When I woke up the next morning, the fever had almost faded away. But I was still weak and my headache had gotten even worse. I took a deep breath and sat up straight, closing my eyes at the pain in my shoulder.
Harry had already left my shelter and I remember his rather weird behavior, the night before. It confused me even more than I already was, because I didn't understand what I had done to make him act that way towards me.
Sure, he was there and I could see he cared about me, but something was different. We were so close before the accident, what happened that made him so distant all of a sudden?
I decided to forget about it and used one arm to support my weight when I moved to sit on my knees. Then, with a groan, I slowly stood up, fighting the dizziness.
Panting a little, I looked around. The others- except for Harry - were all sleeping in the shelter and the guides had set up their own little tent.
When the dizziness was over, I hurried into the bushes.
I had never felt so relieved when I was done doing my business.
I suddenly became aware of the fact that this scenario was almost the same as when I got attacked. Me doing my business early in the morning, all alone...
I nervously walked back to the camp, quickening my pace when I heard some rustling leaves.
When I reached the camp, I let out a deep sigh.
The sound of the ocean attracted me and I walked towards what I assumed was a cliff.
When I came closer, I saw I was right. And the view was amazing.
Right underneath me, the waves smashed onto the rocks with force, but to the left, not very far away, there was a beach.
Hopefully we could just keep walking on the beach, until we reached the town the guides had been talking about.
'Feeling much better, I see.'
I slightly turned around. Zayn was smiling at me and came closer.
'I am.' I replied.
'It feels like such a long time ago we had a conversation.' Zayn said, staring at the view.
I nodded. 'Yeah... we haven't talked much.'
There was a short silence.
'You know, you've changed. A lot.'
I looked at him, not exactly knowing where he was talking about.
'I mean, after we broke up; I moved to another place and practically never heard from you again.'
I closed my eyes for a second. 'I'm sorry... it just was... a quite difficult period for me.' I spoke softly.
'Why? Because we broke up? You were the one who broke up with me.' Zayn said.
I sighed. 'No... not because we broke up. Other things. But can we not talk about that?'
Zayn stared at me for a moment. Then, he shrugged. 'Okay.'
'So... do you have somebody special at home?' I asked, changing the subject a bit.
He nodded, suddenly smiling. 'Yeah. I've met her on a party. She's a lot of fun.'
I smiled. 'I'm happy for you.'
Then, he looked down at me, intently looking at my face. 'And what about you?'
I lightly shook my head, feeling the burning sensation on my shoulder.
'But I assume you've had relationships after me, right?' He asked.
I shook my head again. 'Nope.'
'Seriously? I don't believe you. It's been three years, for Christ's sake.'
'So? I just haven't met anyone. And I've been travelling a lot.' I was getting annoyed. Just because he had the girls standing in a line for him, didn't mean I had the same.
We were silent again, just staring at the waves.
Suddenly, Zayn pointed at something on the horizon. 'Is that...' He didn't finish his sentence.
I squinted my eyes and gasped. 'It's a ship!'
The camp had changed into a madhouse. Everybody was running around as they quickly made plans.
I was just sitting, looking at what happened in front of me.
They decided we would walk to the beach as fast as possible and make a fire there. With a lot of smoke. We would try to use shiny objects to reflect the sunlight and signal the ship.
They got ready to leave and even though I really wanted to go with them; I was too weak.
'You guys go without me. I'm too weak to walk so fast.'
'Yeah, right. And we'll let you die here.' Louis scoffed.
'No, I'll follow later. Seriously, I'll only slow all of you down if I go with you.'
'Someone will have to stay with you. We'll be fine with six people.' Zayn said.
Before he could complain, Niall pushed Harry towards me. 'Harry will stay. Okay guys, move! Go, go, go!'
Just before Niall disappeared into the bushes, he turned his head and gave me a small wink.
I sighed. I had the feeling that this was going to be awkward.
