I grab five bags and bag up my Royal Farms stuff faster I've ever done anything. I make sure the cashier is still sound asleep and dash out the door. The unchecked-item sensors start beeping shrilly, and I run, not daring to look back. I turn the sharp corner around the side of Royal Farms and dive into the bushes that are behind the store. I peer through a crack between two "World's best snacks!" posters and see the cashier's head lift slightly. I hold back a laugh and it comes out a deep-throated gurgle. They slept through the beeps. It doesn't stop me from leaping out of the bushes on the opposite side of the store and making a run for it, though. The sensor being set off might summon the cops, who knows. I run until I reach a river. I can see the cemetery slightly in the distance. Right now I'm on a gigantic plain with a river running through it. Why didn't I "buy" shampoo at the store? I guess I'll wash my hair with soap. I see my reflection in the still water. It maybe the lighting, but my skin looks utterly pale white. I plunge into the river clothes and all, ("clothes" appear to be a black lace dress) and work every bit of filth from my body. Then I strip of my dress, wring it out, and lay it on a stone slab in the dirt to dry. After I'm squeaky clean, my dress is dry enough to wear. I slip it on, and the sun is half-risen. I feel a strange summoning to go back to the graveyard.
