“Rae, You’ve been nothing but trouble since we moved. What’s going on with you?” My Mother stares at me quizzically. If I could tell her what was going on, I would. But I can’t. Nothing can change the fact that if I told her, she would send me to a shrink of sorts. Of course, the biggest thing of our move is that I met two people who can do what I do. They can read minds. Their names are Zack and Kriss.
“Rae Ann Sumner, I asked you a question and I expect an answer.” My Mother gets more and more demanding by the minute.
“It’s nothing, Mom. It was a misunderstanding, the teachers miscommunicated with me.” Lie number one.
“You didn’t just have a miscommunication. Tell me Rae, Is it a ‘miscommunication’ that you’re failing Math and English. Is it a ‘miscommunication’ that you don’t bother to show up at dinner with Jamie, your mother, and I? What else, Rae? What other excuses?” my father asks me bitterly.
“I am failing because I forgot to turn in my homework. I don’t show up at dinner because I am at the library trying to finish my work.” Lies two and three.
“Alright, Rae, you just need to work a little harder, honey.” She smiles but, my father begins to shout.
"YOU'RE USELESS! YOU ARE A MISTAKE YOU LITTLE BRAT! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!" He bellows.
"Honey, be reasonable. Rae, darling, go up to your room." my mother says. I quickly obey, running up the stairs into my bedroom. I sit on my bed, after locking the door. I wait a few minutes, just taking deep breaths. Then, I hear a soft knock on my door.
"Who is it?" I ask softly.
