She looks to the sky

1. She Looks to the Sky

She looks to the sky,
The maroon feathers releasing,
She looks to freedom,
Wings unfolding,
She looks to escape,
The wings flap awkwardly,
She looks away from judgement,
The first full stroke lifting feet from the ground,
She looks to the light,
Body traveling through the air,
She smiles reluctantly turns away,

Because to her those maroon awkward wings,
Are more precious than diamonds,
Because as beyond her reach the young raptor learns her craft,
She learns that she can be herself.
