The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Samuel Strongsword, a thief from Cyrodiil, crosses the border into Skyrim, a snowy province filled with magic, dungeons, and dangerous beasts. While there, he discovers he is the Dragonborn, a hero with the body of a mortal, and the soul of a dragon. He must harness their ancient magic of shouts to defeat Alduin, the Dragon God, the World Eater. NOTE: Not original, based off of the fifth title in the Elder Scrolls video game series.

20. Dragonslayer

Samuel, Felldir, Gormlaith, and Hakon charged out of the Hall of Valor. They ran across the whalebone bridge, and stopped at the edge of the path.

Tsun walked up to them. "The eyes of Shor are upon you today. Defeat Alduin, and destroy his soul-snare."

Felldir looked grim. "We cannot fight the foe in the mist!"

Gormlaith looked confident. "Clear Skies! Combine our shouts!"

The four heroes looked at the mist. In unison, they shouted LOH VAH KOOR!

The mist dissipitated. Several patches still hung in the air. They heard Alduin's voice shout back.

VEN MUL RIIK!

The mist returned, the clear area getting smaller.

"Again!" cried Gormlaith.

LOH VAH KOOR!

Sadly, Alduin once again shouted.

VEN MUL RIIK!

"Does his strength have no end?" said Hakon. "Is our struggle in vain?"

Gormlaith growled. "Stand fast! His strength is failing! Once more, and his might will be broken!"

LOH VAH KOOR!

The mist dissipitated completely. A large black shape stood overhead.

"Stand together and we shall defeat Alduin!" said Felldir.

"No escape this time, foul worm!" yelled Gormlaith.

"Stand fast! The fell worm's death is ours at last, the light returns!" said Hakon.

"Y-yeah!" said Samuel meekly. "You...uh...y-you're toast!"

Alduin rose up into the air. "Nust wo ni qilaan fen kos duuan!"

Gormlaith rose her massive greatsword into the air. "For Skyrim! For Shor! For Sovngarde's freedom!"

Felldir gripped his mace. Hakon heaved his battleaxe. Samuel drew his steel sword, his shield in the other hand. Alduin flew toward them. Before he got far, Samuel shouted.

JOOR ZAH FRUL!

Alduin was encompassed by blue light. He fell to the ground and the four heroes charged in and attacked. Felldir chopped at Alduin's legs, preventing him from moving much. Hakon chopped at his side, applying most of the brute force needed. Gormlaith stabbed at his wings, using Dragonrend whenever the effects wore off. Samuel sliced at his face, blocking Alduin's flames with his shield, and dodging his bites. They had the first part of the battle under their control, but their strength started to weaken. They realized their battle was mostly in vain. Alduin was a god. He couldn't be beat. The huge beast knew this.

He shook off Gormaith and kicked Felldir away. Hakon went flying, almost off the side of the bridge. He bit through Samuel's dwarven armor, making a huge gash in his chest. He flew into the air and laughed.

"Joore. Meyus ahrk sahlo. Hi truly lorot hi vis viik zey? Lingraav, hiifnu ol Zu'u al daar. .. Sovngarde. Shor fen kos viilut wah faas Alduin, rah do gral!"

His voice boomed in English in Samuel's head. "Mortals. Foolish and weak. You truly think you can defeat me? Watch, helpless as I destroy this...Sovngarde. Shor will be right to fear Alduin, god of destruction!"

The three other heroes regained their senses. Hakon's battleaxe had fallen into the chasm. Gormlaith's sword had been sliced in half by Alduin's talons. Felldir was still unconscious. Hakon ran over to him and helped him up. Alduin used a shout and meteors fell from the sky, as he did when he attacked Helgen. He flew toward the Hall of Valor. Samuel looked at his speed and did some quick math in his head. He would have enough time.

Samuel went to the gates of the Hall and put a Flame spell in each hand. He jumped in the air, and blasted the spell at the ground, launching himself in the air. The force was enough to get him to the roof of the Hall. He grabbed the edge and pulled himself up. Alduin was getting closer. Without thinking, he Shouted.

WULD!

He went flying off the roof, and fell toward the ground. He grabbed Alduin's tail and looked at the ground. WULD! The shout brought both of them crashing to the ground, Alduin losing the control of his flight. Samuel would fall too. Before he did, he shouted once more.

FAI!

He had turned into a spirit. His body gone, he was just a shade, like the three heroes. He slammed into the ground with Alduin. His body passed through the dragon's, and he regained physical form. Samuel drew his sword as Alduin got up.

JOOR ZAH FRUL!

Samuel leaped  onto Alduin's head and stabbed through his skull, his sword breaking through the other side. Samuel rolled off and pulled his sword out.

Alduin's scales began to crack. The cracks glowed white. As he died, Alduin screamed.

"Zu'u unslaad! Zu'u nis oblaan!"

Alduin exploded. There was nothing left. Samuel didn't absorb his soul. Alduin's essence shot into the air and scattered into the night sky.

Tsun ran over to them. "This was a mighty deed! The doom of Alduin encompassed at last, and cleansed is Sovngarde of his evil snare. They will sing of this battle in Shor's hall forever. But your fate lies elsewhere, Dragonborn. When you have completed your count of days, I may welcome you again, with glad friendship and bid you join the blessed feasting."

The three heroes lifted up Samuel and carried him the Hall of Valor, shouting "All hail the Dragonborn!"

Samuel spent the rest of the day there, celebrating his victory with other heroes of Skyrim. His fondest memory there was when Ysgramor clapped him the back as he just took a large swig of mead. The force caused him to spit the mead all over Jurgen Windcaller. Olaf One-Eye, who was the one who first captured a dragon in Dragonsreach, smiled when Samuel told him the story of capturing Odahviing.

After a day and a night of celebrating, Tsun grabbed Samuel by the shoulder.

"The time has come to return you home, Dragonborn. Fetch the three heroes, and meet me outside."

The four Heroes of Sovngarde, as the others had taken to calling them, met Tsun by the whalebone bridge.

"We once again thank you for your bravery, Dragonborn. Return now, to Nirn, with this gift of Shor: a Shout to bring a hero from Sovngarde in your of need."

Samuel stood still as he learned the Shout.

Tsun looked at him and shouted.
