I had to think logically, it would be naïve to pick the guy with the kindest personality. Jay had protection, food, weapons and a plan.
"I dunno..." I barely whispered, but that was enough for Josh to explode.
"WHAT?! ARE YOU STUPID?! THIS GUY KIDNAPPED US!! I SPENT THE WHOLE NIGHT AWAKE WORRIED ABOUT THE TWO OF US AN- wait a second. Where did you sleep?" I froze, I couldn´t exactly blurt out my plan in front of everyone, and he noticed.
"Fuck this." He said then grabbed stuff and walked up to Jay,
"Looks like you won. Now let me take a piss then show me the door." He said with enough venom to make me flinch but Jay just sneered.
"Take a piss and find your own way out. We´re leaving." Then he turned to me and his eyes softened,
"Lee, are you sure want to go with me?" I could hear the hope in his voice so I bared my teeth at him. Or smiled.
"Yeah. I mean without you I would die!" three years of drama pulled off as I acted like Jay was my hero, I let out a few more lines of gratitude and Jay laughed.
"SHANTELLE!!" He called and Shezilla marched into the room.
"Pack Lee´s and my bags. We´re heading out in five minutes," he demanded, Shezilla nodded her head like a good little dog then walked away to do the chore. Sure enough, five minutes later we were walking out the front door. I walked up to Josh to say goodbye.
"Josh, I need you to come with me, I have no one else. You need to trust me, I have a plan." I pleaded but Josh just sneered.
"Sure, make up your excuses. You´re a stupid little girl for going with him." then he walked away and didn´t look back, I was getting sick of his attitude, he didn´t even know me. I sighed and walked towards Alice and pulled her into a hug.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I´m fine. Where are we going?" And I sighed, I had no clue where we were going. I walked up to Jay,
"Hey, baby cakes. How are ya holding up?" He greeted.
"All good. Where are we going?"
"Ah... Well.... We were planning on finding a bus with enough fuel then started heading down..." He trailed off looking uncomfortable.
"How far down? Like Edinburgh? That´s really far! I don´t know if I want to go that far away from home!" But it was worse than that.
"No, baby cakes, like all the way to... Uhhh...."
"What?!" I was outraged.
"Well there´s lots of protection there. I read about it in like a book called "The Enemy" by Charlie Higson. Everything he has described has happened here!"
"You IDIOT! This isn´t some kind of book! This is REAL. We can´t go off chasing a child´s dream. WE. WILL. DIE!"
"NO. WE. WON´T!" I realised Jay had started to lose his grip on reality. He was turning mad!
"Jay," I started in a calm voice, "London has over 1 million people. More than half of which will be adults. We wouldn´t make it five miles. They´re dangerous. What about fuel? What about small children like Alice? Or younger? Before we start heading to the big places we need to sort out the little places. Like here, Aberdeen."
"We´ll be fine," Jay muttered but it sounded like he was trying to convince himself and not me.
"Jay, you know it took twelve hours on a bus, and that was before all this!"
"Please Lee! Let me do this!" He pleaded. I sighed and placed my hands on each side of his face and looked him in the eye.
"Okay, how about this: we don´t go to London just yet. We start off with Aberdeen and once we have control of it we can find a way to get down to London safely. Please Jay, you know it´s the right thing to do!" I was about to give up when I heard him utter one word:
I jumped and hugged him. He clapped his hands to get everyone´s attention.
"Okay everyone! New girl has given me an idea that makes sense,"
I tried to ignore the fact that everyone´s expression was pure jealousy towards me and concentrated on Jay,
"Rather than charge towards London blindly we are going to stay here, build Aberdeen back up, help children and take back our city! After that we shall find a way to safely get to London. NOW LET´S TAKE BACK ABERDEEN! LET US TAKE BACK OUR CITY!!" He roared and everyone cheered.
"First of all we need to find a safe place to stay. Any ideas?" He continued.
"What about Balmoral castle?" someone from the audience shouted and everyone murmered in agreement.
"Okay then, let´s get going. First stop, the bus station. We´ll find a bus with enough fuel then make out way up." He ordered and everyone started getting ready to leave. Five minutes later we were in happy spirits marching our way up towards the bus station which was only a mile or two away.
"SICKOS!!" Someone shouted and everyone got their weapons ready. There was a tense silence. It was cut off with a shrill scream
