Aya and I sat together and watched everything happen from a distance. Sometimes I just didn’t feel like intervening, and now was one of those times. Zara and Julie ran off to meet Britain, and America and Eli got into a fight, while Miche walked off and ran into Prussia. Then everyone left at once, leaving Aya and I standing alone as night fell. Snow began to fall softly, and I shivered a little. I love nighttime, but I usually don’t get to enjoy it like this, since the real world is much harsher than the land of anime, and walking alone at night is a good way to get yourself kidnapped. I watched as my breath turned to mist in the air. Aya seemed to be enjoying it as well. It was possible that she had never seen snow before, since she was so young. We both sat in the quiet, enjoying ourselves. Then Aya pawed my shoulder. “Canada-san is here.” she said. I turned, surprised that Matthew would be here. “Hi, Matthew.” I said, smiling. He smiled back.
“What are you doing out here so late?” He asked me.
“Just enjoying the snow.” I said. Matthew seemed to notice me shivering.
“You look cold.”
“A little.” I admitted. Aya hopped on my head over to my other shoulder as Matthew put his arm around me.
“You should get inside somewhere.” he said, ushering me over to the Starbucks we had all become acquainted with. Once in, we sat down on one of the couches. “So, how was your day?” he asked.
“Ane-chan bought me lots of toys and good food and Miche-chan brought her cat Eli over to come play with me!” Aya said happily. I smiled.
“Yeah, I played with imōto-chan, then went shopping and bought her some presents, then we came here. Everyone was pretty caught up in what they were doing, though, so we ended up standing out there by ourselves.” I added. Matthew nodded.
“I know how that feels.” he said.
“Yeah. Sometimes it’s nice to be alone for awhile, though. Just to recharge, to think a little.” I said.
“Mhmm,” he agreed, “but you can also enjoy solitude with company.” Aya seemed a little lost, but I understood perfectly. It also made me blush for some reason.
“Y-yeah.” I stuttered. Aya, knowing that she wasn’t going to get attention, puffed her cheeks and went off to find someone else to talk to. Now Matthew and I were alone. We sat there quietly, not talking but enjoying each other’s presence. Somehow we had gotten closer on the couch, to the point where we were side by side. I leaned into him instinctively, and he put his arms around me. We sat like that for awhile. Then Matthew turned to face me, and I looked at him. Slowly our faces inched closer. Then, our lips met, and we kissed. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and his went around my waist. All I think about was him and this moment, nothing else. All of a sudden, I heard someone shouting “Yes! Oh my god, yes!” The moment was over, and we both broke apart from each other. Matthew’s entire face turned a bright red, and mine probably was, too. I turned towards where I had heard the shouting. “W-want to go check it out?” I asked quietly. He nodded, and we both got up and awkwardly made our way over to where we had heard the noise. “What’s going on?” I asked, seeing Julie, Britain, and Zara. Britain and Julie were hugging.
“Arthur just proposed to me!” Julie said excitedly.
“Really?” I asked in wonder. “That’s awesome!” I said.
“Yes! Look at the ring!” She said, running over to me. It had a TARDIS on it. I had my own little freak-out session right then and there.
“Oh. My. God. It’s a TARDIS!!!” I yelled, jumping up and down.
“Yes!!! It’s amazing isn’t it?!”
“Yes yes yes it’s awesome!” I exclaimed. Julie ran back to Britain and gave him a giant hug. I glanced back at Matthew, who was smiling at me a little at my excitement upon seeing a TARDIS. However, he still looked uncomfortable. I looked back at Julie, Britain and Zara.
“I’m sorry, but I need to go. I hope you don’t mind.” I told them.
“It’s fine,” Julie said, “Britain and I have to talk about wedding plans anyway.” I nodded and congratulated them once again, then turned to call Aya.
“Imōto-chan, it’s time to go!” I called. Aya popped her head up from behind the counter. Apparently she’s quite popular among the baristas.
“Okay, ane-chan!” She said, running up to me. I scooped her up in a small hug before letting her crawl up onto my shoulder. Then Matthew and I left together. He started to turn to go back to his house, but I stopped him. “Come to my house.” I said. He nodded and followed me back to my place. Even though Matthew was shy, he was never this quiet with me. It was scaring me. He didn’t change because we kissed, did he? Speaking of which, oh my god, I had my first kiss! I can’t believe it. I snapped out of my reverie as we approached my house and unlocked the door. When we stepped inside, Aya went straight to the bedroom. She was probably tired from running around so much. Matthew and I sat down on the couch. He stared at the ground silently. Seeing him nearly shun me like this was really starting to hurt. I gave a shuddering sigh, which caught his attention immediately. “Lyllianne, are you alright?” he asked, looking concerned. I nodded, but quickly wiped my eyes. Matthew enveloped me in a hug. “What’s wrong?” he asked quietly.
“Matthew… do you like me?” I asked. Matthew looked slightly shocked.
“Of course I like you! Ever since the first day I met you, I…” he trailed off. I hesitated a moment, but then asked. “You what?” He paused, working up courage.
“I… I… I l-love you…” he stuttered, looking at the ground. I turned and looked up at him.
“You know what?’ I asked.
“...what?” he said timidly.
“I love you too.” I reached up and kissed him. Matthew gasped, surprised, but then he kissed back. We stayed that way for a short while, now free of all interruptions. Then we lied on the couch and cuddled together. I looked up at him and asked, “Matthew? You wouldn’t abandon me, would you?”
“Never.” He said firmly. I lied back down, content. Pretty soon I found myself drifting off into a deep sleep. And I was happy.
