Christmas of Perfection

Christmas is just around the corner, but will it be the way we hope this year? Will it be the perfect christmas we all hope for, or will it be ruined this year... again?

5. Getting over it.

The day went on and she had to see him in the halls all day.

He just stared at her and gave her that look that says, "I'm sorry, but I can't change this." She hated that look. When he'd do this, she'd look away and stand a little taller. She walked with Madison and Gabe to all the classes and they walked faster whenever he would cross their path. He looked so sad and all, but she tried to show him that she's fine without him.

When the end of the day came instead of waiting for him so they could walk to the bus together like they always had done, she left him. He came running up to her and she just looked away.

"I think I can explain this whole thing.", he said to her trying to spare her feelings.

" What is it then? And, don't spare my feelings, it's like lying to me. I've had enough of the lies from you.", she said harshly.

He walked a little slower trying to get her to do the same. She finally slowed down, and she found some kindness in her to listen to him.

"Okay, what happened, was. I don't want to hurt you by dating her. I know, it'd crush you inside and I hate to see people suffer from me." She suddenly felt the anger build up.

"What?! You aren't going to be my friend because you got a girlfriend? I told you not to spare my feelings and this whole thing is to spare my feelings? You're right. This isn't working out."

She hated to say that, but what else was there to say?

"I'm sorry, I just didn't want to hurt you. You have every right to be angry. Anything, that you wanna say is okay with me. I just feel bad for this whole thing. Can you... please forgive me?" he said.

Brittany just felt bad about the way she was acting. She stared into his brown eyes.

"I'm sorry for what I have been saying. I didn't realize that you were that worried about me. I know you don't like me the way I like you, but I... I forgive you. I don't know what to do now... I guess I will see you tomorrow." she said this feeling guilty.

She suddenly thought about something and she said it to him immediatly.

"So, I assume we are still not friends, because you don't want to hurt me..." He stood there at a stop, not caring if people were yelling at them to get on the bus so they could leave.

"I'm sorry. I don't want to see you hurt that I don't really feel that way for you and I'm taken by someone else. If you think you can, I'd be happy to stay friends with you. I'm sorry for not telling you and for being so stupid about this." he said. They finally started walking to the buses, but they had already started leaving and it was too late to catch them.

"So, I guess we missed the bus...", Brittany said trying not to smile. He laughed.

"Yeah I guess so. How long do you think it'll be before your parents come to pick you up?" he said smiling.

She smiled back, "Ummm, probably another hour, they aren't gonna be happy. I won't have time to do my chores. And I'll get smacked a couple thousand times for it, and then I'll get grounded...Oh, shoot!"

He looks confused, "What? Did I say something?" he said worried. She smiled nervously.

"No. I just. I didn't want to tell you what I go through at home, and I just let it slip. Did you hear any of it?", she said nervous and worried. He looked worried.

"Yes. I had no idea it was so rough for you. Why didn't you tell me? I would have been there for you." he said like he felt guilty about something.

They sat down on the bench beside each other.

"No, it's fine. I have gotten used to it, and I didn't want you to know about it. I didn't want anyone to feel bad for me because, it's not worth it." she said trying not to look upset.

He didn't look so sure. He stared at her and he decided to be nice about it.

"Oh my gosh, you are way too modest. I feel bad for you, and I can't help that. So, how do you handle it all? I've never been in a situation like that." he said gently.

Brittany felt weird. She didn't know how to react. It seemed awfully weird that he was being so nice to her if he had a new girlfriend...

"I hold up pretty well. I usually just get used to the blows, and follow the saying. 'Grin and bear it'. My other friends knew about this all. I just... didn't want to change anything about our friendship. I thought it'd be too awkward if you knew."

She stared into his big brown eyes. "I think we should get this worked out. And, can we forget this whole thing ever happened? I don't wanna lose you, if that makes any sense..." They just smiled at each other. She was not really swayed by the whole situation.

"So...", he said trying to keep from the awkward silence. She smiled, and she laughed. "So, yeah... Umm, we missed the bus, and we are sitting here after an event that practically killed me inside. Yeah, pretty much the usual routine." He smiled at her and laughed.

They ended up sitting there for a while just talking and they both felt the same thing inside. This was wrong! They shouldn't be worried about the other one because they are dating another person. He finally got the nerve to do it. He pulled out his phone, and he called his current girlfriend.

"Hey, look... I just had a moment where I had the truth click in my head.... Yeah I know it sounds Hollywood...Look, I think this is done.... Yes.... Okay... FINE YOU PRISSY JERK!... THIS IS OVER!!!", and he slammed his phone on the bench.

"Okay. That's over.", he said smiling.

Brittany was shocked. He just broke up his girlfriend, and he was sitting there with her. This just went in a good direction... He stared into her dark green eyes.

"So, now that I just broke the main barrier, I guess things are gonna change again.....Ummm.... So, I just broke up with her and... Do you still like me any?", he said grinning.

"Yes, I still like you..." she smiled.

He leaned a little closer and smiled, "So, umm....I haven't done this very much... Will you ummm.... go out with me?"

She smiled, and leaned as close as he had, "Yes.... I will...", she said smiling. He slipped his hand into hers, grinning.

"So, we're a thing now.", she said nervously. He smiled.

"Yes, I guess so. This won't change much, will it? Or will it cause a problem?", he said.

She rolled her eyes jokingly, "You are so weird. There's nothing to worry about. I will handle this all. It will be okay." she said. But then it all came crumbling down...
