3. Elmo Plays Again
When Spuddy was 5, her parents got her a Tickle Me Elmo doll. She cried the night she got it, as it watched her every move. Sometimes, when she woke in the middle of the night, she couldn't see it properly, only the eyes, which glowed red with malevolence. Once, before she went to bed, she put it on her cabinet facing the wall, but in the morning when she woke it was facing her, and grinning evilly. Another time, she heard it talking to her, telling her how it would kill her when she was old enough. Spuddy lived in fear. She couldn't tell her parents about it, they would just laugh. Many bitter tears were wasted on the Elmo doll. The scariest night of her life was when she put it as far away as she could from her, down in the kitchen. When she went to get a drink, terrified, Elmo was sitting on the stairs. When she woke up next, he was at her bedroom door, but she was so petrified she couldn't move. She closed her eyes once and he was next to her bed, then looked away one more time accidentally and he was on her head, holding a kitchen knife against her neck. She knew if she made a sound or moved he would slit her throat.
