"Hehe, it's nothing," Luke says, trying to give me a smile.
"What happened?'" I ask, touching his bruise with my thumb.
He flinches, then speaks.
"You see, I jumped on the bed but landed wrong."
I give him a confused look, and he continues on.
"I ended up hitting my stomach from the corner of your bed and my eye hit the side."
I groan, then softly say, "Don't do that next time."
"Whatever." Luke mumbles, then rises up from the floor.
I stand up and walk out the door mumbling, "I'll get you some ice."
I hate seeing him hurt, and I felt guilty. This was partially my fault. I walk down the stairs and into the kitchen. I see my mom sitting at the table reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. She sees me and asks, "What happened? I heard shouting then a thud."
"Uhh nothing, Luke just fell. You know how clumsy he is."
I avoid eye contact with her and open the freezer, getting the ice and putting it into two plastic sandwich bags. I quickly walk back upstairs and luckily my mom didn't ask what I was getting.
"Luke?" I call his name.
I walk into my room and find Luke laying on my bed.
"Take off your shirt." I order.
"Wow Charlie, you just can't get enough of me." he says, smirking.
I roll my eyes and he sits up, peeling off his t-shirt. There was a big dark purple bruise forming on his stomach.
"You dumbass." I say quietly so that he couldn't hear.
I walk over to my bed and hand him the two bags of ice.
"It's too cold." he pouts.
"Well, what do you want me to do?"
"Get me 2 paper towels."
"No, get it yourself."
"But I'm injured! I can't move."
He pretends to groan, and I laugh.
"Fine, but only because you're my best friend."
I go in my bathroom and rip two pieces of paper towels, then walk back out.
"Here." I say, giving it to him.
"Doctor Charlie, I need you to help me."
He fake groans again.
"But you're a big boy now, you can do it yourself."
Luke sticks out his bottom lip, but this time I didn't agree.
He rolls over and buries his head in my pillow. I climb on the bed and sit criss-cross-applesauce. I rake my fingers through his hair, then say in a playful voice, "Aww, I'm so sorry Lukey."
He doesn't reply. I pull my hand away from his hair then say, "Forgive me?"
Luke slowly sits up from the bed and sits in from of me. I stare at him, and he stares at me. Then he lunges forward and pulls me into a hug. My eyes widen again and I hug him back.
"Luke..." I choke out.
"You're making it hard for me to breathe."
He lets go of me and we sit there face to face. Luke speaks, "Are you up for an adventure?"
