5. You're comming with me
I made my way faster now, filled with longing for the warm fire, drink and food that awaited me. My mother, father and sister would welcome me indoors; they would see to my ankle, hug me... “I should leave now.” Ferns voice jolted me back to reality and I realised that we still had quite a way to go yet. “What! No, you’re coming to meet my parents,” I commanded firmly, then in a softer tone, “please Fern?” Fern sighed, only now I realised that she had a strange look of both longing and sadness written across her face. “No, really, I need to get back home,” Fern pleaded. But I wasn’t having any of it. “You are coming with me, end of!” I almost shouted, causing the birds in the nearby trees to take flight. Fern bit her lip, shrugged her shoulders and sighed. “Fine” she complied sullenly, then Fern smiled. “Well, what are you waiting for? I thought you wanted to get home, it’s getting dark after all.” She was right; the sun was dipping down under the horizon, causing the surrounding sky to flush a deep crimson red. I turned my eyes back to the path ahead and started limping towards my destination.
