As I began to sweep the kitchen, I was thinking of my strategy here. Should I continued butterfly effecting this time period? Or should I go through everything again, including watching Harry lock lips with Stephanie?

Man I’m exhausted! I fell on the couch and I closed my eyes. A quick nap wouldn’t hurt…

“Diana? Where are you? I’m home!” I hear a door close. I open my eyes, sit up and look at the couch that has changed. Hmm. It seems I'm reliving my dreams too.  “Oh there you are!” It’s Harry! He's wearing a gray suit and blue bow tie, carrying a briefcase in his right hand. “These are for you love.” He handed me red tulips.  “Love, are you okay?”

“Oh I was just trying to remember what I was going to do after my nap.”

He put down his briefcase and sat down next to me. “How about I make us lunch? You've been quite stressed over the baby and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you or our baby.”

“Thanks Harry. ”

“Anytime. But I do need you to do one thing for me."

I was about to ask, but he had leaned in and was about to kiss me.

But I woke up.

I open my eyes and look around the room. Damn it! I hear a door close. Must be Gemma. “Hey Diana," Gemma said as she put down her backpack. "How was your day?"

“Good. I finished the chores Anne had me do and I took a nap.”

“Okay good. You mind helping me with lunch?”

“Not at all, Gemma.”

Within minutes, Anne and Harry got home and sat down to eat the lunch Gemma and I made. “So Gemma dear, how were your classes today?” Anne asked Gemma.

“Oh, they were good mum. Same as always.”

“What about you Harry? What’s going on at the bakery?”

“Well, someone was a diva and quit today…besides that-”

Gemma interrupted Harry. “Did Evelyn quit? That really isn’t like her…”

“No Gemma, Ev didn’t quit. Will you stop interrupting me, please?”

“Oh of course your highness, anything for you.” She responded sarcastically.

“Easy Gemma,” Anne said, “let Harry finish.”

“Thanks mum. As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted,” Gemma rolled her eyes. “We’re down one person and the bakery is looking for a replacement.” Harry turned towards me. “You want to work at the bakery? It’s only temporary since you’re here for six weeks. Besides, you still need a job, right?”

I started to nod my head. “Sure. I’d love to!”

“Awesome! I’ll go ask Carol on the phone when you can start.” After we finished lunch, Harry got up and went to call Carol. Anne and Gemma are cleaning up. After Harry was done calling, I walked up to him. “Harry, you just saved me the trouble of looking for a job. Thanks.”

“You’re welcome, love.”

“So,” I began, “when do I start? I already know how to bake. Do I start today?” I know the answer is no, but I still need to at least sound enthusiastic.

“Well, Carol said you can start tomorrow. You might want to get enough sleep tonight. You’ll have to wake up early.”

“Alright. Thanks again.”

He smiles and says, “Anytime love. Anytime.”

After everyone left the house, I spent the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing. Dinner time came around and I was in Gemma’s room playing Pokémon. I heard a door close, which meant that Harry must finally be home. “Diana? Where are you? I’m home.” I walk out of Gemma’s room and I am face to face with Harry. Times like this make me so tempted to just kiss the curly haired guy.

“So Diana, how was your day?”

“Well, considering that I didn’t do much today, I’d say okay.”

“Yeah, sorry you couldn’t start today. I had to walk home because my mum said she’ll be late tonight. So, want to order a pizza?”

“Sure, that’s fine. What about Gemma?”

“She works part-time at the Pizza Palace.” He goes to the phone and starts dialing. “Are you picky?”

“No, not really.” We watched TV for about an hour until there was a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it!” Harry got up and opened the door. “Thanks sis! I owe ya, but you’re not getting a tip.”

Gemma rolled her eyes. “Yeah. Yeah. You’re lucky I got out of work early because I delivered this pizza to you.”

We ate pizza, but Gemma turned in early. So it was just the two of us. Gosh, reliving this and knowing everything that might happen is giving me butterflies.“Want to watch a movie?” I look at Harry, who stared at me with his beautiful blue green eyes. Should I say no? Butterfly effect the shit out of it?

“Sure, one movie wouldn't hurt.” He smiled.

“Awesome! I knew you’d say yes.” We decided to watch Titanic. An hour into the movie, I got up from the couch.

“Well Harry I’m going to-” I stopped and looked at him. He’s knocked out cold. Right on cue. I stopped the movie and turned off the TV. “Good night Harry,” I whispered.

Wow, what a day today. I wonder what’s going to happen these six weeks. Changing my input will obviously change the output. I kept staring at Harry and kept thinking. What the fuck should I do now? I walked away and went to bed. Time travel is fucking complicated. No wonder no one has invented it. So why did I have the ability all of a sudden?

The next day

I got up early and showered. I put on black skinny jeans, a red t-shirt, and my black and hot pink Nike's. I'm glad I'm working at the bakery again. I don't know any other way I would get a job.

I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. I wanted to make breakfast for everyone, but Gemma and Anne are gone already, so I'll just make Harry breakfast.

“Hey, what time is it love?" I look up to find a very sleepy and shirtless Harry rubbing his eyes.

“It's 6:00 AM," I had been a directioner since the beginning, so it wasn't the first time I saw him shirtless. "You're going to go to the bakery like that?"

He looked down at his bare chest and pajama bottoms. "Oh, right." He let out a small laugh as he went to go get changed.

He came back a few minutes later. "Hey Harry."

"That's for you." I pointed at the breakfast I made for him.

"Oh. Thanks Diana." He sat down and started eating.

"So, when does the bakery open?"

"At 8:30 but we have to be there at 6:45 to start prepping before we open." We finished eating and I washed the dishes. “Ready?" He asked.

“Let's go." I said. As we walked, Harry told me about Nancy, carol, Evelyn, and George. They are nice people, but I have to act like I haven't met anyone before.

“We're here." He said as he opened the door. He went in first and I follow him in.

“Hey Harry! Who's your pretty friend?" It was George, a tall guy with light brown hair. I have to admit, I still blushed a little when he called me pretty. Harry introduced me.

“George, this is Diana. Diana, this is George." I shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you George." Act like you've never met him Diana.

“Nice to meet you too." He winked at me. Evelyn, a short girl with black hair walked in. Her bangs remind me of fangs.Ha, that rhyme is funnier the second time around.

“Hi! You must be Diana. My name is Evelyn, but you can call me Ev. Welcome to the bakery!" I let out a smile.

“Where's Nancy and Carol, Ev?" Harry asked.

“Well, they went out to buy more baking soda and sugar. They won't take long. Why don't you and George give Diana a tour of the kitchen while I sweep?"

“Sure." Harry said.

“This way rookie." George says as he leads me into the kitchen. George and Evelyn are pretty cool and down-to-earth. Well, they still are.

45 minutes later

Nancy and Carol got back, greeted me, and gave me an apron. George, Ev, Harry and I went  into the kitchen. “Hey, do we have any orders to fill?" Ev asked.

“Uh..nothing much. Just a baker's dozen of cookies, a cake, and two baker's dozens of doughnuts." George said.

“And that's nothing to you?!" I asked, pretending to be shocked by the order.

Harry spoke up. “Well, George and I will make the doughnuts, Ev makes the cake, and Diana makes the cookies." In no time, we got started.

Well, today's been a long day. We already baked and delivered the order. It was for a bake sale. A fucking bake sale. Lazy people...

Anyways, we were preparing dough for tomorrow when...

“Hey!! What was that for!?" Ev had thrown flour at George.

“C'mon George! A little flour never hurt anyone."

“Well, if that's how you feel then..." George threw flour at Ev.

“Hey! Oh that's it..." Ev threw flour, but it hit Harry instead of George. Soon enough, after Harry hit me with flour, it turned into a flour fight. Nancy and Carol came in during the commotion.

“What's going on?!" Carol said. Uh oh...we might be in trouble.

8:00 PM

Well, we got home and we only got a warning. We still had to clean up the flour. We walked through the door and-

“Harry!! What happened!?" Anne exclaimed, “Why are you both coated in flour?" There she is. The questioning Anne.

“Well mum, it's a very funny story..."

A few moments later...

“Harry, you could have gotten Diana fired."

“It's okay Anne. At least it happened after we baked and delivered."

“Okay both should clean up before you leave a trail of flour around the house." It took Harry and me an hour to get the flour off of us. As far as I know, working at the bakery will be harder now that in a few weeks...

No. Maybe I should just make sure everything stays the same as last time. But then again...

Let's see where this goes.
