They Said it'd be Fun

16 year old Paige Harpman has always loved where she lives. Her small town life has been enough for her and she doesn't need anything else. When she finds out her family is moving to one of the largest cities in the world, Los Angeles, she's more than a little upset. Having to leave her friends behind is the hardest thing she has to do and who knows if she's going to make friends at her new school.

P.S. For the sake of this story David Beckham is still playing soccer for the L.A. Galaxy

1. We're Moving?

"SCORE! YES!" I shout standing up from my seat. I open my eyes and see that every eye is on me. I see my history teacher standing at the front of the room looking rather pissed. "Ms. Paige it's good to see you so excited about the Civil War but the death of hundreds of people isn't really something to celebrate." Snickers and laughs are heard through out the room as I slump back down in my chair mumbling an apology.

The rest of class goes the same way, my teacher dragging on about the Civil War while I try my best to focus on taking notes. I mean it's only the third day of school and we are already taking notes. This year is gong to be a long one.

When the bell finally sounds I gather my books and walk out the door, only to be greeted by my two best friends Owen and Kelly. I've known them my entire life and we've been best friends since the first day of kindergarten. "Hey guys." I say breaking the silence. "Hey, can you believe we are finally sophomores!" Kelly says with clear excitement in her voice. "I know right it's so surreal." Owen joins the conversation as we take a right turn walking to the busses. We say our goodbyes and all get on our separate busses. Once I find a seat I plug in my headphones and lay my head back, letting the music consume me.

When I make it back home the first thing I do is go online to check the score of the L.A. Galaxy game, since my lovely history teacher had to ruin it. Yes, L.A. won 3-2 with that amazing goal by Beckham that I fortunately got to see before I got drawn back into the history lesson. Man is there anything that man can't do? I mean David Beckham, great soccer player, great dad, and absolutely gorgeous. My friends find it funny that I have a slight obsession with him but it's nothing unhealthy. It's not like I know his blood type or anything.

"Paige!" I hear my name being shouted from downstairs. I slide off my bed and walk to the stairs.

"Yes!" I shout back, mostly because I'm to lazy to walk down stairs. "Please come down stairs." The shouting has ended and my mom has gone back to her normal voice. Sighing, I descend the stairs and walk to the kitchen to see my mom and dad in the kitchen. "Dad? What are you doing home from work?" I take a seat on the closest chair and pull my legs up to my chest.

"Well honey dad has some very exciting news." My mom says sitting next to me and reaching out to take my hand. She only does this when she has bad news.

"Ok?" I look at my dad waiting to hear this "exciting news."

"Well my boss pulled me into his office and told me that he is looking for a president at his L.A. office and he's offered me the job." They both look at me gauging my reaction I suppose but all I do is stare back at them. "And I've accepted." The realization of his words finally hit me and I shake my head looking back up at them. "WHAT! We're moving to L.A?" I stand up and throw my hands in the air. "Honey please calm down it's going to be ok." My mom grabs my hand again but I shake her off and walk upstairs.

"It's ok she'll get used to the idea." I hear my mom say to my dad before I slam my bedroom door closed.

The next day at school I can't seem to focus on anything as my mind wraps around the idea of actually moving. The final bell rings and I gather my books and wait for Owen and Kelly to meet me at my locker, like they've done for the last 4 years. I've been avoiding them all day until I found a way to tell them the terrible news. I see Kelly's blond pony tail bouncing as she walks down the hallway. Just as expected Owen is in suit next to her. He's wearing a blue button down and black jeans. A smile makes it's way to my lips as I remember buying that shirt for him. He still looks as cute as ever in it.

"Hey girl." Kelly hooks my arm with hers and we make our way down the hall. "So I was thinking this Saturday we could all hang out. You know laser tagging and a movie. Just like old times." Kelly says excitedly. When we were kids every Saturday we would go laser tagging and go back to Owen's to watch a movie. We did this all the way until middle school. "Yea it's been so long since we've done that." Owen says looking at me for my answer. Him smiling down at me is making this so much harder. I leave Sunday so that really will be our last hooray.

I stop moving and pull my arm from Kelly. They both turn to look at me probably wondering about my sudden change in attitude. "I have to tell you guys something." With out my permission tears start to fall down my cheeks. Owen takes a step closer and wraps me in a hug. The smell of his cologne fills my nostrils and I bury my head in his chest. Owen and I have always been closer than Kelly and him and that could be for the fact I've had a crush on him since we were 10.

I pull back from the hug and wipe my tears with my sleeve. "My dad he uh... he got a job in L.A. and we... we leave Sunday." I look at the floor not wanting to see the pained looks on their faces. It stays silent for a few minutes before Kelly throws her arms around me crying into my shoulder. "What? You're, you're moving?" I nod my head and hug her tighter since I doubt she minds. Owen stands their awkwardly during our embrace and I pull his arm over so he joins us. Who cares who sees us, all I want is my friends with me.

When we finally pull away tears are still coming down all our faces, well minus Owen because you know guys don't cry. I can see however his eyes are getting misty and I pull him into a hug. His arms instantly go around my waist and I bury my head into his neck. "Shh it's ok. Everything will be ok." I cry harder at his soothing words until it's time we have to go or we'll miss the bus.

So what you guys think? I know nothing obviously happened but I just loved how close this group of friends are. I wish I had really close friends like this, it's just so cute. Tell me who you guys picture as the main characters. I honestly have no idea. I kind of picture people from my school but I want to know what you guys think. Feel free to follow me on Twitter for updates or just want to know what I'm up too.
