They Said it'd be Fun

16 year old Paige Harpman has always loved where she lives. Her small town life has been enough for her and she doesn't need anything else. When she finds out her family is moving to one of the largest cities in the world, Los Angeles, she's more than a little upset. Having to leave her friends behind is the hardest thing she has to do and who knows if she's going to make friends at her new school. P.S. For the sake of this story David Beckham is still playing soccer for the L.A. Galaxy

3. It's only the beginning

The six hour flight felt like it took a century. My phone died two hours ago so I was forced to either read a book or sleep. I don't mind reading, but for two hours straight? Yea, not a fan. My dad instructs me to grab my carry on and I do just that following him out the door. We go straight to baggage claim and luckily we don't have to wait to long before we spot our bags. I grab my plain black suitcase with my name on the tag and walk behind my parents as they whistle a taxi over. The driver gets out and helps put our bags in the trunk while my mom and I climb in the backseat. My dad sides up front and gives the man the address.

Half an hour later we pull up to the driveway of a massive house. Well massive in my standards, it's definitely smaller than the other houses in the neighborhood. At least the street is pretty much identical to my one back home. Each house has their own yard with houses on both sides of the street. So it's pretty much like your typical neighborhood you'd find in a suburb.

My dad pays the driver and we grab our suitcases and walk up the front steps to the door. My mom pulls out the key and when the door opens my jaw drops to the floor. "What do you think? Pretty great huh?" My mom says as I walk around taking everything in. It's huge! "Yea it's amazing." I turn around and see my mom and dad smiling at each other. "I still miss home." I say coldly and grab my bag storming up the stairs. Ok I know it was harsh but they can't think this whole thing is ok with me just because we have a fancy new house, that I still have no idea how we are affording. I plug in my phone and wait until it turns back on before scrolling to Owen's number and pressing call.

He picks up on the 3rd ring and just hearing his voice almost brings me to tears. "Hi." I whisper and I swear I can hear him smile through the phone when he says hi back. "I miss you. You should see my house it's huge." I say trying not to sound to excited by the house. "Really? Well that's cool I guess. And I miss you too." I smile at his words and I think I've finally worked up enough courage to ask him what's been bugging me since it happened.

"Can I ask you something?" You can hear the nervousness in my voice.

"Sure anything."

I take a deep breath and let it out. "Why did you kiss me?" The other end is silent for a few moments before Owen decides to speak. "Well I've wanted to do it for a while and since you were moving I guessed it was now or never." I smile at how he says that he's wanted to do it for a while. "But Paige, I don't want that kiss and my feelings for you to stop you from having fun. You deserve it and I want you to have the best life you can. If in a couple years when we're both in college we find each other I'll be over joyed and then we can start fresh. But for now just forget about me as anything other than your best friend." I have tears in my eyes when he finishes and it takes him asking if I'm still there before I respond. "Why does it feel like you're breaking up with me when we aren't even dating?" I laugh lightly but the tears are still falling. "Hey you are going to have an amazing time in L.A. and who knows maybe next summer I can raise enough money to come visit." I nod forgetting he can't see me, "Yea that'd be awesome."

We talk for a little while later before we say our goodbyes and hang up. I put my phone down next to my bed, grateful that the movers got here before us and put our furniture down for us. I check the time and see it's already 10 and decide I better go to bed since tomorrow's my first day at my new school.

-----

I wake up at 6:30 and jump in the shower after picking out my clothes for the day. Since it's my first da I might as well look nice. After my shower I run a brush through my hair and blow dry it completely dry. My straight brunette hair hangs just past my boobs being just the right length for me. I slip on my black shorts and pull my blue strapless shirt over my head. I have a grey jacket to go with it and grey heels (outfit on side). This is the complete opposite of how I usually dress and I kind of like it. I guess my parents felt guilty about the move so they agreed to take me on a little shopping spree.

I go downstairs to find my mom and dad sitting at the table eating pancakes. "Good morning sweetie, there's plenty here." My mom says cheerfully and I just shake my head and grab an apple. "I'm good." I grab my backpack and head out the door to wait for the bus. I hate taking the bus.

It shows up ten minutes later and I take a seat near the front since it was one of the only ones available. Everyone seems to stare at me and it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. I look out the window as we take off and don't look away until I hear someone speak up. "You mind if I sit here?" I turn my head to find a very attractive guy staring down at me and I shake my head not being able to find the words. He sits down and I continue to just look at him.

"You new?" He asks giving me a very friendly smile. "Yea I got here yesterday." I smile back and he nods his head before sticking out his hand for me to shake. "I'm Brooklyn." I return the gesture and introduce myself.

The rest of the ride is pretty nice, Brooklyn asks me a few more questions and I learn a little about him as well. He moved here from England when his dad's job got moved just like mine. He doesn't have much of a British accent though and he told me none of his siblings do but his parents still have theirs. When we reach the school I feel like I know a lot about him for just meeting ten minutes ago.

We get out and I take a look around not really sure where to go. "You probably need to go to the main office. It's over there." He points in the direction of the office and I thank him before walking the way he pointed. A middle aged lady greets me and asks for my name and to have a seat.

A man comes out next and escorts me to his office and instructs me to have a seat. "Hello I'm Mr. Moulin's and I'm the principal here at PHS. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know if you have any problems to feel free to come into my office at any time." I say thank you and walk out after grabbing my schedule. When I reach the hallway it is completely deserted. I guess the bell already rang. I look at what I have first period and see that it's U.S. History 2. I take a deep breath before walking down the hallway to find my classroom.
