I sighed. “So that’s the infamous Julie, huh?” I say, watching her retreating figure. “Great. Nice abscond.”
“She’s gonna run right into someone.” Zara sighs. She turns to me. “What was that?!”
“I was explaining. Did I shout?” I ask.
“No, it was your regular voice.”
“Yeah, I’m just loud. She got pretty hysterical though.” I say as I lift my hand to shade my eyes, trying to find her body, but she seems to have gone out of sight.
“You kept making a point of being my best friend.” She sighed, rubbing her eyes.
I turn to her, lowering my hand. “Well, aren’t I?” I ask quietly.
“Yes of course you are!” She says. “But you don’t need to make a big deal out of it!”
“I didn’t! I stated it when I was introducing myself. And I offered to help and she got upset! What do you want me to do? I’m trying here, Zar.”
“I know it’s just… I want my two closest friends to become friends! Can you just, go find her or something? That’d be nice.”
I nod. “Alright. I’ll go find the psycho- uh I mean, sensitive friend of our group.” I say. I mutter as I walk away. “Jeez, today is so fucking weird.”
I walk around the town, trying to find Jules, and I hear a sadly familiar voice.
“YO! Dudette, wait up!” I hear from behind. Naturally, I speed up.
“Hey! You walk fast.” I hear on my right. I look at him.
“Dude, I’m barely going 5 mph. How out of shape are you?” I ask him.
“Wow, rude.” He says. I scoff.
“Whatever. What do you want? I have to find my stupid best friend’s stupid friend.”
“Well, you kinda fell out of the sky. And I, being the hero I am, decided to make sure you’re okay. Besides, how many times does a girl fall out of the sky?” He says.
“AHHHHHHH!!!!” I hear. I look ahead, as a figure falls out of the sky.
“Apparently a lot more than you would think.” I say. I run to where the figure crashed down. I see two figures walking, well, one figure walking and dragging the other. Then they fight, the first figure collapse, and the second figure comes running towards me.
I squint. “Ly?” I say. She comes running towards me, and I hook my hand around her arm and swing us in a circle. “Woah, calm your tits, chica.” I say.
She stops and looks at me. “Mich? What are you doing here?”
“I got sucked in, just like you I assume.” I shrug.
“Dang, you run fast.” Alfred says, huffing and wheezing.
“This dude’s Alfred. He’s followed me around for a while.”
“Sup? I’m America.” He says.
“Yeah, apparently everyone here but you, me, Zar and her friend Jules are human countries. Very stereotyped.” I say. “That reminds me, Zara made me search after her friend Julie.”
“Oh, Julie Kooke?” She asks.
I shrug. “Sure, I don’t see why she couldn’t cook. Are you hungry, there’s like, a bajillion restaurants on Main Street.”
She shakes her head and laughs. “No, Julie Kooke, with a K. Zara introduced me to her a while back.”
“Are you serious? Has there been some kind of giant friendship circle while I was in Italy?” I say, putting my hand on my hip.
“Opps! She didn’t text you about her? They’ve known each other for a month now.”
“So I’ve noticed.” I say through grit teeth. I change the subject. “Who was that dude you just took a nut shot on?”
“Some guy named France. He was trying to get me to go to his house.”
I wrinkle my nose. “Creepy.” America and I say at the same time. We look at each other.
“Whatever. Come on,” I say. “Let’s go find Jules. I think Zar wants me to apologize.”
“For what?” Ly asks.
I shake my head. “No idea.”
