You Again || Luke Hemmings

I'm Charlie. I live in Sydney, Australia with my mom. My best friend is Luke Hemmings. Well, you can say ex-best friend. He left Australia to go on tour about three years ago and never spoke to me again. But I'm okay with that, somewhat. He has his own life now, without me in it. This has always been Luke's dream, to become known to the world. I didn't want him to leave because I loved him, but I guess he didn't have the same way.

15. Chapter 15

Charlie's POV:

Michael runs over to me carrying three boxes of pizza, Calum carrying plates and cups, and Ashton carrying two liters of soda.

"Finally, took you long enough," I say, pretending to sound annoyed. "You guys had to leave me alone with those 2 lovebirds."

Ashton giggles like a girl and Calum laughs at him. "Your fault for not coming with us. Now, I'm going to get some wood for the fire. Ashton, help me?" Michael asks, leaving his stuff on the ground.

"Sure."

Ashton follows Michael, leaving Calum and I alone.

"So, did anything happen while we were gone?" Calum asks, wiggling his eyebrows.

I roll my eyes and reply casually, "Yeah, just Luke and Aleisha making out and Luke talking to me, somewhat."

"What did he say?"

"How I'm acting different around him. I didn't know how to respond, so he just stormed off."

"Darn."

"Yup."

Everyone sits in a circle while Calum and I pass out soda and pizza. I see Luke walking towards us in the distance with Aleisha holding his hand. Why did he pick her? She doesn't deserve him. I stay motionless, watching them until Michael says, "Charlie, you need to stop staring at them. Luke's going to get suspicious."

"What if I don't care if he knows that I like him, Michael?" Frustration finally takes over me. I was afraid. I didn't want to stop being friends with Luke. Once the truth comes out, will he act differently towards me? What if he hates me? He seemed mad and upset after we talked.

"Charlie, calm down," Michael says, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"I can't," I sigh, shrugging his hand off. "I don't think I want to go through this whole plan anymore."

I can't have an emotional breakdown right now. Now is not the time. I say in a quiet voice, "Sorry, Michael. Let's just forget about this whole thing. This plan wasn't going to work anyway."

Calum, Ashton, and Michael stay quiet after Luke and Aleisha join us. So do I. I continue to serve everyone and try to avoid Luke's eye when I give him his soda. Things were awkward since our "talk". We all sit around the fire and eat. By the time I finish my first pizza, the boys are on their thirds.

"Wow, I forgot how much you guys can eat," I say, trying to break the silence.

"Yup," Michael grins widely, bits of pizza falling out of his mouth

We finish eat in silence. Ashton leaves to get the marshmallows from the car, but I think he just wanted to get away from the awkward silence. I pour some more soda in my cup, sipping it every five seconds just so I had something to do. I sense a presence behind me but ignore it, but soon regret it afterwards.

"Omg look at that dolphin!" Aleisha shouts. Suddenly, I feel something cold spill on my head. An object -I'm guessing a cup- bounces off my head and lands next to my feet. I turn around and see a smirk across Aleisha face.

"Oh wait, it was just a wave. My bad," she replies innocently and tries to muffle her laughs.

"What the hell Aleisha, you did that on purpose!" Michael growls, standing up.

"Why did you do that?" Calum shouts.

I stand up angrily, my fists balled up by my sides. I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. But what I really wanted, was to punch her in the face.

"Lukey, tell them to stop being so mean," she cries, giving him puppy dog eyes.

"Don't you ever stop talking," I mumble, but loud enough so she heard me.

"What, did you say?" She gives me look of anger and surprise, not expecting me to speak up.

"Shut up, you know what I said. You've been rude to me for no reason and I'm tired of it."

Calum and Michael stare at me with shocked looks on their faces.

"Lukey, tell your bitch of a friend to shut up," she says rudely, shooting him a look.

Luke stares at us with wide eyes but stays quiet. I scoff at him.

"Luke," she sternly says.

He sighs, then looks at me. Luke says in a harsh voice, "Just drop it, Charlie. Don't talk to my girlfriend like that. What kind of friend does that? "

My heart begins to pound faster and my face grew hotter and hotter. It hurt to hear him say that. It hurt to hear him stand up to his "girlfriend". I doubt he even likes her. I know Luke. He wouldn't date someone like this, but I guess people change.

"What kind of friend am I?" I say in disbelief, scoffing afterwards.

"I can't believe you, Luke. I thought you were still the same person you were before, but I guess I was wrong. You leaving all those years ago was probably the worse thing that has happened since my dad's death. It was so hard for me to let you go and every single day without my best friend was hell. When I found out you and the boys were coming back home, I was so scared. I was hoping things could go back to normal like before, but I was wrong, again. If this is the new Luke, then I don't want to know you."

I didn't mean to say all of that, but it just sort of spilled out. It felt good to finally say what I wanted to say ever since Luke went on tour. I felt relieved, like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Luke's hard expression seems to soften. Calum and Michael were glaring at Luke and Aleisha was glaring at me. Ashton finally decides to come back with the bag of marshmallows.

"Who wants to do the chubby bunny challenge?" he says happily.

Ashton waits for an answer, but no one responds. He says, "What happened? I'm gone for about 2 minutes and then boom! Stuff has happened."

Aleisha, who seemed content with what Luke had said, spoke, "Come on Lukey, let's get away from these losers."

She pulls Luke up from the ground, but he wouldn't budge.

"Luke, come on," she forces a smile onto her face as she kept tugging on his hand. Luke suddenly stands up, but doesn't follow Aleisha. Instead, he picks up Calum's guitar which was laying on the ground.

"This one is for you Aleisha," he says.

Wait, is he really going to sing to her, after everything that has happened? I couldn't hold back the tears anymore. I let them fall, like how my hopes have fallen.
