I hung up on Maia, and paced down the stairs towards my mother. "Mum, I need to know the truth, now." I said, slamming the diary in front of her. Her face became swollen and red, whilst tears flooded from her eyes. "Baby, I am so sorry," she wailed. "I wanted to protect you." She was shaking now.
"Tell me what happened."
"He said I wasn't a good mum, I am a good mum Ash. I got really mad, and I don't know why I even picked up the knife. Then before I could even think, it was lodged between his ribs. The blood, Ash. It was enough to drown my nightmares for the last ten years. I put the body in my car, and took it to his house. I trashed it, tried to make it look like a robbery. But, your dad caught me. Helped me clean up. Ashton, nothing has ever haunted me more. I loved Craig. And I love you." She couldn't stop shaking by this point.
"I don't even know my own mother," I cried. "I have to tell Maia." Her face became white.
"No. No, no, no, no, Ash. She knows too much already. I can't loose you. I already lost Craig. Not my baby boy as well. No, no, no, no, no, no."
"Then what, mum? What am i supposed to do? She already knows I fucking know something!"
"Ashton, you have to get rid of her. She's delusional, making up stories. Make her think she's insane. Make her leave town."
"Mum she's not stupid! And where would she go? It would never work!"
"Then there's only one thing you can do."
"Ashton, you'll have to get rid of her, forever."
"What the fuck mum? Did you just actually fucking say that?!"
"It's me or her Ash. If she stays, I go to prison. I can't loose my Ash. Not my baby. I've worked so hard to protect you. I can't loose you now."
"I'm not killing Maia!"
"Then I'll go."
"Then what? There is no other choice, baby." She kissed my forehead.
"Then, I choose you, mum. I'm sorry. That this ever came up. But I'll fix it now. I guess Maia will be happy. She'll finally see her dad again."
