"It's just for a year Olivia." He said trying to reason with me.
"A long year." I glared out the window.
"You know Olive your just like your mother. Stubborn." He looked in the car mirror.
"Cool." I said. "Maybe we can visit Town Square tomorrow?" Dad asked.
"Its Monday tomorrow, school." I won.
"I think it too early for poor Via to go to school!" Fiona piped up. She is my new stepmother.
My dad was lonely after my mom died and met Fiona at a bar. Figures.
"She will be fine. She always is." Dad responded. Does he know? My heart raced.
He couldn't possibly know. "Just like her mom." He laughed. No, he doesn't know.
I wonder which "mom" he was talking about.
"Look Via!" Fiona squealed. I hate when she calls me Via.
She pointed out the window to a ivory stucco condo. Balconies layered on top of each other.
"Our new apartment!" Does she ever calm down? "Isn't cool Oliva?" Dad said excited.
"Its a stucco condo." I fell back in my seat. Dads eyebrows came together glaring at me.
He found a spot all the way at the back of the underground parking lot and we all got out of the car.
"Olive, grab those two boxes and find room 201."
Dad placed the keys on the top of the boxes I was carrying.
I cringed when he said 201. 01, moms motel number when the "accident" happend. Memories like that hit the trigger.
I pressed 2 in the elevator and our room was right there.
My hand was shaking for some reason and I couldn't get the keys in the hole.
Fumble. Fumble. Yes! Nope. "Ugh!" I said in defeat, maybe a little too loud.
"Here." A voice said as someone gently grabbed the keys out of my hand and opened the door.
"It's not that hard." It laughed. I looked back. A tall guy was standing behind me.
"Hey. I'm Liam. Pops the owner." He made a half smiled. His hair was a chocolate brown.
"Olivia. Dads an accountant." He chuckled. "Fair."
"Via! Hurry up and help with the forks! We have a lot of those!" Fiona hollered from a floor down.
I smiled and rolled my eyes. "Got to go. Forks need my help."
"Sarcastic, I like it." Liam smiled and slowly walked away.
I bit my tongue watching him walk down the hall.
"Via! Forks!" She made me jump and run into the condo.
Bedroom? I picked a small room with yellow walls.
Then I marched down the stairs to help with the forks.
