Second year was the year that I started dating Harry, he asked me out at Diagon Alley while we were getting our school supplies. Gryffindor. I said yes because I thought I liked him in more than a friend type of way, but later that year I learned that, that wasn't the reason.
It was Wednesday and my mum was rushing about the house looking for the keys, she was worried we would be late at meeting Katy and her parents at Diagon Alley were we had all agreed to meet Hermione. She said that Harry and Ron would be there too so it would be all of us.
When she finally found the keys we drove to The Leaky Cauldron were my mum was happy to see Katy and her parents waiting. My dad couldn't come because he was handling an important case about this man that had stolen millions of pounds from the place he worked. We all got through the brick wall into the Diagon Alley, we made a stop at Gringotts. Hermione was waiting outside and Katy and I waved at our parents waiting by Hermione.
"We'll go in, in a bit" I said to my mother who nodded her head and started to make her way up the steps with both of Katy's parents.
"Do you know when Ron and Harry will be getting here?" I asked her, Hermione just shrugged.
"I have no idea, they said they would be here-" In just that moment Hermione spotted Harry.
I knew this because she started yelling out his name to get his attention to her, in that moment I felt something tug at my stomach. I felt nervous and I didn't know why. I mean it was just Harry? It's not like it was Draco who was coming up to us but in this moment I had the same feeling I always got when I was around Draco.
Hermione had run up to Harry and in that moment Katy grabbed my hand and pulled me towards them. Harry looked at me and I gave him a smile as he answered Hermione.
"As soon as I've found the Weasley's" Harry said.
"Yeh won't have long ter wait" Hagrid said, we all turned around to see them all coming down the street.
"Harry, we hoped you'd only gone one grate too far"
"Where did you come out?" Ron asked.
"Knockturn Alley" Hagrid answered for him
"We've never been allowed in," Ron said.
They all talked for a while before we went into Gringotts. My mum was at the counter exchanging the money when Mr. Weasley went to talk to all of our parents. In that moment Harry pulled me away, I had over hear him talk about Draco but I had decided not to say anything because I knew how much they didn't like each other.
"Hey" Harry said giving me a small smile.
"Hey, what's up?"
"I wanted to ask you something important, I understand if you say no-"
"What is it Harry?" I asked interrupting him, I was getting annoyed and the butterflies in my stomach where flapping there wings even more rough than they were a while ago.
"I've been thinking a lot about our friendship and how I really like you, I was wondering if, you know? Maybe you would like to be my girlfriend?" Harry asked his nervousness seeping in. I gave him a light smile putting my small hand on his shoulder.
"Of course I would love to be your girlfriend Harry!" I said jumping over at him and wrapping my arms around his neck giving him a tight hug.
"Harry!" Ron called out and we both turned around to see him pointing back at his parents. He seemed to know what was going on because he smiled at Harry. Of course Harry would have told Ron before asking me out, "Meet you back here" Ron said and we all nodded.
After they left and my mum exchanged the money I told her about what Harry had just asked me, When they came back up my mum had a little talk with Harry which I didn't know about what and then he came up to me and held my hand.
In the end it was just Harry, Katy, Hermione, Ron, and I who were together because everyone else had left. We had explored many places before going to Flourish and Blotts, it seemed that there was a lot of people there and I was hoping that I would see Draco there. I mean it wasn't bad was it? That I was friends with my now boyfriends worst enemy.
There was a large sign on the front of the bookstore that read:
GILDEROY LOCKHART will be signing copies of his autobiography MAGICAL ME today 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Hermione was next to us jumping up and down excitedly. "We actually get to meet him! I mean he's written almost the whole booklist!" I didn't really understand what she was so excited about, but Katy seemed to be excited too. They were both jumping up and down holding on to each other freaking out over the fact that Gilderoy Lockhart was here.
We all managed to get in to meet all of our parents, my mum was standing right next to Katy's mum laughing about something.
"Oh, there you are, good, we'll be able to see him in a minute" Mrs. Weasley said making me guess that she liked this Lockhart dude as well.
I was on the second store of the book store when I saw her, Rosie, as beautiful as she was the last time I had seen her before summer. We had been talking all summer and I was able to admit to myself that I liked her in more than a friendly way. That was something that I wouldn't be able to admit to her, I looked around to see who she was with when my eyes landed on her hand that was holding on to Potters. I put both my hands on the rail and looked down at them to see what was happening, they were pushed by the Daily Prophet photographers when Lockhart looked down at them and spoke.
"It can't be Harry Potter?" Lockhart asked making me roll my eyes, everybody turned to look at him and I was able to see more clearly that he was holding Rosie's hand the way I should be holding it. Lockhart moved forward and grabbed Potter from the arm pulling him away from Rosie who was standing there smiling at him. Everybody clapped and when Potter tried to go back to Rosie but Lockhart pulled him back to him, "Ladies and gentlemen, what and extraordinary moment this is! The perfect moment for me to make a little announcement I've been sitting on for some time! When young Harry here stepped into Flourish and Blotts today, he only wanted to buy my autobiography - which I shall be happy to present him now, free of charge He had no idea that he would shortly be getting much, much more than my book, Magical Me. He and his schoolmates will, in fact, be getting the real magical me. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure and pride in announcing that this September, I will be taking up the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!" The crowd cheered and clapped and Rosie seemed to have a big smile on her face, probably proud that she had such a famous boyfriend.
I didn't care if I was jumping to conclusions it was obvious that they were dating, I mean she didn't hold my hand when we were just friends. Feeling annoyed I made my way down the stairs and stopped right in front of Potter who had gone back to holding Rosie's hand.
"Bet you loved that, didn't you Potter?" I asked. They all turned to look at me and Rosie gave me a smile but I didn't pay any attention to her. I was annoyed that she would think about dating Potter when she knew I hated him, It was already enough that she was friends with him,
"Famous Harry Potter, can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page"
"Leave him alone, he didn't want all that!" Weasel's younger sister said giving me a glare.
"Potter, you've got yourself a girlfriend!" I yelled out in the moment regretting it because Potter came up to me with a smirk pulling up the hand that was holding Rosie's.
"As a matter of fact, I do" Potter said, in that moment Weasley and Granger came up to us.
"Oh, it's you, bet you're surprised to see Harry here, eh?" Weasley said to me, I was able to feel Rosie's eyes still on me and I didn't have the courage to look at her.
"Not as surprised as I am to see you in a shop, Weasley, I suppose your parents will go hungry for a month to pay for all those." Weasel and his sister went red and that when I heard Rosie speak.
"What is wrong with you Drac- Malfoy!" She yelled out and I glared at her.
"So it Malfoy now, what you start dating Potter and all of a sudden you hate me too?" I asked and opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. More Weasels came and I turned my attention away from Rosie not wanting to see that expression of disbelieve on her face.
Just then I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up to see that it was my father, "Well, well, well- Arthur Weasley" I stopped paying attention only keeping my eyes on Rosie who had a frown on her face as she looked down at the ground. All of a sudden I felt my father's hand let go of me quickly and when I looked up I saw that my father was pushed against the bookshelf by Weasle's father. His family was going hysteric and I just stared not knowing what to do.
The giant oaf finally pulled them apart my father had a bruise on his eye. My father pulled away from the oaf and motioned for me to follow him so I did, not without giving Rosie one last look. I knew I wouldn't see her again until school started but it wouldn't be the same because we were not friends anymore.
Right when the train was about to leave we saw the Weasley's come, I looked around for Harry but he was no where in sight, "where are they?" I asked Katy who just shrugged.
"I don't know, but we better get in already before they leave us behind" Katy was right because in the moment we walked back in the train has started moving, just behind us was Ginny Ron's little sister. We walked up to her and already she glared at me, Bloody Hell she doesn't like me, I thought. It was strange because I had never really talked to her before not even the day at Diagon Alley.
"Ginny, were is your brother and Harry?" Katy asked making Ginny snap her attention to her.
"No idea, they were right behind us when we came through" Ginny said before walking away. I looked at Katy who just shrugged, "Maybe they already came in and we didn't notice" Katy said, maybe she was right and they were already seated with Hermione. We were wrong because in the compartment we walked into there was only Hermione seated.
"Were are the boy's?" Hermione asked but we just shrugged.
The train ride wasn't very eventful, let's see what else happened second year.
After we had finished lunch, Katy and I walked outside with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Ron and Harry were talking about Quidditch, I listened to the way Harry talked about it with a passion. He was a very good seeker, I would like to play Quidditch but I would probably get knocked off my broomstick the moment I got out on the field. I was about to ask Katy something when we all got interrupted, "All right, Harry? I'm-I'm Colin Creevey" a boy said taking a step towards us, "I'm in Gryffindor too. D'you think-would it be all right if-can I have a picture?" Colin asked.
Harry looked over at me and I shrugged, "A picture?" he asked.
"So I can prove I've met you, I know all about you. Everyone's told me. About how you survived when You-Know-Who tried to kill you and how he disappeared and everything and how you've still got a lightning scar on your forehead, and a boy in my dormitory said if I develop the film in the right potion, the pictures'll move. It's amazing here, isn't it? I never knew all the odd stuff I could do was magic till I got the letter from Hogwarts. My dad's a milkman, he couldn't believe it either. So I'm taking loads of pictures to send home to him. And it's be really good if I had one of you-maybe your friend could take it and I could stand next to you? And then, could you sign it?"
Just then, the all too familiar voice that hasn't talked to me since school started spoke, "Signed photos? You're giving out signed photos, Potter?"
It was Draco, so when he came over I kept my head down. I felt him look over at me before he said, "Everyone line up! Harry Potter is giving out signed photos!"
"No, I'm not" Harry said.
"Shut up, Malfoy" I decided to jump in before Harry said something like he had at Florish and Blotts.
But it was too late, you're just jealous" Colin said.
Jealous?" Draco said looking over at me when I finally looked up, "of what? I don't want a foul scar right across my head, thanks. I don't think getting your head cut open makes you that special, myself"
"Maybe not that, but jealous I'm dating Rosie-"
"Harry" I cut in not wanting to go over this again.
Before Harry or I could say anything, Ron cut in, "Eat slugs, Malfoy"
Crabbe and Goyle both began to rub their knuckles and I was afraid a fight would start.
"Be careful Weasley, you don't want to start trouble or your mummy'll have to come and take you away from school"
I didn't want to hear any more of this so I quickly for up grabbing Katy's hand and we both walked away. Nobody stopped us but I was able to feel people looking at us.
It had been a while after that fight, I remember bumping into Draco at the library. It wasn't like the kind of encounter I would have liked to have with him.
I closed my book after finishing my transfiguration homework for Professor McGonagall, I walked out of the library bumping right into the one and only person I had hoped to avoid, Draco. I bent down to grab my rolls of parchment and when I looked up I saw Draco standing there with a nasty smile on his face.
"Sorry" I said trying to walk away but he just kept getting in front of me.
"Why Potter?" He asked and I didn't have anything to say so instead I looked down. I don't know why I had agreed to be Harry's girlfriend, being it right now didn't really make me feel different. In fact I didn't have the same feeling I felt every time I saw Draco, and to that I knew that I did like him, ever since he became my friend.
"It doesn't matter, you helped my father actually, he did always warn me that mudbloods were filthy pests. A burden in fact, nothing that I want to deal with"
"Draco? So what only call me Draco when your boyfriend Potter isn't here?" He asked and could feel the tears threatening to come out any second. I didn't dare cry in front of Draco, so instead I turned around before he could stop me and walked away.
"Look" I said pointing to the Slytherins who were talking to the Gryffindors, "I thought our team was practicing? What are they doing here?" I asked but they only shrugged. We all made our way towards tem and Ron asked, "What's happening? Why aren't you playing? And what's he doing here?" Ron asked pointing at Draco. In that moment I wished that I could disappear into the thin air so that he wouldn't have his eyes trained on me as he spoke.
"I'm the new Slytherin Seeker, Weasly, everyone's just been admiring the brooms my father bought our team." Harry saw me and grabbed my hand.
"Good, aren't they? But perhaps the Gryddindor team will be able to raise some fold and get new brooms, too. You could raffle off those Cleansweep Fives; I expect a museum would bid for them." All the Slytherins laughed making me glare at them.
"At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in, they got in on pure talent" Draco turned to look at Hermione who had said that.
"No one asked your opinion, you filthy little Mudblood, I swear, you and Ro-Stark getting in business that does not conclude you" Everyone began to yell, Flint got in front of Draco when he saw Fred and George coming at him. Ron put his hand in his robes and pulled out his wand.
"You'll pay for that one, Malfoy!" Ron said and pointed his wand at his face. Green light shot out of the wand and hit Ron right in the stomach making him fall back into the grass.
"Ron!Ron! Are you all right?" Hermione yelled and we all went after him when he didn't speak, instead we saw slugs come out of his mouth and onto the floor. Everyone saw laughing including Draco who looked stupid hitting the ground with his fists as he laughed.
"We better get him to Hagrid's, it's nearest" Harry said and we all agreed. Katy and I walked beside him.
I never really thought I would ever attend a Death Party, but I had and it is something I would never do again.
Harry had just finished telling us about the death party when he joined Hermione, Katy, Ron, and I in the common room, " I bet there aren't many living people who can say they've been to one of those-it'll be fascinating!" Hermione said and I nodded in agreement. Katy said she preferred Halloween feast so she got up and left us to the conversation.
"Why would anyone want to celebrate the day they died? Sounds dead depressing to me" Ron said. Before anyone of us could speak a salamander was in the air with loud sparks coming along with it. Nobody really talked about anything so instead I laid down beside Harry on the couch, a while later I walked into my room to talk to Katy about something that hasn't left my head since it happened. It had been such a long time since it happened but I couldn't help but to think about it.
"I don't know, it's obvious you like Draco. I don't know why you said yes to Harry in the first place if you know you don't like him in that way"
I knew she was right but I didn't want to break up with Harry, I was afraid it would affect our friendship.
At seven o'clock on Halloween we walked to the dungeons and into Nearly Headless Nicks party. It was freezing cold, and I had already regretted coming.
"Is that supposed to be music?" Ron asked and sighed.
"My dear friends" Nearly Headless Nick said taking one look at all of us.
"Welcome, welcome... so please you could come; see you brought your girlfriend...incredible..."he said and then left. All the ghost seemed to be having a great time. I really wished Katy was here, better yet that I was with her.
"Shall we have a look around?" Harry said.
"Careful not to walk through anyone" Ron answered back.
We were walking forward when Hermione said, "Turn back, turn back, I don't want to talk to Moaning Myrtle-"
"Who?" Harry and I asked.
"She haunts one of the toilets in the girls' bathroom on the first floor"
"She haunts a toilet?" Ron said.
"Yes. It's been out-of-order all year because she keeps having tantrums and flooding the place. I never went in there anyway if I could avoid it; it's awful trying to have a pee with her wailing at you-"
"Look, food" Ron said cutting Hermione off. We approached the table and I nearly vomited at the smell.
The party wasn't really anything interesting so let's see what else happened that night.
"I can't stand much more of this" Ron finally said and Harry agreed with him saying that we should leave. Ron talked about the food as we walked towards the entrance hall.
Harry stopped all of the sudden.
"Harry what're you-?
"It's the voice again shut up a minute-"
"What voice?" I asked but he didn't answer.
"Soo hungry... for so long..."Ron moaned.
"Listen!" Harry called out, we all froze and I tried to hear something but I didn't.
"This way" he said and then started running up the stairs. I followed them all, "Harry, what're we-"
"SHH!" Harry quieted me. "It's going to kill someone!" Harry shouted and I could feel all the color leave my face as we followed Harry up some more stairs.
"Harry, what was that all about" Ron asked when we came to a stop.
"I couldn't hear anything..." Hermione stopped and we all looked at what was in front of us.
THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS HAS BEEN OPENED. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE.
"What's that thing- hanging underneath?" Ron said and looked over to where he looked. It was Mrs. Norris, Filches cat.
"Let's get out of here" I said but Harry didn't move.
"shouldn't we try and help-"
"Trust me, we don't want to be found here" Ron said and I agreed shaking my head up and down. Just as we were about to leave people walked over and everybody stopped looking at what was behind us.
"Enemies of the Heir, beware! You'll be next Mudbloods!" Draco said grinning at the sight behind us. His eye's flickered to me and his smile faded.
When I learned about the chamber of secrets I was afraid and I had half a mind to go up to Draco and asked him what he knew about the chamber of secrets considering he had said that us Muggle born would be next.
During History of Magic lessons Hermione had decided to ask Professor Binns about it. "My subject is History of Magic, I deal with, facts, Miss Granger, not myths and legends" Professor Binns said and then continued to talk about what he was talking about earlier. I didn't pay much attention until I saw Hermione's hand go up again.
"Please, sir, don't legend always have a basis in fact?" Professor Binns looked at her and I turned my head regretting it because Draco was seated on the table right next to mine and Hermione's. Harry was seated next to Ron, anywho, Draco was looking at me as well-
"Yes, one could argue that, I suppose." Professor Binns said and I was still looked at Draco, next he grabbed a piece of paper and then he passed it to me, knowing that nobody would notice because they were all paying attention to Professor Binns.
I opened the piece of paper but didn't read it because it looked as Professor Binns was going to tell us about the Chamber of Secrets, I put the paper down under a roll of parchment and looked up at the teacher to see what he was going to say.
"Oh, very well, let me see... the Chamber of Secrets... you all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago- the precise date is uncertain-by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. The four school Houses are named after them:Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people, and witches and wizards suffered much presecution. For a few years, the founders worked in harmony together, seeking out youngsters who showed signs of magic and bringing them to the castle to be educated, but then disagreements sprang up between them. A rift began to grow between Slytherin and the others. Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning-" I stopped listening because felt something being thrown at my head. I looked down to see a rolled up piece of paper.
I unrolled it and read it, Read my note.
I looked over at Draco knowing it was from him. He pointed at my roll of parchment were I knew that the paper was under. I shook my head and turned back to Professor Binns.
"Hidden chamber in castle, of which the other founders knew nothing, Slytherin, according to the legend, sealed the Chamber of Secrets so that none would be able to open it until his own true heir arrived at the school. The heir alone would be able to unseal the Chamber of Secrets, unleash the horror within, and use it to purge the school of all who were unworthy to study magic." It was quite and I was a bit annoyed by Draco for distracting me from the story.
"The whole thing is arrant nonsense, of course, naturally, the school has been searched for evidence of such a chamber, many times, by the most learned witches and wizards. It does not exist a tale told to frighten the gullible"
Hermione's hand went up and then she said,"Sir- what exactly do you mean by the 'horror within' the chamber?"
"This is believed to be some sort of monster, which the Heir of Slytherin alone can control, there is no chamber and no monster" and after everyone stopped arguing we went back to the original lesson which no one really paid attention to.
After class I decided to read the note from Draco, so I packed up all my things and began to read the note I only saw the first word before Harry distracted me.
"Ready to go?" He asked me and I looked over at Draco, who just rolled his eyes and walked out of the class room.
"Yeah" I said taking his hand and we all walked out. They were all talking about something but I paid no attention due to the fact I had my eyes trained on the hand of mine that was clutching the note. I wouldn't be able to read it until Harry was away from me, so I decided to just stuff the note into my bag.
