17. What now?
They were all nervous. The pounding was expected, but still heart stopping. Then, the yelling. But, the cracking was terrifying. They glanced at the door, and saw the axe sticking through the door.
Chance instantly took Brittany's hand and ran with her to the window. Gabe took Madison's hand and did the same. The parents followed. Chance had to get Brittany out of here. He didn't want to lose her to a riot of psychos. He could see how scared she was. How tight she held his hand, and her worried tears in her eyes. She was too innocent.
He led her out to the fire escape, she trusted him with her life. They ran down the stairs and raced down the street. He didn't let go of her hand, she looked so scared and in so much pain.
The running was too much for Brittany, it hurt too much. The wind ahead of them whipped at their faces and it hurt so bad. Chance was crying, he knew how much it hurt Brittany and it hurt him just as much to see her hurt. He slowed down a little to help Brittany. They kept running farther and farther, yet they still heard the screams behind them. It was too much. Brittany collapsed on the pavement and ripped open the slash on her face again. Chance stopped and fell to his knees. He screamed and he couldn't stop. He couldn't watch Brittany like this. He kept screaming as she bled on the pavement.
