The Waiting Man

This is a story for part of my GCSE English coursework, I would really appreciate what you all think of it and whether you would mind leaving some feedback. Thank you.

1. The Journey

The silhouette of the city behind an orange sky stood out like a diamond in a pile of rocks. It was beautiful, but not in the way you'd expect. Behind every decorated street, lay woman selling their bodies. In the back of every exotic shop, was an orphan baby starving. However, in one small apartment above the city's main theatre, was a man. Now this man was not the richest, not the smartest or the kindest, but he was a man, and he had a story...

Come, let me lead you to him. He's been waiting for you to discover him for a long time now, and I don't think he wants to wait any longer. The old floorboards on the stairs to his room creep under your feet, and you can hear the scuffling of rats in every corner. You're not sure if you want to continue on your journey and meet this man, but then again, you have no choice.

He has a story he wishes to share with you. Only you. If you were to tell anyone else his story, the consequences may be severe. But it's alright, because you're not going to tell anyone else...

The stench of drugs and smoke hit you in the face like a brick wall, and you notice that the place is full of empty alcohol bottles and scrunched up pieces of paper. I'm afraid that this is where I must leave you, but fret not. We shall see each other again soon, I'm sure...
