Looking from afar

Sarah has always been a nobody. She does well in school and she has a bunch of friends. Sarah is happy about her life, but nobody knows her in school. There is only one person Sarah wished would notice her. And that was Matt. Will Sarah always be watching from far away or will she find the courage to make something happen?

16. sleepover

Sarah's POV

"I wish I could have a relationship like them." I said after the movie, referring to Sherman and Penny.

"You want to go on life threatening journeys?" Matt asked giving me a weird look.

I giggled. "No. I want to have a strong friendly relationship with my crush."

He looked at me silently studying my face. After a couple of seconds he finally spoke up. "I don't really understand." He said.

"I mean like the friendship you and I have, but better."

"So you mean you have a crush on me." He asked raising an eyebrow.

I could feel myself blushing. "No. That's not what I meant." I said feeling really embarrassed.

"Well then what did you mean?" He asked.

"Just forget it." I told him laughing.

He laughed too. "Okay." He said.

We sat in silence for another couple of minutes. I can't believe he just asked me that. What if he found out. I probably wouldn't be able to live if he did. Finally he broke the silence.

"We should probably get to sleep. We have school tomorrow." He said.

I sighed and stood up checking my phone to see what time it was. 12:45. "Wow, I didn't realize how late it is." I said surprised suddenly realizing how tired I was.

I walked over to my side of my bed and pulled back the covers. Matt was wearing a tee shirt and sweats so he didn't have to change. He climbed into bed too and pulled the sheets over his head. I laughed when he pretended to snore. He pulled the sheets off his head and looked at me. He burst out laughing too as I crawled into bed. I pulled up the sheets and stared at the ceiling. After a couple of minutes I rolled over on my side to find Matt laying on his side looking at me. We stared at each other for a couple of minutes slowly I started closing my eyes. I was falling asleep when I heard Matt talking.

"I wish I had the courage." He said then I fell asleep.

Matt's POV

"I wish I could have a relationship like them." Sarah said when the movie was over.

"You want to go on life threatening journeys?" I asked confused.

She giggled. I really like her laugh. "No. I want to have a strong friendly relationship with my crush."

"I don't really understand." I said after a couple of seconds of studying her face.

"I mean, like the friendship you and I have but better." She said.

I raised an eyebrow. "So you mean you have a crush on me." I asked sort of hoping she would say yes. I don't even know where that thought came from.

She blushed. "No. That's not what I meant."

"Well then what did you mean?" I asked.

"Just forget it." she said laughing.

I laughed at how pretty her laugh is. "Okay." I said.

We stopped talking for a couple of minutes. I really admire Sarah. Her laugh is so pretty.

Soon I broke the silence. "We probably should get to sleep. We have school tomorrow." I told her.

She sighed and stood up. She looked down at her phone then walked over to her side of her bed and pulled down the sheets. I climbed into bed. I pulled the sheets over my head and pretended to snore. I heard Sarah laughing so I pulled the covers down to look at her. Her laugh was contagious and I started laughing too. She crawled into bed too and pulled the sheets up. I watched her staring up at the ceiling. After a couple of minutes she turned on her side to face me. We stared at each other for a couple of minutes until her eyes started closing. I made sure she was asleep before I started talking. "I wish I had the courage."

Sarah's POV

When I woke up I felt someone beside me. I looked over to find Matt sleeping next to me. I remembered what happened last night and immediately felt nauseous. After a couple of minutes I finally calmed down. I finally realized how close we were laying and my heart started pounding. I looked down to find that the cover had slid off us during the night. As I reached down I saw our feet were intertwined. I was freaking out already but by now, I was ready to have a heart attack. I couldn't believe how close we were. I lay there studying his face. I can't believe that I went from never talking to Matt before to sleeping in the same bed as him. I felt him start to wake up so I quickly shut my eyes hoping that he hadn't noticed my staring. A minute later I felt eyes on me. I slowly opened my eyes to see Matt's gray blue eyes.

"What time is it?" I asked hoping we didn't sleep through my alarm.

"5:27." He said after looking at his phone.

I sighed. "I have an hour until I have to go." I told him sitting up.

He sat up too and got out of bed. "Text me and I'll pick you up and we can drive to school together." He said opening the window.

"Sure." I said getting up to make the bed.

He stopped and watched me for a couple of seconds before offering to help. I agreed and he made the bed for me. I put all the pillows on of course. When we were done he came over and gave me a hug. I hugged back and sighed. "What's wrong?" He asked, his voice muffled by my hair.

"Nothing. I'm just tired." I told him.

He pulled away from the hug and looked at me. "I'll see you later." He said climbing out the window.

After Matt left I went into my closet to get dressed. I put on my gray sweater with a white star on it and black leggings. I shoved my feet into my tall light brown boots then went downstairs and put a couple of waffles into the toaster. I let them toast as I got my lunch together. A minute later my waffles were done so I sat down and ate. As I ate, I watched Pretty Little Liars. It got so intense that I didn't even realize what time it was. I looked up when the episode was over to find that it was already 6:20. I quickly took out my phone and  texted Matt.

Hey. I'm ready to go.

A second later he replied.

K. I'm sitting outside.

I looked outside to see his car sitting in front of my house. I grabbed my bag and walked out the door, locking it behind me. I walked to his car and sat down putting my crutches in the back. On the way to the school we told each other jokes. They were all really bad. By the time we got to school I was laughing so hard I was crying. He parked and we got out of the car, him carrying my bag. We finally got to the doors where I saw Trisha walking in. I grabbed my bag from him and put in on thanking him for the ride and walking away to catch up with Trisha.
