Minho wasn't surprised when I ran out the door, looking for Newt.
Since the Runner's Cabin was in the forest, I didn't have to go far. But, unfortunately, I got lost along the way.
The forest looks small from the outside, but dang, this forest was big. I looked here and there for a sign of an exit. I even tried to find the Cabin again. But, with no luck. Everything looked the same. Every turn I made, every tree I passed. All the same.
Eventually, I came across a bench under a shady pine tree. Exhausted from all the running I've done today, I passed out on the bench. But before I went out, I screamed, "Find me!"
It seemed like only a few minutes before I woke again. The sun was setting.
"You are one troublesome Greenie." A smooth voice came from my left. I turned to see that same head of hair, reflecting the sunlight. I wanted to bury myself into it. I wanted to forget about the Maze. All I wanted was that soft honey hair.
"Newt." I turn my head to the side. "You came." I give a smile, but it isn't strong. I can sense my low energy. I feel a sharp pain in my leg and wince, clenching my teeth.
He puts a hand on my head and runs his fingers through my hair. "Hard to ignore a battle cry. It seems like you over-used your legs too." He glances over to my leg, which is shooting sharp pains up my body.
"Went. Looking. For you." I clasp the hand in my hair and pull it to my heart.
He smiles and squeezes my hand. "Here I am." He pauses. "I found you right after you passed out a few hours ago. You looked so peaceful. I waited for you to wake up."
I sit up, ignoring the yelling of my leg. "You waited here?" I raise my voice.
A look of concern passes over Newt's face. "Is that a bad thing?"
I close my eyes and loosen my grip on his hand. "No. It's just that-"
He kisses me on the cheek. "You talk too much for a girl in pain."
I blush. "Sorry." I turn my head to the side and drop his hand. "I just missed you."
He gives me a smirk. "Why me?"
I look up, into those golden brown eyes. Do I? I think.
In response to Newt, I push my lips onto his.
I never really took a liking to Greenies. So when Alexandra kisses me, I am filled with surprise.
Surprise because I followed the Greenie. Surprise because I usually hold back feelings. Surprise because I've never cared about anyone before. Surprise because Alexandra is kissing me. And surprise because I let her.
Her lips are soft against mine. Compared to her normal personality, she is so gentle. She puts an arm around my neck and pulls me closer. I put my hand up against her pink cheek and find it wet. I open my eyes. Hers are closed, but she's crying. I put my arms around her waist and pull her closer. I can smell cocoanuts again. I can feel her soft brown hair against my cheeks. I can hear her heartbeat.
She breaks off first and puts her head on my heart. She taps her fingers on the bench in rhythm to the beat. I close my eyes and listen to the beat.
Eventually, I get up and sit next to her on the bench. I place my hand on top of hers, not grabbing it. She doesn't grab mine either. After a little bit of silence, Alexandra's head falls on my shoulder, asleep. Soon, I do the same.
I wake up, the moonlight full on in my face. Night already?
I lightly shake Alexandra's shoulder. "Hey, Greenie." Her eyes flutter open and look straight at mine.
I help her sit up."We should probably get back to the Glade. People might start getting worried."
She nods and pushes herself off from the bench. Within the second, she yelps in pain and falls on the ground.
I run to her side. She looks up at me, her eyes wet. "My leg. I can't stand on it." She winces and puts her hand on her right leg.
I do the only thing I can. I pick her up on my shoulders and carry her. "No, Newt. Put me down." She is dozing off again.
I look straight ahead. "No. I have to get you back."
It takes me about ten minutes to find the Glade again. Everyone seems to have gone to sleep. Now where is her hammock?
I don't know where they placed her hammock, so I just go to mine. When I get there, Alexandra is passed out. I gently place her on my hammock. I pull out a blanket and spread it over her. Her hair is messy, covering her face. I take my finger and push it out of her eyes.
"Look who we have here."
I bolt up and turn around.
"Where have you two been?"
