Nerd to popular because of a single makeover.

27. twenty-six

"Hi. My name's Kate." That voice was so familiar. I was afraid to get out of my locker. I mean I wasn't going to fit inside of my locker, that's just impossible. I mean it's half the size they show it is in movies. Liars. All the producers got my hopes up of big comfy lockers that when you go through it, there's another cool room. Disney. Gotta love Disney for their imagination of magical rooms.

I finally got the nerve to get my head out and into the open. "You ok there? You got your--"

She stopped right as we locked eyes. "Spencer?" Great it was her. "I haven't seen you in ages! Omg! Where have you been?" "Here. Hoping you won't come back."

Eric nudged me and said, "Nice." I rolled my eyes and looked at Kate. "Sorry." "No worries. I earn it after being so mean to you and all." I gave her a mean smile.

"So Eric. This is the girl you were talking about?" "Yeah, you two know each other or something?" "Yeah." We both said it at the same time, but she was jumpy and I was angry. "So..." "Time to go to class."

I turned on my heels but Eric caught me by the arm. "You're not going anywhere." I rolled my eyes and said, "Why not?" "We all are going to be walking to our first period class together." "It's not like she's smart enough to--" Kate cleared her throat and said, "I'm not as dumb as I use to be."

I turned and looked at her. "Oh really. You didn't even know the difference between pie and pie for math."

She rolled her eyes and said, "My favorite pie is the food. The other pie is 3.141596." "It's actually 3.1415926." She rolled her eyes and said, "Once a nerd always a nerd." "I would watch that phrase know miss know it all." "When will this feud end? I really want to be friends with you." "I like it better when we're enemies."

She was trying to hold in her anger. "Ok. What started this. I swear I've been with Spencer all my life, but I never saw her confront someone with that much hate, and I've seen her confront someone with hate. Trust me it's scary."

"Why don't you tell him Kate? I mean, it was all your fault wasn't it that we became enemies for life." She glared at me with some hurt in her eyes. I smiled at her.

"It started when we were three years old. I was new to town and well you know her. I wanted to make new friends so I was pretty desperate and would do anything to get one. I spotted Darcy and Spencer. I liked both of them, but Spencer was always talking about how great her parents are. Darcy has great parents to, but she listened to Spencer. I couldn't handle being with Spencer, so I slowly stole Darcy away and became best friends with her."

"So, this is all because of you stealing Darcy away from Spencer?" We both nodded.

"And you and Darcy were actually friends?" "That was before Darcy was all sassy." "I like to see that Darcy." "Don't we all."

"Let me finish. There's more to then just me stealing Darcy." "You stole everything away from me." She glared at me and said, "I didn't mean to steal Trent from you, but yes, I stole everything from her. Popularity, everything." I rolled my eyes again. "Wait, whose Trent?" "My first crush." "Wasn't he a cutie to remember." "Yep."

"O. M. G. Kate? Is that really you?" Darcy came over and pushed me out of the way. It was like that first day of school all over again. They were all jabbering on how they missed each other and I was broken. I turned to Eric to let him see how hurt I was to see history replay itself in front of me, and he was hurt by my stare.

We started to walk and he said, "I'm so sorry. I--" "It's fine. Isn't it always? I mean look, no one even notices that I'm gone or was even there in the first place."

He looked back and turned forward. "I bet Darcy was just really excited. I mean they haven't see each other since when?" "Three days ago." He looked at me and I said, "Kate never left town. She moved schools because her mother didn't want her to be in a public school, so she moved her to a private school."

"How did you know they kept up?" "Facebook." "Oh."

I was looking at my phone throughout the whole time at a different table during lunch. Louis was sitting across from me and was on his too.

I finally looked up and said, "When will the screaming stop?" "I don't know, but tomorrow I'm bringing duck tape." I smirked and said, "I'll hold them down." He looked up and smirked back at me.

He looked over my shoulder and someone slammed their tray on our new table. "Nice to meet you too." "I'm sick of them. Darcy hasn't said hi to me every since she saw that Kate girl this morning. It's like I don't exist." "I feel ya."

He looked at me and said, "You can handle it. I've never felt this way before. I mean like I was popular all my life. You were never popular." "That's because that bitch that stole your girl, stole my popularity away from me and my friend Darcy."

Both Louis and Niall shifted in their seats and Louis put his phone away and said, "You care to explain?"

"I knew Kate when I was little. Darcy and I were actually friends and Darcy wasn't sassy like she is right now." "I'd like to see that Darcy." I looked at Louis and he said, "Sorry. I'm just saying." "Continue Spence."

"Kate was desperate for friends so she stole Darcy away from me and much more, like my first crush Trent, but she left my life fully after seventh grade, five years after she transferred out of the public school system."

"So, she moved to a private school let me guess?" I nodded.

Harry came and scooted Niall away from me and pulled a seat where he was sitting and said, "I swear please tell me one of you has duck tape." Louis threw his hands up in annoyance and said, "Dude, I wish."

Harry rolled his eyes and wrapped his arm around me and drew me closer to him and kissed me saying, "Missed you all morning." "Yeah. Me too." He smiled and looked back at everyone else.

"So, you guys wanna hang out somewhere?"

"Hey, what's going on with you and Harry?" "Nothing for you to ruin." "Look, I'm not the same person as you use to know. I--"

I turned and she almost ran into me, "What?" "Don't make promises that you can't keep. Gotcha?" "I'm not the same person! I swear I changed. I can prove it to you."

I turned around and walked up to my car. "Nice car." I looked over at her and glared. "Look, just shut it. I'm never going to fall for your little tricks. Got it?"

"Spence." "Don't call me that." She sighed and said, "I really want to start over with you." "No! Just get away from me."

I opened the door and she stopped me. "I have to tell you something!" I slammed the door shut and started the engine and drove off.

I came home and walked up to my room. My sister was jabbering on her phone to another one of Darcy's minions. I guess Kate was taking over again.

I went to my room and to my desk. I opened my book and started my homework.

After a while, my phone started to vibrate repeatedly. I looked over and it was Facebook updates. I shut it off and put it on no disturb.

My sister barged in and said, "Spencer Calder! Check your Facebook now! Omg! Eric!"

That got my attention and said, "Huh?" "Open you Facebook!"

She rushed over and opened my laptop and got onto my Facebook. I scrolled down all the posts and then I stopped. I could believe it.

It was a picture of Eric and Kate together in the hall. He had a bouquet of roses and a teddy and a banner in the background with Jake and Josie holding it up and it said, "Kate... Prom? -Eric"

I didn't know what to say. "She said yes!" No dip. He posted the picture on freaking Facebook.

I looked down at the caption and it said, "She said yes to being my girlfriend and now this? Can this get any better?"

That's what she was trying to tell me at the parking lot. Eric and her were in a relationship and she wanted to start all over with me, but did she really change? I don't know what to trust. My heart or my mind.

The next day I went to school and I didn't care what I looked like. I had a high pony tail. I put light makeup and a salmon vineyard vine t-shirt on with light skinny jeans that was rolled at the bottom with white converses, that were new.

I rushed in and saw Eric and Kate talking together. Gross. They were flirting with each other. Worse. Eric was holding Kate's hand. They only knew each other for a few days.

"What is this? Eric! You only knew her for how many days, and now your holding hands and flirting on top of my locker?" "Spence I--" "Don't talk, just get off of my locker. You two disgust me! You know what she did to me!"

I sighed and said, "I don't think friends date the enemy." "Your the one to talk." "What's that suppose to mean?"

He threw his hands up and said, "Oh, you know exactly what I mean. Harry? Remember, he bullied you." "You don't have to talk to me like I'm a baby." "Well, right now this argument is as immature as a baby. For your information actually too, I've known Kate for three years and dated her ever since I got out of rehab. Yeah, and she visited me everyday. I'm just guessing you two didn't cross paths and now I'm happy that you two didn't."

He walked off with that. Kate looked back and had sorrow in her eyes and mouthed, "Sorry." I had hurt in my eyes.

I turned toward my locker and got my books. The bell rang. Great. Kate and Eric are in my first period class.
