Mei Li's POV
I was standing in the hallway listening to Sarah talking about how amazing Derek is. After a couple of minutes, I leaned against the lockers and looked around. My eyes rested on Jake. I could feel myself start to blush. I tuned out the rest of the world and stared. It seemed like he was glowing. Like he was some sort of honored god. I smiled to myself and continued to stare.
"Mei Li!" I heard Sarah yell. She scared me which caused me to drop the folders I was holding. They hit the floor with a loud slapping sound and as I bent down to pick up the papers I glanced over at Jake. He was laughing with his friends and I could hear him from here.
"What do you want." I said to Sarah as I stood up. "Where you even-" She stopped. "you're blushing." She said a big smile on her face.
"No I'm not." I said blushing a darker red.
"Yes you are." She squealed. "Who is it?"
"What are you talking about?" I asked pretending to not know what she was talking about.
"Don't play dumb with me." She said giving me a look. "You only blush like that when you like someone."
"Is it that obvious?" I groaned.
She squealed and jumped up and down, "Yes!" She yelled causing a couple of people to look over, which made Sarah blush. "So who is it?" She whispered.
"If I tell you, you have to promise not to tell anyone."
"Jake as in Jake standing over there?" She asked pointing.
"Don't point." I hissed smacking her hand.
"He's coming over here!" She whispered. "I'll meet you at lunch." Sarah said quickly walking away.
"Wow, nice friend I have." I muttered under my breath as I turned and opened my locker.
"Hey. Are you Mei Li?" I heard someone ask.
I turned my head to find Jake standing there holding a piece of paper. "Yeah why?"
"One of your papers slid over to me." He said handing me the paper.
"Thanks." I said taking it from him.
"Nice J's." He said.
I looked down to see a bunch of block letter J's drawn on my paper. Immediately I started blushing. "it's the only block letter I'm good at." I lied.
He only nodded. "Well. Bye." He said walking away.
That was embarrassing, I'm such an idiot I thought as I shoved the paper in my locker, closing it and walking to lunch.
I wasn't paying attention in math. I was to busy staring at Jake who by the way was sitting right in front of me. Right now he was trying to get Addison Deer to go out with him. I know he's a player and even if he did somehow ask me out, he would just end up breaking my heart. I knew it would be better if I just stayed away from him, but I just couldn't help myself. I guess I sort of hoped that I would be the one to change him and we would fall in love and get married, but that's never ever going happen. I watched as Jake got his way and Addison agreed to go out with him, even though she had a boyfriend.
Pretty soon the bell rang and I grabbed my things, heading to my locker to put them away. As I walked over to my locker I saw Sarah walking over with Derek. I quickly grabbed my things and shoved them in my bag so I didn't have to be near Sarah and Derek. It's not like I don't like them, they're my best friends, but when they are together, it just makes other people uncomfortable. Sort of like Isabella and Yash. As they neared my locker I slammed it shut and grabbed Sarah's wrist and pulled her with me to the library do we could get some homework done.
When we got to the library we put our stuff down and stared the English. We needed to pick out a book to read and then answer a ton of questions. "So what book are you reading?" Sarah asked but before I could answer Jake appeared and leaned up against the shelf.
"Sarah you're going on a date with me I'll pick you up at 8 on Friday, wear something hot and sexy." He said with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Um, I'm not going anywhere with you. I have a boyfriend. Plus jerk isn't my type." Sarah shot.
I watched Jake as his eyes got darker and he stepped closer to Sarah. "I'll see you on Friday." He said grabbing Sarah's wrist. "And you will wear something sexy." He spat their faces almost touching. I'll admit he was acting like a jerk, and I will admit that it made me like him a just a little less, but I couldn't help how I felt.
"No" Sarah hissed back freeing her wrist and pushing him back a little.
He gave her a look that could kill and stepped forward again. "This isn't over." He hissed, glanced at me and walked away.
