"So wait, what's the girls name, so I'll at least know it?"
"Her name is Ocean. Her brother's Aiden."
I say, as I climb up the shakey ladder, and climbing through the small entrance into the tree house.
Ocean says, as she gets off her knees, and walks to Evan.
she says, shaking my brothers hand.
he says, smiling wider than I've seen all week.
I ask, trying to break the long handshake.
"Oh... he's doing okay."
she says, blushing as she realizes she had gotten lost in his eyes. I don't blame her though, I do it sometimes too.
"How are you feeling?"
she asks Evan, her voice cracking like someone walking on this ice.
"I'm going to try and find food."
"Don't be long."
I say, handing him his knife.
"The sun is going to go down soon."
"It won't take too long."
he says. He throws his arms around me in a clumsy hug, and goes outside.
Ocean goes immediately to watching Aiden, and I grab a rock and sharpen my knife.
"It's easy to get lost in his eyes. I never notice."
"It took me a while when we got older, to get out of the habit of looking into them. I don't like to think about it though."
"Because they were also my fathers eyes. I used do the same as a kid, not knowing why. Now I get it though."
I say, holding back tears. I try not to think about my father. Because if he was here right now, our life wouldn't be the same.
