It’s officially the end of the quarter, and time for the big party. We’re all going to the courtyard, and well, doing what normal teenagers would do. Drink. Our teachers didn’t really care about what we did around here, as long as we got good grades.
“Hey, Brogan. I was wondering if you wanted to stay the night in our dorm. It would be really fun for after the party.” My friend Kate said. She’s really nice, and I’d never suspect her to be a drinker.
“Sure, why not? Are there going to be any boys there?” I asked her.
“Yeah, only a couple, though. There’s only going to be a couple of them, considering that there’s only going to be a couple of us.” She told me.
“Who are they?” I asked he.
“Well, there’s going to be Ryan, Broady, Bentley, Stephen, Steven, and Roger. Why did you want to know? Not on good terms with those boys?” She asked me, attempting to be an investigator. She’s really into acting, so she specializes in the Drama Department.
“Nah, just wondering. Do you know if Ryan hates me? I met him on the plane while I was coming here, and he was totally fine, until I said my age. What’s up with him?” I asked her curiously.
“Oh, Ryan’s 16. He thinks he will never get a girlfriend that’s younger than him. He really likes you, ya know.” She filled me in on him and his friends, while getting ready for the party. I was wearing one of her dresses, and a pair of Morgan’s high heels. Morgan was her roommate, and one of my best friends, so it didn’t really matter that I was borrowing her shoes. I really wish that I could room with some girls once in a while. It gets kind of awkward with Caleb.
“If Ryan asked you out, would you say yes?” Morgan asked me. She was sitting on her bed doing her homework. She wasn’t going to the party, so she wasn’t in no hurry.
“I don’t know. Maybe? I have to get to know him first. If he asked me to be his girlfriend right away, I would say no. If he asked me on a date, that’s a whole other story.” I explained. They just nodded their heads and Morgan got back to her homework, and Kate got back to finishing my hair.
Both of us were ready, and all I needed was to go back to my room. I needed to grab some clothes for tonight, and some other stuff like nail polish and more makeup. Once I walked in, Caleb and his friends looked at us like we were angles.
“You guys look amazing.” Cliff said. I think he has a thing for me, because he keeps doing that during classes, too. He’s cute, just not my type. Paul was in there, too, so that made the compliment make the room go silent. Caleb smacked Cliff’s arm, and I grabbed my stuff.
“I’m staying at Kate’s and Morgan’s tonight. I have five words for you guys. Stay. Out. Of. My. Stuff. Do you understand?” I asked and they nodded their heads. They were scared of me, so I had my advantages. Ryan was there also, but he was sitting in the corner not talking to anybody. I wonder if he’s okay.
“Ryan, can I talk to you for a second?” I asked him. His head shot up, and he followed me into the hallway.
“What’s up?” He asked me.
“What’s up with you? You’ve been ignoring me ever since the plane ride, and now you want nothing to do with me. Are you okay?” I asked him.
“Well, I like somebody, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t like me back. I want to asked her on a date, but I’m scared that she’ll say no. What do I do?” He asked me. It took me a minute to think, but then I thought of something.
“Who do you like? I think I might be able to help.” I told Ryan.
“you.” He muttered, but just enough so I could hear him.
“Fine, I’ll do the asking since you’re scared. Will you go on a date with me?” I asked him. He looked at me and smiled. I hugged him, and kissed his cheek.
“When’s that date going to happen?” I asked him.
“Tomorrow night at the courtyard. Wear something warm.” He said into my ear.
“And just so you know, I’m not 14 anymore. I’m only a year younger than you so it’s not that bad.” I told him. I hugged him again, and he kissed my cheek, and we walked back into the room.
“Can we get going? These heels will be for nothing. Remember, I’m the kind of girl that would take basketball shoes over anything.” I told everybody.
“Yeah, let’s go. I don’t like heals either.” Kate said.
“Hey, Kate. I’m going to call you Kat from here on out. Kate sounds too formal.” I told her. She just looked at me funny, and everybody started to laugh.
“What? It’s true! Let’s just go now, or I’m not going at all.” I told them, then they started to take it seriously.
We were finally out to the courtyard, and just about everybody was drunk. I went to the food and drink table, and grabbed a sprite. I didn’t plan on drinking, considering that there’s classes tomorrow. I also grabbed a cup and filled it with pretzels. I like pretzels, and they like me.
“Hey, wanna dance?” Somebody asked me. I’m pretty sure he was a Senior. I’ve never met him before.
“Who are you?” I asked him.
“Kellin Quinn, who are you?” He asked me. His name is Kellin, and he looks emo. I look emo, I listen to the same music, and he’s hot. Why not go for it?
“Brogan Thomas. What grade are you in?” I asked him.
“I’m in your grade, you just never noticed me. I’m the one who sits at the back of the class, and never raises my hand. You’re the total opposite, so why not go for you. You’re cute, too.” He told me. Now that I’m starting to remember, I’ve seen him around. I just can’t understand why I’ve never talked to him before. I talk to EVERYBODY.
“Sure. And just so you know, I’m not the opposite of you. I just talk to more people than you. Otherwise, we’re like twins. What’s your favorite band? Mine’s Pierce the Veil and Breaking Benjamin.” I told him.
“Same here! I guess I thought of you as one of the populars.” Kellin told me.
“You could say that. I may be popular, it’s just I’m not stuck up.” I told him. He looked shocked.
“I never expected for you to call your friends stuck up. I guess I was wrong about you. So, do you wanna dance?” He asked me. I listened to what song it was, and it was King For A Day. Was that him singing?
“Sure, but is that you singing? When you said Kellin Quinn, I knew it sounded familiar. What are you doing here? I mean at Styler Academy.” I asked him.
“Remember, I’m only 16.” He reminded me.
“Wait, then why are you a Sophmore?” I asked him.
“I started school late.” He told me. “And your parents said that you loved Pierce the Veil, and me of course, so they wanted me to come here and keep an eye on you. They said if you drank, to take it away and dump it, too.” When he said that I just laughed.
“Typical dad. He’s too over protective.” I said.
“So, that dance?” I asked. I grabbed his hand, and we went out to the middle of the field. When King for a Day ended, wanted by Hunter Hayes came on. I backed up because I wasn’t sure if he wanted me to stay.
“It’s fine. I won’t bite you.” He said.
“You sure? You don’t have to.” I told him.
“I’m sure.” He said and put his arms around my waist. When he did that, I got butterflies in my stomach, like it was meant to be. I felt this between Kellin and Caleb. I’m torn between two. Dear God help me.
I think he noticed that I was spacing out, because he tapped me on the shoulder multiple times.
“Yeah?” I asked him.
“The song’s over. What’s wrong? I was trying to talk to you the whole time, but you didn’t respond. Everything alright?” He sounded concerned. He shouldn’t be. I’ve only known him for like ten minutes.
“I can’t tell you. I’ll see you later.” I said, and with that, I went to go fin Kat so we could leave.
“Brogan, what’s wrong?” Kat asked me when I ran up to her. I was out of breath.
“We NEED to leave. I have to tell you something.” I said.
“Okay, let me tell the boys.” She said. She walked towards them, and told them we were leaving. They didn’t care, and we went to Kat and Morgan’s room. Morgan said she didn’t care if we were in there, she was also going to talk with us. Once we got into the room, Kat made me sit down on her bed.
“Spill. What happened back there?” She asked me.
“Kellin Quinn was talking to me, and then he asked me to dance.” I said in my quietest voice, just so Ryan wouldn’t hear me. “When Wanted came on by Hunter Hayes, he put his arms around my waist, and it felt like it was meant to be. But when Caleb and I kissed, I felt the same way. What do I do? I really don’t want to go out with Ryan, but I have to. Help me.” I explained some more details, and her mouth dropped when I was finished.
“I’m torn between two guys. Help.” I said.
“You’re going to need a lot of help to sort this mess out. I’ll explain later.” She told me. “Let’s just hang out with the guys for now.”
