Looking from afar

Sarah has always been a nobody. She does well in school and she has a bunch of friends. Sarah is happy about her life, but nobody knows her in school. There is only one person Sarah wished would notice her. And that was Matt. Will Sarah always be watching from far away or will she find the courage to make something happen?

Sarah's POV

Today was the day. I was going to get my cast off. I tried calling Matt a bunch of times but he wouldn't answer. I left a bunch  of messages but I finally couldn't wait any longer. I called Derek.

After a couple of rings he picked up. *Convo*

S: Hey.

D: Hey. What's up?

S: So Matt was supposed to come with me to get my cast off but he's not answering his phone so I don't know if he's going to come. Would you mind coming with me instead?

D: Sure. I'll be over in a couple of minutes.

Then he hung up. I watched TV while I was waiting. Finally the doorbell rang. I got up and went to go open the door. As soon as I opened the door Derek scooped me up bridal style and grabbed my crutches from me. I shrieked and yelled at him to put me down.

"Now walking wouldn't be that much fun would it?" He said.

"I hate you." I said to him laughing.

"You know you like me." He said.

I rolled my eyes. "Fine. I like you."

"Yay!" He screamed almost dropping me but I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck and screamed a little. "Whoa! Desperate much?" He said.

I gasped and playfully smacked his chest. "How rude." I said as I leaned up and kissed him. He slowly put me down as we kissed. We pulled away and I smiled. I turned around and opened the car door as Derek slapped my butt. i gasped and turned around but he was already making his way around the car with my crutches. I opened the door and got in putting my legs over the drivers seat before he opened the door. As he opened the door he picked up my legs and sat down putting my legs on his lap. He reached into the back and put my crutches there. As we drove I sat with my back against the door and my legs on Derek's lap and studied his face.

After a couple of minutes he smiled and looked at me for a couple of seconds before turning his attention back to the road. "What?" He asked putting his hand on my thigh. I reached out and put my hand in his, slowly stroking his knuckles. We stopped at a red light and he turned to look at me. We smiled as we looked into each other's eyes. Suddenly  the car behind us beeped and he jumped. I laughed at him and he gave me a fake disapproving look. "Don't do that young lady." He said in a deep manly voice and I laughed even more. "What's so funny?" He asked with the same voice. I laughed even harder and he joined in.

Finally I stopped laughing and looked at him. "So." I said awkwardly.

"So." He said mocking me.

I laughed a little and rolled down my window. I turned to feel the cold air hit my face. It felt so good because the car was so hot. I laughed as Derek told me jokes as I looked out the window. We stopped at another red light. He told a really funny joke causing me to laugh really loud which made everyone outside turn to look at me. I didn't really care because none of those people would ever see me again, except for one. Matt was walking through the park and he turned to look at me. I quickly leaned back hoping he wouldn't see me. Finally when I figured he looked away I leaned forward and looked out the window again. I was obviously wrong because he was still standing there staring. The minute he saw me he looked kind of angry. He looked like that for a while whenever he saw me. I would see him with Kayla looking happy and then he would see me and look angry. Finally the light turned green. I looked at Matt one last time my eyes filled with hurt that he blew off coming with me to get my cast off to walk in the park alone. A tear rolled down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away. I wouldn't cry over him any more. I've had enough of that. There was no chance for us anyway.

Derek and I sat in silence for the rest of the car ride. after a while I had closed the window. I was looking at my reflection in the window trying to figure out why Derek liked me. I always thought that no one would ever like me, not even become my boyfriend.

"Hey." Derek said softly, "What are you thinking about?" He asked.

"Nothing." I lied.

He looked at me. "Don't lie to me."

I sighed. "Why do you like me?" I blurted out.

He looked at me like I was crazy. "What?"

"You heard me." I said waiting for an answer.

He sighed and pulled into a parking spot. He turned off the car and turned to look at me. "I like you because you are just so amazing. I like your personality, your laugh, the way you bite your lip when you're nervous and play with your bracelet when you're unsure. I like the way you jump around when you're excited and do nothing when you're sad. I like your hair, your eyes and your smile. You're just so damn pretty. I like everything about you." He said. By the time he finished I had tears in my eyes. He leaned over and kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist. I never wanted this moment to end but sadly he pulled away. "We should get inside." He said and I groaned. I slowly pulled my legs off his lap and he got out of the car taking my crutches with him. I opened my door and got out. Derek walked around to my side of the car and handed me my crutches. I leaned up and gave him a peck on the lips. "That's all I get after what I just said to you?" He asked pretending to be offended.

I laughed. "Thank you for that. I love everything about you too." I told him smiling.

"That's all I get?" He asked laughing.

"You'll get more later." I said mysteriously walking away.

"I like the sound of that." He said and I laughed.

When we got home we went right to my room. I closed the door and looked and Derek. He had a smirk on his face and I bit my lip. I slowly walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed back. He sat down and pulled me into his lap deepening the kiss. His tongue touched my bottom lip and I let him in. He pulled away and flipped us over so that he was hovering above me, his arms on either side of my head. He leaned down and kissed me again. Suddenly Derek's phone rang. He groaned and pulled it out. He laughed and put it on speaker.

"Get a room!" The person on the other line said and I immediately knew it was Matt.

"We are in a room." Derek said and I laughed.

"Well I can see you so close your blinds." He said.

I lightly shoved Derek and he rolled off me. I looked out my window to see Matt looking at us. I smiled and waved blushing.

"When did he move there?" Derek whispered in my ear. I laughed.

"A couple of weeks ago." I told him. "How could you not know that? Your best friends."

"Well since we started dating he's sort of been ignoring me." He whispered back.

I stared in shock at Matt. "Are you talking about me?" He asked giving me a weird look.

"What would you ignore Derek?!" I yelled at him.

He looked down and refused to look back up. "I don't know." He mumbled.

I sighed and looked down. "I should go. I'll let u get back to what you were doing." Matt said glumly and hung up.

"Well that sort of ruined the mood." Derek said and I smiled.

Matt's POV

I was just about call Sarah and apologize for blowing her off when I heard a car door. I looked out my front bedroom window and saw Sarah getting out of the car. I didn't recognize the car so I thought it was just one of her friends. All of a sudden I saw Derek sneak up behind her and scoop her up. I heard her shriek. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a quick peck. I was so mad. I just couldn't stand them together. I was more mad at myself for not telling Sarah how I felt earlier. I turned away and laid down on my bed. I stared up at my ceiling and thought about Sarah. I stood up and grabbed my phone from my desk and dialed Derek's number. I looked out my window to see Derek laying on top of Sarah on her bed. After a couple of ring I saw him pull out his phone. The second he answered I yelled at him.

"Get a room!" I yelled looking at them.

"We are in a room." He said back and I heard Sarah laugh in the background. I loved her laugh. Every time I heard it my heart would beat faster.

"Well I can see you so close your blinds." I said.

I watched as Sarah shoved Derek of her and look at me. She smiled and blushed.

Derek whispered something in her ear and she laughed. She whispered something back and he whispered back to her. I saw Sarah's eyes open wide. She stared at me in shock. "Are you talking about me?" I asked giving them a weird look.

Suddenly she started screaming. "How could you ignore Derek?!" She shouted and I pulled the phone away from my ear and look down. I had figured that if I ignored Derek then I slowly would forget about how jealous I was.

"I don't know." I mumbled. "I should let you get back to what you were doing." I said and hung up. I closed my blinds and laid back down on my bed. Then I got a text from Kayla. Why couldn't she just leave me alone? The only reason I got back together with her was so that I could forget about Sarah. That obviously hadn't worked. Slowly I fell asleep thinking about Sarah.
