Nerd to popular because of a single makeover.

31. thirty

I realized that I was standing stupidly in the doorway. "Spence."

I snapped my head right at Eric and he motioned me to sit in the seat right next to him. I almost missed my seat because I was staring at Kate. What was she doing here?

"Nice of you to join us Ms. Calder. Now Kate, you may continue."

She motioned toward Kate and she said, "Well, before I continue I want Spencer to catch up." I hated her right then. Everyone stared at me. They were probably wondering how she knew my name.

"I'm here for a broadway show. You know, the one that Josie told you. I talked to her this morning before the bell rang. So, you can probably guess what it's about, or did she not tell you because that's what I'm about to talk about."

She had her little sassy attitude on me. I hate her so much.

"I don't know what's it's about, but Josie did mention about a show." Kate smiled with pleasure and said, "Well, with that I'll continue where I was."

She flipped her hair and held out a form with the title "The Notebook". You've got to be joking. I didn't know they put that into a broadway.

"I wrote it based off of The Notebook and my teacher thought it would be nice to title it. The only difference is that instead of having the rich girl and two boys, one poor, one rich, it will have a rich boy with two girls, one poor, one rich."

I raised my hand totally disagreeing with this. "Yes. Spencer." "I think you just ruined it."

The murmurs around me agreed completely, and she didn't like it. "Well, if you think I ruined it tell me if you can think of any better ways to do it." "I'll tell you a better way. How about we just leave it like that, and if you want to add another girl in there, why not just add a best friend for the main girl. I think that is so much better."

The class cheered and I stood up and walked in front of her. The teacher stopped me and said, "Ms. Calder, I'm sure that Ms. Williams here worked very hard on that broadway. I think we should give it a chance."

"I don't think it will be a show if there'll be no people in it though. You know what they say about one man shows right." "Ms. Calder! She is a student that chose our school to participate in the city wide broadway show that will be played in Los Angeles. Would that change your mind?"

"No. Not at all. She ruined the story Ms. Moss. Ruined."

I turned on my heels and sat back down in my chair. I felt a hand pat my back and people whispering, "You're totally right about her." "I hate her for doing that." "I'm not trying out."

I smirked and looked at her to continue. "Ms. Calder, I'd like to see you after class with Ms. Williams. Kate you may continue."

Kate cleared her throat and looked at me saying, "I will be hanging this during lunch at the bulletin board. Anyone is welcome to join."

Whispers started and Kate got uneasy. I smiled in pleasure at her and crossed my arms.

She stormed out awkwardly and embarrassed. Someone knocked me on the right and I turned to see Eric glaring at me. "Why did you do that?" "You two still together?" "Yes, what does that have to do with anything?"

"Oh, it deals with a lot. It makes me hate her more because she's dating one of my ex best friends and stole him away from me. Oh, and if you see him can you tell him that he is well missed by his real friends. Thanks."

A ruler snapped onto my desk and I looked up to see Ms. Moss staring right at me. No wonder she didn't get married. Yikes.

"Eric, you will be joining Ms. Williams and Calder after class. I can see that you're part of this."

I smirked over at Eric and he glared at me. His next class was something that he couldn't be late to, Duel Enrollment Literature. "He'll probably need a note."

"I will write you one personally by hand, and I am very disappointed in your behavior Ms. Calder. You are usually the one that I can depend upon when guests are here." "Well, that guest and me aren't really what you call friends." She banged the ruler one more time on the desk and cussed at me under her breath while she walked back to the board to start today's lesson.

"Spencer! Where is my dress?" "Which one?" I heard a groan and some stamping down the hall. I swear that girl is going to drive me insane enough to kill her.

"Spence, I saw you wear them two days ago. Don't act like I... wait! They're in the dryer! I just washed them because I wore them two days ago. Sorry Spence." She started to run out and down the hall and I yelled, "Try not to be such an airhead will you!"

Something nocked on my window and I went up to it. I looked from the curtain and it was Eric. Eric?

I opened the window and yelled out, "What?" He patted the air with his hand and said, "Don't let anyone know I'm here. Help me up." I rolled my eyes and came back with a rope from the camping bag from my dad's room.

Once he got into my room he rolled onto the floor and said, "Glad that you're here." "I live here."

He smiled and that made me a little uneasy. "Why are you nice to me all of a sudden?" He held a finger up. He must be really exhausted by the climb. Dumb me for making him talk.

After a few minutes of me lying on my bed, he came up from above and tapped his nose with mine. "Get off me." He smirked and said, "Still with Harry, huh?" "Still have feelings for me, huh?"

I regretted saying that, but he took it nicer then I expected him to. "I'm sorry I didn't--" "It's fine. I'm use to the rejects." He smiled weakly and that made me want to cry. I mean he was my best friend and I didn't want to ruin that. He knew me better then Harry and Josie. That says a lot.

"Why did you come here?" I looked down at my fingers and played with them.

"You." I looked up and opened my mouth, but no words came out. I needed to think before I open it. He chuckled and said, "I love it when you're speechless."

I closed my mouth and looked back down. "Sorry." He let out a deep sigh and said, "I was really hoping that you and Harry weren't together when I came up here." "I can see that."

I could feel him shift uneasily on the bed. "Look. If that is all you came here to do, then just leave ok? Harry won't be splitting up anytime sooner ok? Nothing will change between us." He looked up and saw the angry in my eyes. I saw the hurt in his eyes. "Eric--" "No, I get it. I'm not your type. You like the bad boys and not the good ones. I get it. Good girls like bad guys until they turn bad themselves. Then, they just go and look for a good boy to turn bad."

"What are you trying to say?" "I think you know exactly what I'm trying to say."

I shifted to one side and said, "Eric, I don't get what you're sa--" "God, Harry did turn your head inside out. Spence, I'm saying don't come back sorry to me all brokenhearted and use me as a rebound."

I looked into his eyes, "Harry's not like that." "Yeah, so did I with Kate." "What?" "Spence, people don't change. Nothing can change them. I want you to look out for Harry." "Wait, what did Kate do to you?" "Oh, now you care about me?"

I threw my hands up and said, "Eric, this isn't a game. What did Kate do to--" "She cheated on me with your fucking boyfriend." That shut my mouth up.

I shook my head and said, "No. No, you saw wrong. She was probably trying to steal him away fr--" "Spence, face the truth. You two have been fighting and have been on and off. Face it. You two are not meant for each other."

"You're making this up! I don't believe you." "Oh, you don't believe me." He looked around and threw his hands up in disappointment.

He looked me straight in the eyes and said, "When have I ever lied to you? When we were together, I don't remember a single fight." "We weren't even together for a whole week."

"Well, this is a good time to try!" "I don't think two people should be together if one of them hates the other."

He stared at me with his mouth open speechless. Damn, I really need to watch my mouth. I sighed and rubbed my temples in frustration, "Eric, please don't--" "I'm giving you until the night before prom. It's in three days."

He got up and went back out the window. I didn't look back at him. I didn't believe him. I couldn't believe him. Kate was trying to steal Harry away from me now. I couldn't let that happen. I know she's probably going to try to come back and win prom queen and him king, or she's probably going to convince Harry to play the part of the boyfriend of the main character on that stupid, messed up broadway show.

I needed to stop her from ruining my life. Eric was wrong. I changed Darcy. That means I can change Kate.

I turned and looked at the window. Eric was still there. He was staring at me, but when he snapped out of it and just prepared to go out the window. I turned back and my phone started to vibrate. I checked and it was Josie.

I ignored it. She left a voicemail and text. Someone else called me. It was Jake, he left a voicemail and then Darcy left a text.

The phone rang again and I picked it up and threw it across the room. Something made it pick up to speaker.

"Babe. Babe. Please answer me." I stood up and looked at where I threw the phone.

I heard a deep sigh and some moans in the backgrounds. That made me wince. "Babe. I swear--" He started to moan. "What the..." I said that then covered my mouth hoping he wouldn't know that I'm listening.

I got up to the phone and picked it up. I heard giggles and more moaning. He's... no this must be a prank or something.

"Babe. Your--" He screamed. I dropped the phone in disgust. I heard giggles and said, "Alright I think she's heard enough." "Yeah. Bye Spencer. Nice being with you for sometime. I have to say you were really good that one afternoon."

"Hear that Spence? Oh, this is Kate by the way." A giggle and then she hung up. Why didn't I hang up the phone earlier?

I turned and saw Eric still on the window looking at me. I started to cry. He came over and just sniffled. "It's cold outside." "Mhmm."

He held me close and said, "People can't change Spence. You need to realize that once you do, everything will be set in stone. I promise. You will find the right person. It might not even be me."

"I don't think I can go to prom." "I understand if you don't."
