I notice Alexander keeps glancing at the clock while we're working the next day. I raise an eyebrow.
"Do you want me to go?" I ask, smiling. "Because I won't be offended."
He laughs. "Sorry. It's just I've gotta start getting ready for the party."
"No problem." I stand up, getting my bag.
He hovers before he starts showing me to the door. I still have no idea how to find my way around his house.
"You could always stay for the party." he shrugs. "It's gonna be fun."
"Thank you, but I'm having a sleepover with Johanna." I tell him.
He smirks. "You have a sleepover with Johanna every weekend, don't you?"
I frown. "How do you know that?"
"I just do." he says. "Johanna could come to the party. Carrie and Alice too."
"Yeah, thanks but it's not really our sort of thing." I smile awkwardly. "Thanks though."
He shakes his head in wonder but leads me to the door anyway. I wonder if maybe I should tell him that we will come to the party. Maybe not Carrie and Alice, I don't know if they'd enjoy it, but maybe Johanna and I could go. Johanna would love to see the house and the car and everything and she gets along with people easily. But then I imagine me at this party and I cringe and decide a sleepover at Johanna's is just fine.
I mention it to her at about nine pm and her eyes widen.
"Did you say we'd go?" she demands.
I laugh. "Of course I didn't."
"What?" she frowns, appalled. "Why not? Can we go? Can you call him, can we go now?"
"I don't have his number. And why do you want to go anyway?"
"His car!" she yells, getting up and routing through her wardrobe. "Contact him somehow!"
"Johanna." I groan but I know there's no way I'm getting out of this. I guess it won't be terrible. She's good at talking to people, I can just follow her around. I can't call Alexander or anything so I just hope he'll let us in when we show up.
"Wear this." she chucks just a normal black dress at me and some tights and shoes and she pulls on a red dress.
I reluctantly change out of my pyjamas and into the clothes and within twenty minutes, we're pulling up outside of his house amongst dozens of other cars. We hear the party before we see it, it's the kind of thumping music that makes your heart feel weird. There are a few people out in the garden but the house is where everybody else is. It's not packed because his house is huge but not even a quarter of these people would fit into my house.
"Go and find him!" she yells over the music.
"Come with me!" I shout back and we make our way through the crowds.
We find him on the fourth floor of the house a while later with a couple of his friends.
"Hey!" I call even though it's pointless because there are so many people. I wander up to him and try again. "Hey!"
He looks confused for a moment but then grins. "Kaya! I thought you weren't coming."
"I wasn't." I tell him, glancing at his friends. They look confused as to why I'm speaking to him and as to why I'm even here. "Johanna was wondering if she could see your car."
He looks over my shoulder at Johanna and nods. "Yeah, sure, let me show you where it is."
He leaves his friends and leads us out of the house, down to the garage. He and Johanna talk about cars the whole way there but I'm only half listening. It's freezing cold out and I'm uncomfortable in these shoes and this dress and I would just rather be in bed to be honest.
He opens his garage door and Johanna gasps. There's his Lamborghini but then there's also three more cars, just as nice and probably just as expensive.
"Are these all yours?" she asks.
He nods, chuckling. "Yeah. Which one do you wanna take for a ride?"
Her eyes widen as she looks at him. "Oh no, I wasn't asking to... I just wanted to look at the Lamborghini-"
He laughs. "You can go and drive one if you want, I don't mind. Which one?"
Her eyes are still wide as she points to the red one. He grins, chucking her the keys and she looks at me with so much excitement and happiness in her eyes. I feel bad but I'm really not in the mood for all of this.
"Are you coming?" she asks.
I shake my head. "I'll wait in your car til you get back."
"Suit yourself." she says, climbing into the car. "Thank you Alexander!"
"Just get her back to me by morning." he says, smiling at her as she drives away.
I frown at him. "You call your car 'her'?"
"No I meant you." he says sarcastically. "Of course I call my car 'her', why wouldn't I?"
I shrug, sighing. "Whatever."
He narrows his eyes. "What's up with you?"
"Nothing." I cross my arms. "I'm going to go and wait in the car for her, I'll see you on Monday I guess."
"You can come inside to the party instead of waiting in the car, you know." he suggests.
"I'm okay thanks." I say. "You should go back to your friends."
"Alright." he says and I walk back to Johanna's car, waiting for her to come back.
