“Every time you move to the beat it gets harder for me, and you know it, know it, know it.” Standing in the front row of the Mohegan Sun Arena, did I just see this correctly? Are my eyes deceiving me? I think I just saw Luke Hemmings of 5 Seconds of Summer sing that verse of “Don’t Stop” to me, then wink. At me. Is this real life? No way, I have to be going mental. As the show progresses, I try to forget about my hallucination.
I’m enjoying “Good Girls”, the show is coming to an end, when I feel a hand on my shoulder that interrupts my thoughts. I turn around to see a Security Guard, which is very frightening, even though he doesn’t look angry at all. I think he even has a smile on his face.
“Is there a problem, Sir?” I ask, trying to be as polite as possible.
“No problem, Ma’am. But I have a request from Mr. Hemmings for you to meet him backstage. If that is alright with you, I ask you to follow me Ms,” No way. Maybe I wasn’t dreaming?
“Of course Sir, lead the way,” I try not to stutter from my excitement. Luke Hemmings, he requested me backstage. I follow the tall security guard through a sea of people, into a clearing, up a stair case, and a few doors. By the time we end up backstage, 5 Seconds of Summer had just finished their last song, and were headed backstage after saying goodbye to their crowd.
They enter the room, hand off their instruments to the backstage crew, and Luke looks up, a big smile stretching across his face. The security guard waves goodbye to me as he leaves the area to help escort the crowds out. I notice Luke walking my way.
"Hello, love." Luke greets me. His Australian accent flows beautifully from his lips.
"Hi, I'm Jocelyn," I try my best not to stutter, I'm so nervous. Who wouldn't be nervous standing next to Luke Hemmings? He grabs my hand and kisses it.
"Pleasure to meet you, I'm Luke. You are probably wondering why you're here, you know, brought backstage mysteriously. I was singing onstage, and couldn't help but notice you. Your eyes sparkling under the lights, you moving to the rhythm. I thought you were beautiful and would hate myself forever if I let you get away from me without letting you know that you are gorgeous."
"I.. I'm speechless. no one has ever told me that before. Thank you so much, Luke. That means a lot me to me. Like a lot." Shit. I stuttered.
"You're welcome, love. Would you allow me to take you on a date tomorrow night? I know you don't know me, but Jocelyn, I want to know everything about you." Man, does he have a way with women. How could i say no? I would be crazy to say no. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"I would love to, Luke" i write my phone number down on a napkin, and he walks me to my car, of course accompanied by four Security Guards so he doesn't get mobbed. I kiss his cheek, and I'm off to my hotel.
What a night.
