"Mom-" Ashley said before she cut her off.
"Who are you?" Her mom asked looking at me.
"I'm Luke-" I tried.
"This is the boy who nearly killed you? Ashley!" Her dad yelled.
"Should I-" I said pointing to the door.
"Mom, why are you being so rude?" Ashley said.
"Maybe you should tell me before you invite your boyfriend over!! I didn't even know you had a boyfriend!" Her mom yelled.
"Maybe you should take the time to actually pay attention to my life!" Ashley yelled.
They were all yelling and arguing. And I just wanted to pipe in and say something but I didn't know what to say.
"How do you even know he loves you!" Her dad yelled.
"Dad!!" Ashley yelled.
"I love her," I said and everything got quiet.
"Maybe you should go," her mom said and I looked at Ashley. She had water in her eyes and looked like she was about to cry. I felt horrible.
"I'm sorry," I said and left. I stood by the door and heard yelling. I turned to face the street only to realize I have no ride home. Calum left, my car's in the shop, and I was supposed to ride home with Ashley. I began walking. My house really isn't that far away.
I got home to a locked door. My parents aren't home then. I unlocked the door and walked upstairs to my room. I sat on my bed and stared at my hands. I need to get everything off my mind. I decided to get some rest and fell asleep. 5:09
Beep, beep. Beep, beep. 8:54
I woke up to my phone vibrating in my pocket. It was already 8:54. I had missed calls and texts from Calum. What was so important on a Sunday night?
"Luke we can't find Ashley"
"Hope and I are going to her house to see what's going on"
"Luke she ran away"
"Luke she's gone"
I sat and stared at the last text. She's not gone. She'll be back. I felt a tear roll down my face and quickly wiped it away. I got up and grabbed my jacket and some gloves. It's cold outside and Ashley's probably freezing. I dialed Calum's number and he almost instantly answered.
Calum, what's going on
Ashley she-she's gone
I'm over at her house, I'll come pick you up and we can figure things out
Are you at your house?
Okay I'll be there in a sec
K thanks Cal
I went outside and waited.
Calum's car pulled up and I got in the passengers seat. The ride was silent. We got to Ashley's house and I got out and opened the door. Everyone looked up with tear- stained faces. Her mom, dad, and Hope we're sitting on the couch. I walked in, a tear forming in my eye.
"What happened?" I said quietly.
"After you left, I-I-I told her she wasn't allowed to be with you. Young love leads to heartbreak." Her mom said.
"Then, she said that we ruin her life and that she's old enough to make her own decisions," her dad said.
"She screamed and ran up to her room and slammed the door. We figured we'd give her some time to cool off before supper. But two hours later, when I called for supper, no one came down." Her mom said with a tear rolling down her face.
"We went up to her room and opened the door to see her window open," her dad said.
"We have to go find her," I said.
"There's no use," Hope said with a sniffle, "we've searched everywhere."
I looked at everyone and then at Calum. Calum nodded and tossed me his car keys.
"Find her," he said.
"I will," I responded and left the house.
I got in Calum's car and began driving to places I didn't even know existed. I drove and drove and got out and looked and then kept driving.
I ended up sitting in Calum's car, tears rolling down my face.
I can't find her. She's gone. I'll never see her again.
I began telling myself this and cried even more. I got frustrated with myself and started driving. I drove to the park and sat on a swing set. I took out my phone to see that it was 11:47. I sat that staring at the ground when I heard sniffles.
"A-Ashley?" I asked.
"Ashley is that you?" I said a little louder.
"Luke, go home," I heard. I sighed with relief.
"Why do you want me to go home?" I asked getting off the swing set.
"Because I hate you," she said.
"You hate me? Why is that?" I asked trying to get her talk so I could track her by her voice.
"B-Because," she said as I crawled into a tunnel quietly.
"Because why?" I asked her. Now I could see her back. She was facing the wall of the tunnel.
"B-Because-," I cut her off by wrapping my arms around her and whispering in her ear, "I'm never loosing you like that again," I said while kissing her on the cheek.
"No! No, no, no," she said releasing from my arms and crawling out the tunnel the opposite direction. I followed her and ended up out of the tunnel. She was walking toward the woods when she turned around and saw me following her. She had makeup and tears running down her face. She started in a run into the woods and I ran after her. I caught up with her and grabbed her arm to pull her towards me. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her in tight. She wrapped her arms around my waist and started crying.
"It's okay. I'm right here. It's okay." I said calming her down.
"I'm sorry... I love you.... I'm sorry," she said between sniffles.
"Shhhh it's okay," I said while running my hand through her hair.
She stopped crying and we were just standing there in each other's arms.
"I won't let anything get between us, ever," I said to her.
"I love you," she said.
"I love you too," I said while placing a kiss on her lips.
I picked her up bridal style and took her to Calum's car. I set her down in the passengers seat the. I went to the drivers seat and began driving. I looked over at her and smiled at her sleeping figure. I arrived at her house and picked her up bridal style again. I opened the door and everyone stood up.
"What did you do to her?!?!" Her mom practically screamed waking Ashley up.
"I-I- didn't do anything. She was sleeping." I said innocently.
"He found me," Ashley said.
"Put her down!" Her mom yelled.
I put her down and her mom took Ashley away from me.
"Go!" Her mom said.
"Mom!!" Ashley said crying.
"Mom, if it wasn't for Luke, I wouldn't even be here." Ashley yelled.
"If he goes, I'm going with him," Ashley said.
"Go," her mom said quietly. I tossed Calum the car keys and left with water in my eyes. I walked across the street and heard a door slam.
"Wait!" I looked back to see Ashley running toward me.
"What are you-" I was cut off when her lips smashed mine. I kissed for a minute then pushed her off.
"What are you doing? Your gonna get murdered by your parents!" I said giggling.
"Who cares!" She said giggling.
"Your so stupid I love it," I said pecking her lips.
I grabbed her hand and we ran to my house. There were lights on a car parked in the driveway. My parents were home.
I looked at Ashley and her eyes had water in them. I cupped her face and wiped her cheek.
"It's okay. My parents know about you," I said and she sighed with relief. I opened the door and my parents were sitting in the kitchen.
"Mom, dad, this is Ashley and she's staying the night because she is having family problems and we'll be in my room," I said quickly and grabbed Ashley's hand to take her upstairs. I opened my bedroom door and closed it behind us.
"Well," I said sitting on my bed. "This is my room."
"Luke I think you forgot that I've been on here before," She giggled and looked around. She giggled even more when she noticed the pair of blue boxers laying on the ground. My face got hot with embarrassment.
"Hey Ashley?" It's almost 1:00, do you want to get some rest?" I asked.
"Ya, we kind of have school tomorrow..." She said.
"Oh my gosh!!! I totally forgot!" I said while crawling into bed. Ashley crawled into bed right next to me. I dimmed my lamp all the way so it was pitch black. I felt Ashley move.
"L-Luke, I'm afraid of the dark," she said curling into me.
"It's alright. I'll protect you," I said wrapping my arms around her, "I promise."
